This was a very Hallmark-esque story, which I enjoy! However, this one was just okay and it wasn't interesting enough for me to want to read more by this author.

This was my first book by this author. It is a sweet romance. Poppy has always taken care of her family since her mothers death but decides it’s time for a break and goes away at Christmas time. She meets the neighbor who she is immediately attracted to. You see the growth of Poppy as she gets her HEA.

Hideaway at Silver Lake by Jennifer Greene is the first book in the new contemporary romance Snowflake Sisters series. The Snowflake Sisters series does seem to be one that will change main characters with each new book with this first book reading fine as a standalone if choosing to do so.

Poppy McGuire has always put everyone else first never making time for herself but now the time has come Poppy just needs a break. Poppy packs up her things and heads an isolated cabin determined to avoid the holiday mayhem with her family.

What Poppy didn’t expect during her time alone was to not be quite so alone when she meets her hunky neighbor. Just as Poppy is getting to know her neighbor and settling in though her sisters show up and start to bring their problems all the way to Poppy’s hideout.

Hideaway at Silver Lake by Jennifer Greene was a great opener to this new romantic Snowflake Sisters series. Who out there couldn’t relate to the main character with sometimes being overwhelmed with everyone else’s needs? I certainly know I could. With likable characters and a glimpse into Poppy’s sisters it seems this will be a series I won’t be able to resist continuing.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

This was a charming romance. Poppy Maguire retreats to a small cabin in Silver Lake, Wisconsin to escape from the demands her family places on her for a little while. As the eldest of three girls, she has been taking care of her two sisters and father from the age of eleven when her mother was killed in a car wreck. She mets Sam Cooper, and they fall in love, but will the demands of her job in Madison keep her away from him after her two week's vacation? Find out by reading this engaging book. I highly recommend this book to other romance readers. I received an ARC of this book, and the opinion expressed is strictly my own.

I always enjoy a story about a stressed-out woman who decides to put it all down and flee to a remote cabin for a few weeks. However, this story fell a little flat to me. From her unloading her life story to her hunky neighbor upon first meeting him, to them both falling in love with each other after only a few days together, to them nearly sacrificing said love because their respective families demand so much of them, the story felt a little unbelievable to me. I love a good romantic story about instant chemistry and learning how to incorporate a new love into an already hectic life, but there were just a few too many unrealistic moments for me in this book.

I also wanted to see some of Poppy and Sam’s flaws. For both Poppy and Sam, their worst quality was that they both give too much of themselves to others. Without seeing a messier side to them, they felt a bit one-dimensional. It’s a sweet story, but it’s missing some punch.

At its core, this book is something many of us can relate to–getting overwhelmed by life’s obligations and trying to attain that elusive balance we all hear so much about. If you want a light, easy read to fall into, this book fits the bill.

Poppy retreated to an isolated cabin to get away from her hectic job and needy family. Sam is surprised to see lights on at the empty cabin so he checks to make sure the visitor is safe. And the rest as they say is history.

They click because they're so alike. When Poppy's sisters find her and Sam's Dad suffers a medical emergency the idyllic respite they found together comes to an end. Can they make a long distance relationship work? Between the distance, their demanding family and job commitments it's a struggle. You're going to want to read this one. I'm excited for the next book in the series.

I didn't hate Hideaway at Silver Lake, but I definitely didn't love it either. It's a very forgettable book, in my opinion. You know the ones that once you've written the review, you've forgotten all about it? Cons to it were the chapters were insanely long, making the book feel like it took forever to read, and I was never actually going to finish it. Romance aspect felt rushed and kind of stereotypical. Pros for it were the main character and the things she was going through were totally relatable. If you've ever been the responsible one in the family and felt suffocated by everyone and life in general, then you'll completely understand our main character's need for a break and to escape. It was a good winter time read for me, but I doubt I'll read anything else Jennifer Greene has written, at least not for a while.

Poppy is a type-A, busy body, people pleaser, but she is constantly suffocated by her sisters. She has always felt pressured to be the responsible "parent" in their lives since losing their mother at young age and their father hasn't done anything for himself (or his daughters) in years.
So Poppy does the only logical thing you can think of to do in her situation: flees to an isolated cabin. She feels that the only possible way to get her sisters to stop depending on her is to essentially "cut them off."
Poppy lets her sisters know she will be gone for a few weeks over Christmas and that she is totally fine but will be unreachable. She just wants a little peace and quiet for a change and to be free of the constant pressure and soul-crushing weight of being the "mom" figure in their lives.

Tropes:
Small town romance
Insta-love
Holiday romance

I want to start out by saying that this one was a doozy. I really struggled getting into this book. The biggest thing that killed it for me was the extremely long chapters. For a book with only 300 pages it felt more like 600. The second biggest thing that made it hard for me was the story felt very repetitive. I'm also not a huge fan of the insta-love trope at all so the connection between the FMC &MMC felt very rushed. There is a big difference between instant attraction and saying you love them in less than 2 weeks knowing them. The premise of this book was enticing but it jut fell flat for me. I am glad I got some resolution at the end of the book.

Thank you to Avon/HarperCollins Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Poppy assumed responsibility for her sisters at the tender age of 11. Now, she needs breathing space. She disappears to a cabin only to discover hunk of the north, Sam and his dog Bubbles.
Sam stakes his claim from day one but has to figure out how to set boundaries fir both their sakes.
Will Poppy be willing?
It’s a quick read, simple and charming. Replete with tons of talking and family, my favorite parts were when they shared the ice together.

Poppy McGuire has had enough. She’s always been the one to take care of her two sisters and their father. She now needs some alone time and she has found the perfect way to get it. She takes a very rare vacation from her job at Christmas time. She desperately wants to break with tradition and celebrate Christmas and New Year’s on her own. She rents a secluded cabin in Wisconsin and settles in for a blissful holiday season.

Of course it’s anything but blissful when her closest neighbor comes around with his huge friendly dog, Bubbles. Sam Cooper is the neighbor and Poppy is more than happy with the handsome distraction. Then, her family finds her and they intrude on her relaxation time.

This book is a delightful escape into Poppy’s world. I found all the characters very likeable, even though there were times I wanted to shake her sisters. LOL The author gave us a charismatic hero and strong, independent heroine. I thought the characters were quite realistic and easy to relate to. Like Poppy, I've found myself wanting to leave everything behind and go on a getaway alone.

The setting is perfect, especially at this time of year. I felt as if I was transported to Wisconsin for a few days while reading this one.

There’s family drama as well as a classic romance. I, also, don’t want to forget Bubbles - the boisterous, happy dog. All of these things are rolled into a cozy, heartwarming romance. I had to rate this one 5 stars- it just left me with those warm, fuzzies feelings.

I hope there will be more books about Poppy’s sisters. I just know they have their own stories to tell.

What a delightful story.

Poppy decides she needs time away from her life and family and rents a cabin for a few weeks. I fantasize about doing this all the time so I instantly connected with her.

No sooner does Poppy arrive then she meets Sam and sparks start flying. They’re so cute together and I loved watching their relationship develop. Of course there are some life twists and things don’t go quite as planned but Poppy discovers what she needs going forward to be happier with her life, and of course that includes her future with Sam.

I really enjoyed this story. I felt drawn in from the beginning and I loved the setting. Add some romance and it’s the perfect book to curl up with on a cold, winterty day.
