This one felt a little different than the other Chloe Jackson mysteries. We weren’t in the Sea Glass Saloon as much as we were in the previous books, so we weren’t around Vivi and Joaquin and the Heritage owners as much as previously. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it. However, we did get to learn a lot more about Ann and that was interesting. It also provided a good reason for Rip and Chloe to grow closer together. The mystery and the solution were compelling and full of heart. So even though it felt different, it was very well done.

"Rum and Choke" is the fourth book in the Sea Glass Saloon mystery series, The series started strong and just keeps getting better. In this outing, Vivi and Joaquin have entered an unsuspecting Chloe in a barback contest. The competition is stiff - literally, when one of the contestants is killed. He had a connection to Ann, Chloe's friend, who is working on a secret of her own. Ann asks for Chloe's help, but also for her to keep their activities quiet, even from Chloe's boyfriend, Rip.

Chloe somehow juggles her conflicting priorities and risks her relationship with Rip to help Ann, both with Ann's secret mission, and with proving Ann's innocence in the murder of the barback.

The characters are great, their relationships and strong and feel genuine. Chloe has assimilated well into her new home, and it's honestly hard to imagine her prior to her move to Florida. You don't have to have read the first three to enjoy this book, but you'll want to, because the journey Chloe took to get here is enjoyable. Plus, you'll need something to read until the next book comes out (impatiently waiting).

Recommended - 4 out of 5 stars.

I received an advance copy from Kensington via NetGalley, in exchange for my honest review.

Lovely cozy, light on the mystery, but very entertaining!

Chloe, part owner and an employee at a bar along the Florida Panhandle overlooking the Gulf, has been coerced into participating in a local bar competition. The only catch is that several other area bars have hired ringers - a stunt woman, a former Olympians, and a professional athlete - to compete for their bars. Thus, Chloe is sent out to scope out the competition.

Her friend Ann has requested that Chloe join to guard the boat while Ann goes on a diving expedition for a lost shipwreck (and potential treasure). However, instead of finding a historic boat, Ann finds the body of one of the ringers. Because Ann and Chloe are mum about their true reason for being there, they become suspects, causing Chloe to get involved in figuring out who dunnit.

This book was recommended to me by a friend of a friend, and maybe I’ve just read too many bad books recently, but I loved it! I liked how the plot and subplots neatly meshed together - Chloe meeting the victim and a bunch of suspects because of the competition; Chloe helping discover the body because of helping a friend. The characters were fun as well. And I really, really appreciated the fact that Chloe actually figured out the guilty party using logic, not by accident because the individual came after her.

Highly recommend. I’m adding the previous books to my TBR list.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley.com and voluntarily chose to review.

Love following the adventures of Chloe. She has interesting friends. Her job became more entertaining than normal via interviewing prospective employees and the contest. A delightful page turner. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

This is such an enjoyable series! Each book can be read as a standalone, but as with most series, the reading experience is so much richer when you start at the series beginning. This is one of those series where you may have started reading because you found the blurb interesting, but you keep coming back for the characters. The characters are well developed and interesting. The relationships keep evolving and the small town beach setting is very enjoyable. The mystery is well done. In this installment we get a little treasure hunting along with the murder investigation. Another entertaining addition to this series!

This is such a fun series set in the Florida Panhandle with the emerald waters and sugar sands, where the tourists love to flock, and the locals are a close community. Chloe Jackson, part owner of the Sea Glass Saloon is going to be in the local barback competition, and she has some tough competitors. When one is found dead by Chloe and friend, Ann, who was diving in the spot, it is very suspicious. How did they manage to find a body where Ann was diving and actually found the body where she is looking for a family treasure? This is another great addition to the series with Chloe and Ann working together with Ann's employee/bodyguard/friend Dex to find answers. Emerald Cove is a great setting with great characters, the Sea Glass crew along with the local business owners and not to forget Kip, Chloe's hunky boyfriend. This mystery has a twist that I really didn't see coming. Recommended for cozy mystery lovers who enjoy a beach setting. I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review from Kensington Books and NetGalley. All thoughts are mine only.

Chloe isn't thrilled that Vivi signed her up to represent the Sea Glass Saloon in the Barback Games, especially when it becomes apparent that other bars have engaged ringers, but hey, she's up for the challenge. She's also game to help her mysterious friend Ann search for sunken treasure but that turns up something else-the body of one of the other competitors. Of course, Chloe's going to investigate, especially since the two of them are in the crosshairs. It's classic cozy in that sense but I enjoy this series as much for the characters as for the mysteries. Here we learn a bit more (but not a lot) about Anne, see Chloe's relationship with Ret grow, and just enjoy the dynamics between Chloe and Vivi. There does seem to be a lot of characters at the start but it evens out. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. Don't worry if you haven't read the earlier books-this one with its delightful Florida setting- will be fine as a standalone.

When Chloe's friend asks for help while looking for treasure, they both end up suspects in Emerald Cove's latest murder. Therefore, Chloe soon finds herself in some risky situations as she tries to find the actual murderer and walks a fine line between being honest with her boyfriend and keeping her word.

There is a budding friendship, a hot romance, a mystery with adventure, and a surprise ending in this story. Everything I enjoy about cozy mysteries is rolled into this one entertaining story. Thanks to Kensington and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.

This is the 4th book in the Sea Glass Saloon series. I love these books. The characters are great and the writing draws you in and makes you want to keep reading and not put the book down! In the previous three books we have learned a lot about Chloe and her history, but Ann has always remained mysterious. This was a deep dive in to Ann's background and she was much more involved in this book.

Chloe is training for a barback competition, where she has to do all kinds of physical activities that are related to being a bartender. As part of her training, Chloe does recon by checking out the competition at the other bars. While all of this is going on, Ann asks her to come along on a pirate treasure hunt and Chloe just can't say no! When one of the barback competitors dies, Chloe can't help be wonder if it's tied to Ann's treasure hunting expedition.

I really enjoyed learning more about Ann and seeing Chloe's relationships grow.

Chloe Jackson has been in Emerald Cove, Fl. for ten months and is feeling really at home. Her partner and her co-worker tell Chloe that they have entered her into the Barback Games that is coming up. While training for this, her friend Ann asks Chloe to help her locate a possible treasure from a map she has of a treasure of pirate Jean Lafitte. What they find is a dead body, who was a ringer for the Barback games.

I loved this book! It was a fun and light mystery/adventure with heart and felt very “Florida-y” which I really enjoyed. I had never read the previous Chloe books but now cannot wait to dove in and see what she was up to before this one. It’s a quick read that kept me engaged from beginning to end

Rum and Choke by Sherry Harris is book #4 in the Chloe Jackson Sea Glass Saloon series. It's a treasure hunt! "Fixer" Ann Williams, descendant of the pirate Jean Lafitte, approaches Chloe Jackson, part-owner of the Sea Glass Saloon and interests her in going along while Ann does a dive searching for one of her ancestor's sunken ships. Possible treasure still aboard. Chloe also agrees to represent the Sea Glass Saloon in the annual Florida Panhandle Barback Games. Along the way a body is discovered and Chloe goes looking for clues. I really enjoyed this whodunit. It sure kept me guessing. I also enjoyed reading about the progress of Chloe's relationship with Rip Barnett. This was a fun cozy mystery to read and I look forward to what happens in the next book.

Chloe is drawn into another situation by her loyal, yet inventive, workmates. But really, how much trouble can she get into by spying out the competition for a barback games and obstacle course at the other bars? Unquestionably more than she bargained for. The fourth in Sherry Harris' Sea Glass Saloon Mystery series, Rum and Choke does not disappoint in any way!
Chloe is back with the characters I love --plus--a deeper dive into Ann and what makes her tic. I enjoyed learning more about her, and the shipwreck. The pace is steady, with some misdirection, twists, and suspense. I love this series and am anxiously awaiting the next installment.

A Chloe Jackson Sea Glass Saloon Mystery #4

Chloe is back and has been elected to represent them in the Florida Panhandle Barback Games. How in the world do they expect her to do obstacle courses with drinks? It is not an easy course, concluding with rolling a keg up a hill. Some of the other competitors have brought in professionals to win.

At the same time Cloes’ friend, Anne, enlists her help with some old papers she has found that may show the exact location of a pirate treasure. Unless you call a dead body a treasure, however, there isn’t much going on.

With murder in the town, Chloe has more than one job and she needs to figure out quickly who took the friendly competition to a new level.

We are at the fourth mystery now and I have to say, I’m in it now!

Chloe Jackson’s business partners draft her to enter the Florida Panhandle Barback Games, pulling her in one direction while her friend Ann enlists her assistance in a treasure hunt. Working at the Sea Glass Saloon, training for the barback competition, and joining Ann in her search for ancestor and pirate Jean Lafitte’s famed treasure, Chloe finds the mental and physical exercise challenging.

When one of the chief barback competitors is found murdered, Chloe begins investigating. Then someone steals information about Ann’s search, so Chloe’s sleuthing expands to uncover their competition to locate the treasure.

Sherry Harris combines two elaborate and complex mysteries in this 4th novel featuring the Sea Glass Saloon. Chloe finds the mysteries challenging, and the author offers red herrings and twists at a steady pace.
