After reading Falon Ballard's first book Lease on Love, I knew that I was going to love anything she writes. And reading Just My Type solidified this for me. I ADORED this book. I read it in a DAY. I could not put my kindle down. The characters of Lana and Seth are so real and flawed. I completely bought into their story and history together. I'm a sucker for friends to lovers (or in this case, friends to lovers to enemies to lovers - that's a mouthful) and this story just melted my heart. I cannot wait to buy a physical copy!!
I guess my one critique is that it was just frustrating that Lana and Seth went through a lot of miscommunication that could have been resolved if they had just talked it out. However, its not something that took me out of the story at all.
I requested this book so I would have something to read throughout the week when my daughter was at dance, as it doesn't make sense to drive back and forth. What a joke that idea was! I could not put this down. It was SO good, I finished in one evening.
I absolutely love that while yes, this is a romance, it was so much more than that. It was the story of Lana working to find herself. An unexpected break-up (been there done that), adventures, camaraderie, self-discovery, humor. It's really got it all. The friendships in this book are top notch-I'd love to surround myself with them. They are kind and caring, but push Lana out of her comfort zone, and the outcome is just perfect. The characters are so well written, and I really feel like I got to know them The pop culture references sprinkled throughout the story just made this!
Absolutely would recommend-100%! I'll definitely be on the lookout for more from this author.
This was super cute! I loved the tension and build up and the angst. The side characters of Lana’s friends were amazing. They were so funny and each character had such distinct and interesting voices. I really loved their dynamic and banter. Lana’s relationship with her mother and the way she learned to just accept who she is rather than being angry about who she isn’t really struck a nerve with me and I loved that aspect. It was very relatable. The only reason I gave a 4 stars is because I felt like the ending was rushed and I wanted a little more from it, but other than that, it was a very solid read and I’m looking forward to more from this author!
Just My Type is an office romance with enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, second chance love, and fun throw back references to some of my favorite 80s/90s romcoms. It reminds me a lot of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (which was actually referenced in the book at one point). Lana is a writer and her high school sweetheart comes traipsing into town to (what appears to) steal her job. He’s got cinnamon roll, golden retriever energy, and she is a hot mess. So, of course I loved it!
I really liked the MCU references throughout. Can’t go wrong with bringing up my boy, Loki!
Spice wise - there’s only 2ish chapters with on-page spice. Otherwise it is steamy and there’s a lot of built up energy between them. If you’re comfortable with The Love Hypothesis level spice, you’ll be good to go with this one.
The book comes out in February, and would be the perfect book to have on hand for Valentines Day, whether you are paired up or not. It’s currently available for pre-order, and you can bet I’ll be grabbing the paperback for my trophy shelf and my reread!
This book had me hooked at the first sentence!
Picture Elle Woods from Legally Blonde movie getting dumped on the night she was going to get engaged. Then combine that with the movie How too lose a guy in 10 days. Other words to describe this book it's funny, sexy, loving, emotional, a second chance romance and very entertaining. Seriously, it was so good I couldn't stop reading it. I can't wait to read more of Falon Ballard's books!

This book was amazing! I loved the authors book, Lease on Love, so I was only expecting good things from this book and I was definitely beyond impressed. I loved the "enemies to lovers" banter, and even though I technically don’t like second chance romances because they leave me stressed and conflicted, this book wasn’t as conflicting to me. Although I will say because of the nature of second chance trope the female character was unreasonable at times and incapable of seeing the MMC’s perspective. If you like second chance romance then this is the perfect adult romance for you (it almost borders on a rom com because of the banter)
Lana and Seth!! Two writers bantering for a workplace competition, but don’t forget they are also childhood sweethearts who had a heart breaking falling out.
Let me start by saying I really enjoyed this and bonus points for how convincing these characters were because I didn’t like them at the start of this story.
The first few chapters I just wasn’t feeling it I didn’t feel that their estranged relationship made sense or see the connection. But soon after I was falling into their banter and the back and forth of these two ex childhood sweethearts. Their familiarity with each other was so heartwarming. This felt different that the classic second chance romances of usual. But I enjoyed the different take on coming back together.
I only wish there had been more pining from years prior mentioned (hehe i love pining tension) also i wish epilogue was a bit longer so I could get even more between the two of them and where they are going!! BC I LOVE THEM
“I’m the spinning needle of a compass and you’ve always been my true north, Parker.”
Lana and Seth. From being high school sweethearts to breaking up to not having contact for 12 years to competing for the same job. Lana is a serial monogamist and never liked being alone, but she’s been challenged to stay single and learn to live life on her own. Seth is a serial date and has to find a real relationship and settle down. For ten weeks, they have made a list of challenges for each other to complete in order to win a column spot. But what they didn’t expect is having to complete some of the tasks together. Having to spend all that time with each other, the feelings that were buried deep are slowly coming back to the surface.

Fun story that I didn't want to end! I found myself smiling as the story unfolded and it was just that easy to read. It was an easy read that allowed for me to get out of my head and just enjoy the story. Highly recommend..
The writing was a bit dull to keep me engage. The tension was not enough to be believable between Lana & Seth. It felt a bit force, even though they’ve known each other since they were kids. Feel in love as teens and were planning a future together before leaving for college. The text exchange between co-workers/friends was funny and great. Could have been used more to move the story along.
i ADORED this story! Lease on Love was one of my favorite reads of this year so I was thrilled to be able to read the second story from this author. I loved this second chance romance. Seth and Lana's love was so sweet and I'm so happy they finally got their timing right. This second chance, workplace enemies to lovers was exactly what I needed. I loved this story so much!
If you're looking for an easy read that is super cliche, this book is for you. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, it's a good palate cleanser in between those shocking and fast-paced thrillers.
Boy and girl are high school sweethearts, girl goes away to college, boy breaks up with girl. 12 years later boy and girl fight over job, both realize they are both still in love with each other, boy and girl get back together. Pretty simple, again I'm not saying that's a bad thing. The book was very well written and easily consumed, I read this in less than one day.
If you like Emily Henry this one is up your alley

DNF…
Unfortunately I could only get through four chapters of this book before deciding to stop. I did not enjoy reading about any of the characters or where the plot was going. I do not like the idea of people being in relationships or not in relationships because their work told them to do so. I found this to be very strange and possibly hurtful to others.

⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Romantic Comedy
Tropes: Second Chance, Enemies To Lovers, Workplace Romance, Forced Proximity
Release Date: February 7, 2023
Lana and Seth were highschool sweethearts, and 12 years after breakup up, they are brought together again and forced to engage in a very questionable workplace competition to win their own column with The Chronicle.
Following their breakup, Lana became a serial monogamist who couldn't be alone, and Seth became incapable of anything real. The competition forces Lana to embrace being alone and forces Seth to learn how to become boyfriend material and look for something long-term. The two spend 10 weeks writing articles about their experiences, and the winner gets their own column.
As you can imagine, being together again after 12 years brings up a lot of feelings, and the tension of the competition only adds to it.
I love Falon's writing style, especially the banter between the characters. I found myself crying at the end (in a good way) and that doesn't often happen to me.
I love me a good enemies to lovers trope. In this case it is also a second chance romance, since Lana and Seth were high school sweethearts who breakup after high school, but end up seeing each other 10 years later while they are competing for the same journalist position.
Lana is always in a relationship, and Seth is a serial dater. To "win" the new journalist position, Lana must stay single and complete a list of tasks Seth has assigned her. While Seth must become boyfriend material and complete a list of tasks Lana assigns him. Every item on the list is publicized, and the readers can't help but see their chemistry.
Overall it was a cute read and I loved seeing the obvious tension between them, even though sometimes I wanted to scream at them that they obviously still loved each other. I will say the speed dating scene had me melting...It follows the Chick Lit formula and has a cute ending. I am always a sucker for books like this.

The first 35% was hard for me to get into. The female MC felt like a bad knockoff of Alicia Silverstone's character in Clueless - the only thing female MC didn't say was "Ugh! As If!" The beginning seemed to have no substance - only the complaints of a rich girl.
Once the plot got more into the How To Lose A Guy in Ten Days territory the characters developed more fleshed out personalities, the book became more enjoyable, and I read it fairly fast. Unfortunately, it was not able to make up for the first part of the book in terms of final rating.
Tropes: Rivals to Lovers/ Workplace Competition/ Second Chance Romance/ Childhood Sweethearts

My first Falon Ballard book and definitely not the last!
Just my type follows fellow high school sweethearts Seth and Lana. After not seeing each other for nearly 12 years Seth happens to find his way back into Lana’s life…and work place! Together they work on a blog as part of a work competition. Lana needs to be ok with being single and Seth needs to find someone he can settle down with. They make each other to-do lists for the competition that they need to each complete. Seeing Lana’s developmental growth was awesome! Literally rooting for her the entire book. Also Seth was a total babeeeee.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves second chance romance. This book will be available for purchase February 7th, 2023! Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the eARC.
Radiant as a sunflower (be it in the form of a corsage, tattoo, or standing alone in a glass from the kitchen cabinet), Just My Type was equal parts ex’s to lovers, self-realization, and well-rounded story.
Ballard’s characters each stand on their own. I would gladly read a spin-off about anyone in Lana’s corner.
I didn’t care for the coarse language but quickly got over it. The steam level was hot and heavy but shockingly so brief and really spared some details that similar novels would have included.
I don’t really have any major qualms with this one and definitely intend to read anything Ballard puts out into the world. But it also wasn’t mind-blowing or memorable enough to give this a 5 in my book.

Lana Parker has bounced from one long term relationship to the next since she was 14 years old. Shortly after her most recent breakup, Lana's high school ex (Seth) conveniently becomes her newest coworker. When their boss learns of their past, she devises a competition between the two of them. Seth must learn how to be in an actual relationship, and Lana must learn to be single.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought Lana and Seth had excellent chemistry, and there was just the right amount of enemies-to-lovers energy. I also loved the found family aspect with their coworkers and friends. I found myself not wanting to put this one down and will definitely be recommending this one to friends.
I'm marking off 1 star for a couple of reasons. The first is that I wish the author would have given more of an explanation about what happened at the infamous class reunion. It seemed like such a crucial part of their history, but we got very little detail. The second is the use of Marvel character names in the place of the word "god". I was cringing so hard that I genuinely considered putting the book down for good after the second or third time it happened. I love a nerdy main character, but that seemed excessive.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Falon Ballard’s first novel, Lease on Love, was one of my favorites of last year- so I couldn’t wait to dig into this one! Huge thank you to NetGalley and Putnam for my advanced copy.
What worked for me: strong writing, well paced plot development, second chance romance, office rivalry, forced proximity, charming and funny leads
What didn’t work for me: some borderline cringey dialogue
