Set in the South Carolina low country, this is a story about dysfunctional families, broken relationships and tragedy. While I empathized with the father and mentally disabled brother, the two sisters were immature for almost 40 years old, and definitely not like-able.
Filled with angst and drama, this wasn’t one of my favorite books published under this author’s good name. I think it’s time to retire the brand before it is tarnished.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
A beautiful story of coming home and being able to make things right. Very well written. I was hooked from page one. Great character development.
Meet Kit who returns home after 15 years for her mother’s funeral. She returns to her father, brother and twin sister with the goal of reconciling. She runs into her childhood crush, Beau, who is working with her sister. It is a story filled with relatable characters, family bonds, forgiveness and new beginnings. It also provides a look into the oyster business. As always Janet Dailey weaves a believable story with characters you can relate to.
Thank you NatGalley and Kensington Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this beautiful story. The book will be published on November 29, 2022
I will leave a review on Amazon and B&N on Nov 29th.
Hope Creek by Janet Dailey for me was a little hard book to get into. I really didn't connect with any of the characters in the book, although I did have a soft spot for Mackey. Set in South Carolina it centers around the Teague family, struggling to rebuild relationships after the death of the mother. I still would suggest this book to others, because if wasn't a favorite of mind I do realize others will enjoy the book.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for free in exchange for a fair and honest review, the opinion expressed here are my own.
This is a Women's Fiction. I did not love the main character of this book, and I really did not love the setting of this book. I just could not get into this book at all. I really tried, and I have loved all the other books I read by this author. I ended up DNFing this book after reading over half of this book. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
Kit is back home in Hope Creek after her mother death. She left fifteen years ago when things got unbearable for her with her mother illness. She left behind her twin sister, and their friendship was broken forever. Can she rebuild their relationship and have a family again with their father and little brother? She will find more that she imagined, even the love of her life.
It takes a lot of courage for Kit to return home for her mother's funeral. A mother that battled mental illness her whole life. Returning to the father she left behind and her estranged twin sister, she is determined to heal old wounds. Then there is Beau, the man she has loved since she was a girl. Janet Dailey books just pull you into the story. You can relate to the characters and their struggles, and you read faster to see if they succeed. Looking forward to reading the next one in this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for this advanced review copy. In return, I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Hope Creek, is a sad novel about family coming back together after a great tragedy, about two families trying to keep there businesses going and the love that might just make this all possible. I really like reading this book. It was right after Hurricane Ian came through so the hurricane in this book touched a little close to reality.
A light read about the coast of the Carolina's and twins reconciling. This book provides a small look into the oyster business and the importance on the commerce as well as the environment. Kit and Viv are twins that have bad blood between them and a need to be on their own to discover their own worth and identity. The reader gets to witness how each player plays a part in the story and how the past has shaped their present and possibly their future. Kit and Beau explore something that may last a lifetime, but will Kit allow the past and wanting to mend relationships steer her away from him towards something else that means so much to her. This book allows the reader to explore opportunities and mending fences, the importance of bonding as well as exploring adventures. Nicely done and so needed in today's environment.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and Kensington Books, Zebra for this privilege of reading.
Hope Creek by Janet Dailey
This book has so many feelings, dealing with mental illness, suicide, desertion, quilt, redemption, strong family dynamics, friendship, love, laughter and tears all get us to a HEA for Kit, Beau and Kit's twin Viv.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Entertaining Informative Happily Ever After Funny Easy-to-read Wonderful characters Haunting Romantic Page-turner Great world building Tragic Tear-jerker Unpredictable. I enjoyed reading and reviewing this book.
Upon learning of the death of her mother, Sylvie, who battled mental illness for most of her life, Kit Teague returns home after a 15-year absence. Her key won’t fit in any of the locks, and no one is answering the door. She manages to get inside through a window and is confronted by her special needs brother, who is less than welcoming. Kit discovers that her twin sister, Viv, has also moved out. But Viv only moved next door with the neighboring Sutton family. Not only did she move, but she joined in their rival business. And Viv wants nothing to do with Kit.
The two families join forces to prepare for a storm. As they get closer, each family benefits from learning about the old ways of doing business and the new modern ways to accomplish the same tasks. The Teague family goes by the old ways. The Sutton family’s new methods threaten to put the Teague family out of business. Along the way, Kit finds she still has feelings for Beau, who she had a crush on before she moved away. He’s a widow now and has also returned home to Hope Creek to raise his son.
Can Kit bring her family together again and move on from the past? Is there hope for the family business? Is there hope for a new relationship?
A story of family dynamics, new beginnings, healing, and hope. There’s always hope.

I read Hope Creek by Janet Daily and enjoyed the story. Kit Teague comes home after several years to honor her mother’s final wishes. Finding her family divided and her sister working with a fishing competitor, she has to try to pull her family back together if she can. Will she be able too? This is the first book I have read by her.
All words and opinions are my own. I was given a copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.
Kit Teague is returning home to Hope Creek for her mothers funeral. Her mother battled mental illness that drove Kit to leave. Her twin sister felt abandoned by Kit and joined a rival fishing business and abandoned their father and brother. The rival fishing business is owned by Beau Sutton, a guy that Kit once loved from afar. Kit is hoping to start a new life and help her father with his business and rebuild her relationship with Viv. She is still attracted to Beau and hoping that maybe a romance will happen.
Thanks to Janet Dailey and Kensington Books for the book!
This was a bit of an emotional read for me. I did enjoy it, but some parts seemed a bit disjointed from the flow of the rest of the story. However, you can never go wrong with a Janet Dailey book!
Kit returns home after the death of her mother and finds her family is strained, and her ex still causes her heart to flutter. Lots of emotions, family rifts that need to be healed, old hurts that are put to rest, and of course a nice dose of romance. Overall, a good read.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from Kensington Books and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Janet Dailey has another hit on their hands.
I loved this story about Kit and Viv and the way they handled their mother , each in their own way. Kit left Hope Creek and Viv stayed trying to help her mother but that didn't work for her. After the mother dies, Hope came home and see what happened and how it happened.
Janet Dailey brings us the story of the Teague family set in the island of Hope Creek, South Carolina. Kit has come home after leaving behind her family so many years ago and starting over. Once home, she sets herself the task of putting her family back together after the death of her mother. Kit starts to rebuild the broken relationships that were tattered and broken when she left them behind. As she works on them, she is reminded of the boy she once loved from afar who is now a widow with a young son. With their fathers set on a course of rivalry from decades ago and her sister working with them, Kit and her family must forge ahead and either set their differences aside in order to have a future in both love and business, or allow it to keep them apart and at war with each other.
Janet Dailey brings us a story filled with love, disappointment, and family. We get to witness how each player plays a part in the story and how the past has shaped their present and possibly their future. Will Kit and Beau find something that lasts a lifetime, or will Kit allow the past and wanting to mend relationships steer her away from him? Will the rivalry between these two families set them adrift even as opportunities knock at their doors to allow for both to flourish? Ms. Dailey brings us along as the Teague and Sutton families try to make their mark on the island they call home. I look forward to reading more about this family in the future and see what happens to the rest of the family members.

Hope Creek
By Janet Daley
This wonderful book by Janet Daley was an emotional rollercoaster. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started it as Kit Teague returns home to Hope Creek on the Barrier Islands of South Carolina after being away for fifteen years. Her sister isn’t home, her brother who has special needs is cooking, and her father is passed out in his room. She sees all this from the window as she is locked out of her childhood home. Then practically beats down the gate of the nearest neighbor’s home as she searches for her sister (who locked her out), and answers to what happened over the last decade and a half. To add on top of that, her first crush Beau Sutton has returned with his 15-year-old son and even more questions. I wasn’t sure where we would go in this story, but as I continued to read, I found wonderfully imperfect people in both the Teague and Sutton families and their ways of dealing with grief, abandonment, betrayal, and ultimately love.
I was enveloped in the slow and painful way of Kit and her twin Viv back to each other, the acceptance of what happened to their mother and each other, and for Kit, to begin a relationship of her heart. Ms. Daley brought me on a rollercoaster of emotions from anger, frustration, laughter, and love. There is so much emotion to reveal and discuss in this book, I think it would make a great book club read. I’ve received an ARC copy from NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
First note that HOPE CREEK is the first print of a story that is actually a work by the family of Janet Dailey. Unfinished manuscripts, ideas were left when Janet Dailey passed. Her books are published with her name as author, but in reality, it is another story that combines the legacy of Janet Dailey. Fans of Janet Dailey will fully recognize these elements in the ensuring books that continue to be published under the Dailey family trust. And I must say, if HOPE CREEK is an example, then I am looking forward to these new stories. I had been a huge fan and was sad to hear of her passing. I was also aware of her publishing issues. So I was a little surprised when I came across HOPE CREEK to read and review.
HOPE CREEK is grittier and more striking than past books by this very prolific author. Her team did an amazing job regarding character development and relationship building. Dialog is spot on with characters carefully maintaining their integrity. And the scenic work is wonderful.
HOPE CREEK is essentially about oyster farming, both traditional and with more modern ideas. Living in or around HOPE CREEK there are two families whose financial status couldn’t be more different. Their lives are also very different and yet there is an unmistakable connection. And that is the water and the oyster industry.
Beau is a Sutton. Kit is a Teague. You might say they were brought up on different sides of the street. Kit and her family, brother Mackey, sister Viv and dad Royal just suffered the sad and tragic loss of her mother. Kit returned home after a long absence, which is a bone of contention between her and Viv. Their story unfolds with care in HOPE CREEK.
Beau had returned home to HOPE CREEK with his son Cal after the passing of his wife. Along with his father Nate they have enlarged their oyster harvesting business to include masses of cages. Some in the community are not necessarily fond of this new development.
So while we are entertained by the relationship of these two families, we are very aware of trust issues between certain characters.
HOPE CREEK reads like a snappy novel and is a real page turner. You can’t help but get sucked in by these amazing characters and their struggles. The obvious family closeness and devotion is particularly noteworthy. In many instances the story feels extraordinarily read and potent. Again kudos to the folks that penned and obviously researched for this terrific book.
Not sure how many of these manuscripts have been uncovered but if the stories are anything like HOPE CREEK they will be well received. Looking forward to them.
I loved this book. I think I've read nearly every book Janet Dailey has written. It was too good. I'm grateful that netgalley and the publishers let me read this in exchange for an honest review.
