Updated review (05/01/23):
Had the pleasure of rereading Yours Truly on audio. I couldn’t resist even though I juuuust read this not too long ago. Zachary Webber’s narration was perfection as expected and I got to fall in love with Jacob all over again!

Original review (03/08/23):
4.5 stars! Oh my gosh y'all, Dr. Jacob Maddox. The perfect book boyfriend - so gentle, caring and compassionate. 🥺

While the second half of the novel leaned heavily into the miscommunication trope, I kept in mind that Jacob has severe anxiety so thoughts/feelings/actions might be conveyed differently (which is totally okay and can be worked through). I still wish we could have explored Briana’s divorce (iykyk) more in depth instead of focusing on the constant misunderstandings, but c’est la vie.

All that aside, I loved the alternating POV’s and seeing how much Briana and Jacob adored each other. 🥰 Their chemistry really shined through on the pages. And of course I cannot leave this review without mentioning Jacob’s family. They were hilarious and such a joy to meet! Abby Jimenez has officially become an auto-buy author for me.

Thank you Netgalley and Forever for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

REVIEW: Yours Truly

“We’re all a little broken, Briana. We are a mosaic. We’re made up of all those we’ve met and all the things we’ve been through. There are parts of us that are colorful and dark and jagged and beautiful. And I love every piece of you. Even the ones you wish didn’t exist.”
― Abby Jimenez, Yours Truly

Yours Truly was a delight. The story and characters drew me in immediately, and I just wanted to keep reading. I enjoyed this book, especially as an audiobook, because it is in dual POV with two different voice actors, making it more realistic.

The two main characters, Brianna and Jacob, were so deep. Brianna is a very caring doctor who has some trust issues due to some past trauma. Jacob is a quiet but kind doctor who struggles with anxiety. Both characters were great representations of trauma, grief, and anxiety, which made them more relatable. The chemistry between them was great. There was a lot of slow-burn building up that made you want more. Unfortunately, there was not a lot of spice for the end of the build-up, but they at least had a moment. There were so many sweet moments between Brianna and Jacob. You can tell how much they cared for each other.

As I already mentioned, I was a little disappointed by the slow burn because it didn’t give a very satisfying end to the build-up. I just wanted a little bit more. The other thing that made this book difficult at times is the fact that there were so many romance tropes shoved into this book. There was workplace romance, fake dating, slow burn, miscommunication (my least favorite), and forced proximity, to name a few. As much as I loved the story, some areas had too much going on.

Overall, I loved Your Truly. It was a book I didn’t want to put down. So far, Yours Truly is my favorite book from Abby Jimenez.

Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez is a beautifully written novel that really speaks to the heart in a way few books manage. From the very first page, it pulls you into a story that feels deeply real, touching on themes of love, friendship, and personal growth in the face of life's challenges.

The characters are authentic and raw, especially Briana and Jacob, whose journeys are shaped by complex emotions and relatable struggles. Abby Jimenez has a remarkable way of portraying mental health, particularly anxiety and depression, with sensitivity and accuracy. These aren't just character traits- they're part of the fabric of who these people are, and it’s refreshing to see a romance where real-life challenges don’t take a backseat to the love story but enhance it.

The chemistry between the two leads is electric yet tender, with their relationship building slowly, layer by layer. There’s a genuine warmth to how they care for each other, helping to heal past wounds and find happiness in the most unexpected places. The way Abby weaves humor through moments of vulnerability gives the book balance, making it both heartfelt and uplifting.

What stands out the most is how Yours Truly goes beyond the typical romance. It’s not just about falling in love but learning how to accept oneself and navigate life’s difficulties with grace and courage. It’s a story of hope, showing that even in the darkest of times, love and connection can bring light.

This book will leave you with a full heart, a few tears, and a renewed belief in the power of love. Abby Jimenez has delivered another masterpiece, one that’s perfect for anyone who’s ever felt broken but found a way to heal.

*I definitely recommend this book as it has a special place in my heart.🫶*

Abby Jimenez writes romantic and thoughtful stories. Her books brim with love and romance but each one also tackles tough topics that often accompany life. This book is great.

This book was fantastic! I stayed up late reading it each night, and couldn’t wait to finish work so I could come home and keep reading! I felt like I knew the characters and that if they were to walk in my house tomorrow, we would be fast friends! The theme of anxiety was handled so carefully, and as someone who has had panic attacks, I felt they were portrayed honestly and in a way that I could totally relate. My heart felt what the characters felt - I laughed and I cried. Such a great feeling when you find a book that truly resonates with you to your core. That was this book for me.

This may be my favorite Abby Jiminez book of all time! I have never related to a character as much as I related to Bri. I adored Jacob and loved the fact that this story had male anxiety rep. Too often it's the fmc who struggles with anxiety. It's always great to see people acknowledging men's mental health.

I'd recommend this to anyone who loves a cinnamon roll mmc, fake dating, a slow burn, and large meddlesome families.

TW for talk of miscarriage.

I have read several Abby Jimenez books and each have been great. This one is no different. I love how Jacob's anxiety play into the story making him a more relatable character. I am a fan of fake dating tropes so that made it even better for me.

i just love abby jiminez books!! this is my favorite of hers so far. the anxiety rep in this book made me feel so seen - i don’t think i have ever related to a character more. i loved the way briana understood and showed up for jacob, and how he did the same for her. some other things i loved: the letters, seeing alexis and daniel again, the family dynamics, all the deeper themes: love, loss, forgiveness, trust, mental heath, etc. this is one of my new favorite books and i know i will be thinking about it for a long time to come.

Super sweet. I love the anxiety representation. The relationship between the two was adorable. I wanted to push them close and yell, JUST KISS so many times. Haha. Highly recommend this lil love story. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

This is hands down Jimenez’s best book ever. The writing, the pacing, the characters, this was chefs kiss. I instantly want more of Jacob and Briana upon finishing!

I cannot get enough of Abbey Jimenez's books. The love between fiery Brianna and sweet, socially awkward Jacob, felt real and heart-wrenching.

Beautiful novel! I definitely need to listen to this one next time! I always love Ann Patchett's books and this one is definitely one of her best in my opinion.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harper for the advanced digital copy of the book.

SWOON WARNING!!! If you do not like romantic notes passed in hospital hallways, adorable hookups, strong-willed independent women, and sensitive leading men, this book might not be for you. But if you love all those things, like I do, then you MUST read this book. It was so good. Jacob being a match for Bri's brother's transplant was a little too on-the-nose but it added to the charm of the story, and I love how it linked back to Jacob's mother as well with her transplant many years ago. I love doctor romances and this was so good, just the right amount of angst. Jacob is adorable and Bri is finding her way post-divorce and learning how to trust again. I highly recommend this book!

There’s just something about Abby Jimenez’s MMC’s that hit different ❤️ The anxiety rep in this book was so powerful. The romance was wonderful. There was a bit of miscommunication, but it made sense in the scope of things.

If Abby writes it, I read it (I say as I sit here currently reading her upcoming novel, Just for the Summer). I adore her writing, like many of us romance readers around here. ❤️ Part of Your World, the first book in this duology, was a without a doubt 5 GOLDEN STAR, read. I loved Alexis & Daniel with all my heart & couldn’t wait to continue getting small pieces of them in this sequel, though this one is following a more minor character from POYW (note: you do not HAVE to read POYW first, but Yours Truly does have a huge spoiler/ruins the ending of it, so I recommend doing so)!

As expected, I loved both MCs in Yours Truly, especially Jacob (my husband’s name is Jacob, so he immediately had my heart tbh 🥹). Abby just KNOWS how to write male characters. His neurodivergent tendencies, his severe anxiety, & his HUGE HEART made him so dang lovable. I don’t want to spoil, but the HUGE ACT of pure kindness & generousity that this man does for Bri & her family…. I’ll never forget it. 🥹 The man can do no wrong. As someone who struggles daily with anxiety, I so appreciated all of the genuine moments in Jacob’s life that highlighted how much it affected him. Such great representation that I’m sure is eye-opening for many. 🫶🏼

This romance had so many tropes that I enjoy, while also containing so much depth & raw relatability as well. Truly such refreshing writing!

I have to say there was one part of the plot toward the end (a specific trope, actually) that I could’ve done without/didn’t think added anything, which bumped this down from a full 5 star for me. Part of Your World is my fave of the duology, but overall, I of course recommend this adorable read!!! 🙌🏼💛

I love this author's writing style. Her books are so real and don't gloss over the harsh realities of trauma. This story deals with two doctors dealing with their traumatic issues from past relationships. Both are really serious. But the comradery and relationship between them is so fun and beautiful. The slow burn up to them falling for each other was heartbreaking. This is definitely one of my favorites of the year.
