Stunning book, full of suspense, drama, brilliant plot and storytelling that kept me breathlessly engaged til the final page. Well deserved 5*

There are all kinds of crazy going on in this book; it’s one of the most gonzo stories I can remember reading in a long time. You can get the plot from the blurb, but simply put, Avery receives a call that her husband has been in an accident. Before he slips into a coma, he whispers four words: I took a life. In spite of this bombshell, the beginning of the book is slow. Foundations need to be laid out, but it could have gone quicker to get to the crux of the story. Avery got on my nerves with some questionable decisions. Eventually, the tension does kick up, and there are some good final twists. For more details, please visit Fireflies and Free Kicks. This review was written based on a digital copy of the book from Bookouture.

This book is filled with suspense and twists, just the way I like it! Imagine you have the perfect life. You're married to a wonderful man, you have a beautiful daughter, Mia, you own your own business, have good friends, and you're happy. Then everything changes. Avery is at work at her massage parlor when she gets a call from her daughter's school. Mia has not been picked up and the school has not been able to reach Keith, her father. Keith is very punctual and was supposed to pick up Mia today. Avery tells her friend and co-worker that she's got to go and tells her receptionist to cancel the rest of her appointments. She rushes out to pick up Mia. As she's driving towards the school, she tries to call Keith, but it goes right to voicemail. That's weird for Keith, especially on a day he's supposed to get Mia. Once Avery picks up Mia, she takes her out for ice cream to make up for her traumatic day.

As Avery and Mia are headed home, they turn the corner to their street, and Avery's stomach drops. There's a police car parked in front of her house and there's no sign of Keith. As she pulls in her driveway, the policeman says that he needs to speak to Avery. She asks him in after sending Mia up to her room. The police officer informs Avery that Keith was in a serious accident and is in critical condition at the hospital. Someone hit him with their car while he was riding his bike and they didn't stop. Avery is beyond upset and wants to get to the hospital asap.
Avery gets Ruth, a neighbor that lives near her parents to come and watch Mia so that she can go see about Keith. Upon arrival, the nurse tells Avery that Keith is in surgery. The waiting is unbearable when finally a doctor comes out and tells Avery that Keith is in critical condition and will be in ICU for the next day at least. The doctor says that she can see Keith, but that he might be asleep or out of it for awhile. As Avery enters the hospital room, Keith is asleep. She sits by his bed and holds his hand, talking to him. Keith opens his eyes briefly and tries to say something. Avery leans in and Keith says I took a life. His eyes flutter and then shut. Keith looks so peaceful all of a sudden and it turns out that's because he's now in a coma!!

Avery is told to go home as she can't do anything for Keith now and she needs to get some rest. She still has to explain to Mia that Daddy's not coming home for awhile. Avery feels so alone in the house without Keith. She's going to need help to keep everything going so she decides to move in with her parents for a bit. Avery's mother has serious bouts of depression and you never know how she'll be from day to day. Avery's father is a drunk most days with the occasional sober day thrown in. Is this really the best environment for Mia? Luckily, Ruth, Mia's godmother lives next door. She was always there for Avery growing up and was the one bright spot when things at her own home got to heavy. Mia loves her and knows that Ruth will help out if her parents are having a bad day.

Nothing is what it seems when it comes to Avery's life. Is her husband a killer? Why did he say that just before falling into a coma? Why are her parents such a mess? She hears them fighting down in the basement behind locked doors late one night.....what are they fighting about? Avery feels like she's being watched.......is she? Who is the girl in the photos she finds in the basement? What secrets are her parents keeping and why? Is Ruth the nice woman you think she is? Mia has grown very close to a new teacher assistant at her school. Should Avery be concerned? Does this woman want something from Avery, from Mia? Is Mia in danger? These questions will keep you flipping the pages to find out the truth about what's going on and why! I highly recommend My Husband's Secret and thoroughly enjoyed it. I rate the book 4.5 stars. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy in exchange for a fair review.

Wow. My first L.G. Davis book and I am in awe.
I have seen this author highly recommended on social media, but now you can add me to her fan list!
I was immediately hooked from the first chapter, and would have easily read it in one sitting had life not got in the way!
The plot was so suspenseful- gripping but so easy to read, with characters you are drawn to. It's a short read, I think around 5 hours on my kindle, but I prefer thrillers like that- no messing around, or waffle to pad it out!
The ending was so intense too, my eyes popped out!

Fantastic book. My first by this author, certainly won't be my last. I plan to get my hands on anything else L.G. Davis has written. Twists throughout the book. The ending was great.

Such a great read that I read this in one sitting. Avery's husband, hit by a car makes a simple confession before slipping into a coma. Who is this man that she married? She can't handle her daughters care by herself so she moves home for support from her parents and god mother. This book is packed full of twists and turns. The end wasn't too surprising, but did catch me off guard a bit. Very well written.

I was pulled in from the very first chapter and had a hard time putting this one down. My Husband’s Secret was a thrilling ride and full of twists that I didn’t not see coming. And just when I thought I had it figured out there was another twist.

Avery’s husband was hit by a car and found lying along side of the road. Before he slipped into a coma, he says something shocking to Avery which starts her off down the road of trying to figure out if she really knew her husband. The reader also learns that someone has been watching Avery and her daughter, and it seems they may be in danger. Will Avery’s husband wake up to tell her what happened? Or will Avery figure it out before it’s too late?

This one is perfect for thriller fans. I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more from this author.

This packs quite a few punches, with lots of secrets and hidden agendas and plenty of twists and turns. It took a bit to get going, and if you read a lot of thrillers, you kind of know what's what, but it was a compelling read and race to get to the finish line to figure out all the pieces.

While at work at her massage parlor, Avery receives a telephone call that her daughter, Mia is still at school. She has not yet been picked up. This is surprising to Avery, as her husband, Keith was supposed to pick Mia up at school. Avery rushes to get Mia, and upon her arrival home, sees the police at her house. Her husband, Keith has been involved in a hit and run. Frantic, Avery rushes to the hospital. When Keith finally is regaining consciousness, he gives Avery a frightful message. He says, “I took a life” and then once again, slips into unconsciousness. Avery is shocked and frightened. Avery requires additional support with Mia while spending time with Keith in the hospital. Therefore, she moves back in with her parents while awaiting Keith’s recovery. Moving in with her parents brings up old hurts, resentments, and memories. Avery had a difficult childhood, with an anxious, depressed mother and alcoholic father. Avery struggles to discover the secret that her husband has been harboring from her. She discovers missing money and missing documents from their home. This story has twists and turns that I never saw coming. The characters were well developed and interesting. Interestingly enough, there is another narrator to this story, “the watcher” which keeps this story captivating. I highly recommend this book and author. I will be looking for other titles by L.G. Davis as this story kept me engaged and entertained the whole way through. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.

Can you spot the antagonist of a story? I always thought I was quite good at weeding out the bad guys, until I read My Husbands Secret.

My Husbands Secret follows Avery Waylon as her life is turned upside down, her husband is hospitalised after an accident, and she always feels like she is chasing her tail trying to get everything right while trying to visit her husband and take care of her daughter.

Needing additional support she decides to move in with her parents for a while, there not the greatest but they love her daughter and can definitely help her out besides she has the loveliest woman Ruth just across the road who was her lifeline as a child and the godparent of her daughter.

The one thing that is constantly affecting Avery is before her husband slipped into a coma he said ‘i took a life.’ And now she needs to find out the truth.

My Husbands Secret was so cleverly written, written with a few different points of view along the way but most being from Avery and a character we only know as The Watcher. It sent chills down my spine the further I turned the pages.

Avery had such an amazing support system when she needed it, but as soon as she decided to hunt for the truth everything started to fall apart. I had a few suspicions along the way over who I thought this Watcher character could be…

Anything I thought I predicted along the way in this book was so wrong. I don’t think I’ve ever been more wrong. This book had a killer twist that I don’t think anyone will see coming.

Absolute, incredible read.

For me there is nothing better when the cold wet starts creeping in and the nights start getting colder. Then curling up under a blanket with a good thriller especially as spooky season is upon us, and this is a good one. I really enjoyed the duel narrative of the book, the tense atmosphere and the creepy watcher.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“I took a life”

Read if you like:
- psychological thrillers
- creepy, ominous “watcher”
- dual point-of-view
- family drama
- switched at birth

Avery’s husband Keith is hit by a car while out riding his bike one day. While in the hospital he tells his wife “I took a life” and then slipped into a coma, never to speak another word again. The medication he’s on must have made him a little loopy, he can’t have actually hurt someone. I know my husband… don’t I?
I absolutely love the dual point-of-view that this story is told from: Avery (the wife) and “The Watcher”. It made it so ominous and creepy, PERFECT for spooky season reading 🎃👻 It also jumped back and forth in time, which I love to put all the pieces of the puzzle together slowly.
This was a very gripping, heart-pounding read with so many twists and turns I couldn’t put it down!! I tore through it quickly as I literally could not stops reading until I found out what happened next.
I have read a lot of thrillers, and this one was very, very good. There was action and adventure the whole way through, there were no “fluff” bits or giant tangents of detail that loses me halfway through. This was riveting and dramatic right the whole way through! I thought for sure I saw the end coming… but I definitely didn’t! The ending was crazy and I really hope there is a sequel coming!!
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for an honest review 💕

Note: I received an advanced copy of this book from Bookouture via NetGalley.

I thought I knew my husband. I was wrong... I have the perfect life: a loving marriage, and an adorable little daughter, Mia, who is always full of smiles. But when my husband Keith is hit by a car, my whole world is turned upside down. With my heart breaking in his cold white hospital room, I hold his hand and tell him how much I love him. Then just as Keith slips into a coma, I hear him say four words that change everything: I took a life.

Mia and I move into my childhood home with my parents for support, and I spend hours by Keith’s hospital bedside, willing him to wake up. I keep his last words to myself; I cannot believe my gentle husband would hurt anyone. But as I search through his belongings, it becomes clear that he was hiding something.

And when I discover a note in my parents’ attic, my breath catches in my throat. My husband is not the only one in my family with a dark secret, and I’m beginning to think what happened to him was far from an accident…. But just as I get closer to the truth, my daughter goes missing. I’ll do whatever it takes to save my child. But I soon realize I was wrong about everyone I thought I could trust…

This was full of weird inconsistencies and writing. I was not too fond of the characters, especially since all of the female characters seemed overbearing.
