This beautiful picture book tells the story of a princess named Ameera and her sisters. They go on a journey to see their grandmother and along the way the princesses meet several animals and other characters, including a woman who may be their grandmother. But when an uncomfortable feeling settles in Ameera's stomach and she begins to suspect this woman is not who she appears to be, it is up to her to stand up for what she believes in and do what is right.
I like that this book includes themes like taking risks, working together and believing in yourself. I also think that the characters' culture and clothing are an important and valuable part of the story. The pictures are bright and colourful and help tell the story. There is a fair amount of writing per page, but it is in a good size font, well spaced and is black on white backgrounds, making it fairly accessible for young readers. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book, I think it would be a great addition to home or classroom libraries looking to make their collection more diverse.
The tale of Ameera and her sisters is a great one. It is the ultimate fairy tale with wonderful imagery and colorful pictures. It feels like it shall be a book that will be worn with love and memorized by many.
It makes me happy when I find great books that depict a different culture or way of living. It helps connect that no matter where a story is set the important things are the same: family, kindness respect and stay away from strangers
