My daughter and I loved this easy to read children's book, which is about a young boy and his dragon celebrating Halloween. She was able to read around half of the book to me, and I read the other half to her. We had fun exploring the beautiful, colourful graphics and doing the little activities at the end. Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
I have been a fan of the Dear Dragon books by Margaret Hillert for early reading and this series of "Let's Celebrate _____ Dear Dragon" are adaptations from the series. This is a level B book for early readers that uses a simple pattern. "It is Halloween, Look at the _____________" Using this, my granddaughter was able to read this book to me, which thrilled her. They mention fall and halloween things and the illustrations provide wonderful picture clues. The picture glossary and activities are a bonus. Great for families and primary classrooms.
My little one loves the Dear Dragon book and Let's Celebrate Halloween was wonderful! Great read for kiddos.
An adaptation of a book from a series regarding someone and their pet dragon, this barely mentions the dragon at all, but does ram it home that there’s Halloween going on and that we need to know the relevant vocab. As such we don’t really have any narrative, just a list of things to look at that are relevant to the day – and no look at the sanctioned begging that goes on. It’s hard to rate early, early, pre-pre-school readers, but I see no fault with this one, nor its attendant activities.
Let celebrate Halloween Dear Dragon is probably my favorite in the series. I love Halloween as does my son and he had a ton of fun reading this book. It's got a bunch of good sight words and great colorful illustrations to follow along with. It's got a nice mix of easy and challenging sight words and the books are just so much fun!
For those familiar with Let’s Celebrate Christmas, Dear Dragon! this book is a bit more advanced. It is for children who are learning to read sight words such as Let’s; Celebrate; Halloween; Look; at; all; and the. The word work emphasis is on learning about and counting syllables. This book has the same type of colorful and fun illustrations as the others in this series. I, of course, recommend them all. The books are great for classrooms and home reading alike.
I received an ARC from Norwood House Press through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book. I am voluntarily submitting this review and am under no obligation to do so.
Predictable text with helpful illustrations for beginning readers. A fun series that children will look forward to reading.
such a cute and fun read for me and my kids!
Easy and simple for all while still holding their attention
Halloween is another one of our favorite holidays. Halloween and dragons combined makes a fun story for my beginner reader. He really enjoyed the story and loved being able to read this on his own. We always love these stories, they’re perfect for little kids and my son loves dragons. This book was another win for my beginner reader. Would definitely recommend.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
This is another holiday entry in this series for the very beginning readers. This time young readers have a Halloween story. With brightly colored illustrations and repetitive text, this title invites children to practice their reading. There are additional activities at the end of the book.
These stories are simple but I do think that they can help beginning readers to feel a sense of mastery. Those who have this book, please encourage a child to read it out loud to you.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Norwood House Press for this title. All opinions are my own.
This is a great book for new readers. There is a picture glossary at the front for the reader to be able to properly identify characters in the pictures. Some sight words are used, mostly basic. There are excellent pictures to tell the story. Great strategy for young readers.
Thank you to Norwood Press and Netgalley for the opportunity to review this ARC.

I think this is a great Halloween book. It's interactive. It has activities to answer questions on what they see in pictures. It also teaches how to do syllables.
Think it's a good book for kids learning to read.
In this book Dear Dragon lists all of the things that he sees at Christmas time. This is a simple leveled text with several sightwords and detailed pictures to support decoding and comprehension. Each page follows a simple pattern using the first sentence “It’s Halloween.” Followed by “Look at the ______” with the nouns being things anyone who knows about Halloween decorations would be able to guess. The book opens with a list of important sightwords and ends with a word work activity. This would be a great book for parents who are not sure how to support their new readers and teachers could assign this book without having to do a lot of prep to support parents in home reading. As with most leveled books, the story is not super entertaining but for young children who want to see success reading, this book is definitely set up for them to feel successful. That being said, this text would be much harder for children who do not celebrate Halloween because they may not be familiar with words like costumes. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!
An early reader book about a boy and his pet Dragon celebrating Halloween. Making for a fun read and great for helping kids learn to read.
I just heard of this series and it's wonderful. It was made for developing children to get to know words so the narrative was made repetitive with a full page illustration, this time in the theme of Halloween. And there's also exercises at the end of the book! Perfect book for reading and learning time!
This is probably the first one I didn’t like of these books. The sentences are repetitive and it got annoying tbh. The illustrations and everything were on point as usual
Great for early readers! As mentioned in another review, I also enjoyed the visual cues!! This will be a great tool for my readers as well as something parents can use with their young readers at home.
I loved this book! Really like how at the beginning of the book there is an easy review with visual cues of every word that will be in the book! Such a great way for parent/guardians or educators to review word sounds and how to pronounce words before kids get reading. I feel like this opens up way more opportunity for solo reading! I also really loved the quick activities at the end that bring you even further into the ways the words sound, how to count syllables and how to interpret pictures with descriptive words used in the book!
