I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Easy to read, very little text picture book about feelings and how people can be two things at once.

A sweet and beautifully illustrated exploration of the complexity of emotions. A great introduction to emotional intelligence and identifying different emotions, even when we might be feeling more than one at a time! A great concept executed well.

Truly such a precious little book with wonderful illustrations. The cover art welcomes readers from all walks of life & the story held inside allows a reader to connect with the hopes they hold dearly.

This book explores a variety of personality traits and how we can be opposite or conflicting in our actions and feelings at the same time. While the text is simple, the illustrations help expand upon the feelings/traits depicted and can be used to inspired deeper and more meaningful conversations.

This would be a great conversation-starter for kids becoming aware of complex, sometimes conflicting feelings. It gently illustrates a lot of ways we can experience seemingly opposite things (brave AND afraid, excited AND nervous, etc.) at the same time. The pictures are soft, calm, and simple, but support the text and show lots of different kids so that many readers can see themselves on the page. This would go a long way in helping kids discuss and make sense of what they're feeling.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

Thank you NetGalley and Kids Can Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.

A person can be many different things. Sometimes they can be two different things at the same time. This is the perfect book to demonstrate that.

My favorite one is “full and hungry.” Because a person can be full after just eating lunch or dinner and then they see the dessert menu and be so hungry!

The illustrations were so adorable.

Great book!

A lovely book about the juxtapositions of feelings and circumstances that define the human experience. Simple and profound this book holds teaching and caring in equal measure.

This book offers children a perspective that they may not have fully developed. It is sweetly illustrated and shows a number of dualities that a child may experience. A few examples…Busy and Bored, Homesick and Adventurous, or Brave and Afraid. Looking at this book with an adult may well open up some good conversation with a child you know.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Kids Can press. All opinions are my own.

I loved this beautiful childrens book! It affirms for young children that we can all be two (or more) things at the same time. You can be naughty and nice, they aren't mutually exclusive. This is such an important lesson for kids to head early and often, one wrong choice does not make them a bad person! Everyone can be more than one quality at the same time. Such a sweet and simple message.

Thanks to NetGalley and Kids Can Press for letting me view this ebook!

I think as many adults could have their life changed by this book as could kids. This premise was ingenius and so important, with the perfect pop of slightly nostalgic, gentle illustrations that didn't overpower the absolutely incredible message of the story. You can be busy and bored; you can be wrong and worry; you can be careful and clumsy; and you can be sad and smiling, etc. This one ends on such a high note that truly exemplifies the commonalities of human beings despite our differences, and is just so, so lovely in every way.

A Person Can Be,,, so many things, and sometimes they can be two seemingly opposite things at the same time! Happy and sad, careful and clumsy, people can really be anything.

This simple book by Kerri Kokias tells a story about much more in depth ideas. Teaching children about the duplicity of man, while maintaining a level for young readers to follow is quite an impressive feat.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Kids Can Press for the opportunity to read and review this title, releasing 10/04/22!

I fun picture book that shows you can be 2 sometimes different things at the same time. The illustrations really shine in this book giving you an idea of both the good and the bad.

There seems to me a surge of picture books that do not have stories per se; rather, they are a series of tableaux almost, or variations on a theme. I like this particular version and the way the book gives young readers permission to feel contradictory emotions and to see themselves as not just one thing or the other but possibly many things at the same time. I missed having a story some but of course that wasn’t the author’s intention. The talented Carey Sookocheff expands her palette and makes her pages a little busier than she has in the past—all to the good.

This is a wonderful book highlighting how a person can be feeling small and strong, naughty and nice, homesick and adventurous, imperfect and treasured, and busy but bored all at the same time, just to name a few. It is a great way to teach kids about their emotions and feelings and this knowledge can spark meaningful conversations about how to understand and manage them.

The illustrations are simple and enrich the narrative greatly. This beautiful story would be a terrific asset in a classroom and school library. The two word text is very powerful and the added illustrations visually round out their meanings perfectly.

"This thoughtful book shows how you can be two things at once and always yourself." I love it and highly recommend it.

This book tells about all of the different ways people can be. Usually the two words describing people on each page are antonyms like careful and clumsy, showing that one person can be described in more than one way and normalizing all of the different ways of being. The text is large, short and simple and the pictures support comprehension. I like the message this book sends in that everyone is special and different, and that no matter who you are and how you can be described, you are perfect just the way you are. As a grade 3 teacher, I would recommend this book to parents and teachers of children in the age 3-8 range. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!
