Though I have read Little Women we several times, it never gets old. If you have never got around to it, this would be a wonderful copy to start with. The illustrations are beautifully done, and a uplifting addition to the stories of the March family! Please note they are not on every page, so it's a little surprise when you turn a page, and see one. Thanks to Netgalley for the chance to read and offer my opionion. Definitely recommend!
What a classic !
A reread, but always an immense pleasure to rediscover Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. Their independence. Their love for each other. Their individuality.
Plus, this beautiful edition is an added bonus to an already beautiful story.
Beautiful Edition that is just a joy to read, even as an e-book, and must be an even more stunning experience with the actual book itself.
The Font is nice and comfortable to read, the little illustrations are beautiful and the entire book just is very well done.
It is extremely expensive, but i do think that if its one of your favorite stories? Then it is wroth the extra expense to have a stunning edition.
I don't think i need to say anything about the book itself. Little Women is a very nice story, and i do recommend reading it, even if i would not necessarily recommend trying a never read before Classic in an edition as expensive as this one - but if you have the money to spend? Why not?
I first read this classic as a child and I remembered loving this story. Now, as a re-read many years later, I have to say that that it is far more preachy and long winded than I remembered it to be.
For the illustrations in this volume, I give it a 5*. The artwork is beautiful and seems period appropriate.
Thank you to Netgalley for a chance to read this again.
I have read the book long way back. Was Intrigued to see graphic novel based on this. Little women might be my favourite book of all time. It is my comfort read whenever I feel down and I keep finding myself returning to the March sisters over and over again. The beautiful illustration fit the story really well and it is a joy to discover the little drawings between the pages
Absolutely beautiful edition. I love Little Women, it's one of my favorite classics. As soon as I saw this edition I knew I had to read it just to simply savor the illustrations. They are just exquisite and elegant and add an extra special touch to this timeless, treasured book. . I can't wait to get my own copy.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to read this book.
I’m already familiar with Marjolein Bastin’s aesthetics (similar covers for Jane Austen’s books), so I knew to expect many precious bucolic illustrations about nature and animals. It is too bad she doesn’t do scenes with people, but that’s that. Overall, the book is beautifully illustrated, although they could have included more visuals.
This edition is interesting as it contains both parts of the classic tale by Louisa May Alcott (Little Women and Good Wives). Visually speaking, it’s sweet and pleasing. Substance-wise, I’m afraid I’m one of the rare readers who fail to connect with the novel. I tried multiple times but, as much as I enjoy the 90s film adaptation, I have a hard time being riveted by the novel.
This illustrated edition of Little Women is absolutely stunning! This book is such a classic and I love that it's being released in this beautiful way. I can't wait to get my hands on a physical copy, I'm sure it's going to be even better than the digital version.

A long-time admirer of Marjolein Bastin's artwork led me to pick up this review copy. I expected to see contextually driven illustrations but there were not many. Little Women is one of my favorite classical works and this book is an aesthetically pleasing edition for a reader's bookshelf. Particularly, young readers would enjoy the bucolic charm of the volume.
A collector's must-have!
If you know anyone who loves classics, such as Little Women, Pride and Prejudice, and Jane Eyre, please check out Marjolein Bastin's editions! They are the perfect gifts. The illustrations are subtle and it enriches the story. I mean, just take a look at the flowers, birds, and fruits associated with each chapter! And the first page to write down the owner's name!! Very lovely! The copy I was provided was digital, so I could not see the envelopes, letters, or posters usually included in Bastin's editions. Overall, I am excited to see this book's physical copy, which will be added to my Christmas wish list this year. :)

I have adored these editi0ns of the classics with illustrations by Ms. Bastin. They make each book feel special. Look for the others too. There are lots of Austens, among others.
This time, the novel is the most classic of American novels, Little Women. The story of the March sisters is filled with affection and understanding. This was the first book that I ever read as a classic. I was a kid and it was a light bulb moment as I learned that the term classic did not mean boring. I have since read Little Women several times, even once in a class on children’s literature.
Here is an edition that I agree is not inexpensive but is so beautiful. It would make a perfect gift. Having seen this as an e galley, I am likely to buy this one when it is published. I can’t wait to turn the actual pages.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for this title. All opinions are my own.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, would be the first classic book I've ever read. For this edition, the book is very beautiful with illustrations by Marjolein Bastin, and this book part of The Marjolein Bastin Classics Series is a chance to rediscover classic literature in collectible, luxuriously illustrated volumes.
The illustrations in each chapter are really stunning, such as floral and insects. For me, I really like the flower illustrations the most. I hope I can have this edition in the future. Overall, we can learn so much from four sisters, despite numerous obstacles, the sisters carry on to become independent adults, each in her own way, but without losing sight of the importance of family.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for an honest review.
I first read Little Women when I was in elementary school, and have since seen several film adaptations. It was interesting to revisit the text with adult sensibilities and questions. (I remember asking Mom about the unfamiliar word “quadroon.”) How could poor people like Mrs. March and Meg afford servants? Why were there poverty stricken German immigrants with large families in New England? A long-nosed Jew at a party, really? And how could such a kind and self-aware family have a spoiled and obnoxious sister like Amy? This edition is beautifully illustrated with flowers and birds, but without pictures of the actual characters or scenes from the novel, as could be found in many older editions. I am curious if modern kids would find this snapshot of nineteenth century life with its old fashioned prose interesting enough to read. Maybe this illustrated reprint is intended to be purchased as a gift for those who enjoyed it many years ago, or to introduce the classic to children and grandchildren. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
What a gorgeous edition of a classic book! The illustrations perfectly fit the nature of the story and add to the ambience. This would make a lovely addition to any library.
If you like Little Women, you'll like this illustrated version. The illustrations are quite lovely. There really isn't much else to say.
Little Women is one of my all time favorite books. It is a beautiful story of love, family and friendship during hardship. Due to my love of the story, I have collected quite a few copies of Little Women. This is such a delightful copy of this book. The floral additions are beautiful on any book, but especially this one! There is no doubt I will be picking up this edition at publication.
I love these editions. They are so pretty and always fit the mood of the story. I want to buy this copy so badly.
