The family that steals together, stays together. Part heist, part mystery, part romance, ALL family drama. This fresh, fun, mystery was a perfect escape. I loved how complicated the characters were and the writing was compelling--didn't want to put this book down! If you love Succession, Arrested Development, and the Thomas Crown Affair, this is the book for you!

I don’t care what anyone else says, Jillian Moorewood is channeling Karma by Taylor Swift. Jillian has been in prison for the last three years to help protect her family from the consequences of their business: running cons. While in jail, she has done the work to get everything above board, and her top priority in returning home is figuring how who turned her in.

Feeling connected to the characters has always been one of the biggest factors that draws me into a story. Some of the Moorewoods experienced significant growth and some did not. The growth that Jillian experiences is so important and one of the highlights of this book. Her place in the family and the expectations that she puts on herself of her evolve so quickly. Some of the not-as-well written characters have some potential and are set up nicely in any future books. I am really hoping that we get to see more of Astrid; at least what she does after this book.

Additionally, the pacing in this book threw me. I had a tough time getting into it at the beginning because the first third of the book only covers about 24 hours. The beginning is repetitive, and the plot didn’t really begin to move forward until you are well into the book. I was excited about the possibility for some sort of heist, but it does not amount to more than family squabbling. I would love to see their family dynamic in action during a con. Finding out when Jillian’s parents met and how he conned her into a marriage would be so interesting to read about. The characters overall are incredibly compelling, and there is a lot of potential here that I hope is explored further in the future.

The Moorewood family of con-artists is shocked when Jillian shows up to a party at their sprawling mansion in Rhode Island - she’s supposed to be locked up! For the last 39 months, Jillian has been in prison and now she desires to set her family straight; stop the cons and move on. But there are some in the family who would never give up the lifestyle and luxuries, so now Jillian has a target on her back.

I was really surprised with this novel. The interesting storyline, the witty-banter. It wasn’t much of a mystery and the twists in the plot were not overtly surprising, but it was still a fun, lighthearted read.

There are still a few things I am curious about… Doug being one of them. Not sure he played any significance to the story, I thought maybe you’d find out he was doing something nefarious in Europe, but it doesn’t appear that way. It was pretty obvious he took off his watch/tracker, that is why he was stationary.

Thank you Netgalley and Avon for this ARC. An enjoyable read. I’d put it on the lines of Anxious People. Was considering whether it would be a good book club book, but not sure of the discussion about it. I’ll have to see. Will definitely suggest it to others and get it for the adult section of our library.

Oh what an absolute delight. This is exactly the type of book I didn't know I needed. Especially in the midst of all my fall book reading (mysteries, thrillers, holiday, fantasy). Perfect summer read for anyone looking. Grab a martini/bloody mary and sit down to enjoy the ride.

Early on this book reads like a Janet Evanovich; it just made you laugh and smile. The characters and scenes just pulled you in. Ahh the drama of being in prison and saving your family....and then wanting them to grovel their "thanks". The ending was a bit lack-luster but overall wrapped up well. And the fun/drama throughout the rest of the book make up for it.

I wish this was a series....I wish this was a TV show. I would love to have 5-6 prequels up until the start of this book. And I would have loved for the "solution" of this book to be the overall ARC...with even more extended family to create more books.

A couple of grammar/narrative/name errors - only about 5-6 throughout. But this should be sorted well before the April pub date.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. The reviews expressed our my own. This was one of my NetGalley ARC fav's for the year.

This book was wonderful and definitely built up the sexual tension between the characters beautifully. While it only spans a few days, the way it is written seemed like a months long story unfolding. The author did a great job of mild suspense throughout.

Moorewood Family Rules as fun and had all DRAMAAAAA. i loved the character development that our MC, Jillian, went through throughout the novel. She came into the story only wanting revenge to those who turned her in to realizing that she wanted to leave this life she was currently living behind and put herself first. The bodyguard romance was an extra fun aspect of this story.

I felt there were times where the story dragged a bit and it felt like unnecessary “fluff” that i could have done without. I also felt like i would have enjoyed this story even more if it was wrote from first person POV from all the family members and Beck. Not all of the Moorewood family was always on the same page and i feel like getting to be inside their heads would have added even more of an appeal.

I loved the different rules as chapter titles as well. It was was definitely a fun, quick read i would recommend to others!

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for supplying an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Knives Out meets Succession meets Oceans 8, which apparently is my new favorite genre. This book was an absolute delight, 10/10 stars, please make it into a movie ASAP.

The Moorewood Family Rules was so funny. The amount of debauchery and ridiculousness that embodies this book is unreal. Jillian Moorewood has been in prison for the past thirty-nine months all because someone in her family ratted her out and now she’s out for revenge. Her family is full of scam / con artists and it’s basically them just trying to get rid of Jillian the entire time because she controls the entire estate. She’s hired a bodyguard… ;) and now she’s just trying to survive day by day while her family continues to get rid of her. I wish there was more romance in this book but, the family aspect made up for it.

It’s a hilarious quick read that will have you rolling with laughter. Thanks Netgalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for the early ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

3.5 stars --- this is a book about a family who just can't give up the con. They are always looking for a way to scheme and steal, even after one of their own goes to prison.

I enjoyed this story about the conning Moorewood family but I was hoping for a little bit more --- like a big planned job that Jillian needed to come back and interfere with.

A lot of the plot felt repetitive and the foreshadowing towards the final outcome was not subtle enough to make the conclusion feel dramatic or exciting. Felt more like a family saga instead of a family drama.

Such a crazy, delightful, funny story. Each character has such flaws in personality that are skillfully defined. Cons and grifters, the whole lot pitch themselves against cousin/niece/sister Jillian in an attempt to stop her from having all the family money and the estate. Astrid is way out of control. Anika is, in her own twisted way, trying to escape. Clueless Jay. A host of other characters fill the pages with rather ironically funny business. A real treat to read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I wanted to like this book so much, but honestly it felt like there was something missing the entire time. The first chapter was intriguing, but from there I felt like there were questions that never got answered — just wasn’t for me but might be for someone else.

I definitely see the connection to oceans 8 in this book. I enjoyed this read and the cast of eclectic characters. I wish the stakes had felt higher throughout. I was waiting for a grand con but in the end I felt it wasn’t enough. I wanted more action and drama. While I love a good falling for the body guard trope, I wasn’t worried she actually needed one. The writing was hard for me at points, a little in your face and not as nuanced as I’d want while reading about con artists. In the end it was cute and cheesy and warm hearted.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC! This book was pitched as Knives Out meets Ocean's 8 and I think they're fantastic comps, so this will for sure appeal to fans of either one of those titles!
The bodyguard/love interest, Beck was by far my favorite character because the sass and wit was perfect, especially his banter with Jillian. The family dynamics are complex and interesting, so if you're a fan on intricate family dynamics and morally gray characters this will also be a good pick for you!
Overall it was a good read and I enjoyed it!

I enjoyed this book mostly because of the chemistry between the main character and her love interest. I did think the actual action might be more exciting than what happened but it was still good. Three point five stars

Knives Out is probably one of my favorite movies that’s come out recently (3 years is recent!) so I was very excited about this book. Unfortunately, this book didn’t really live up to my expectations. There were so many characters I had a hard time keeping track of all of their stories. I also had a hard time rooting for any of the characters since none of them were especially “good”. In most cases books are better than movies, but I think stories like this are best told on screen.

Moorewood Family Rules is the definition of a cozy mystery. Full of family drama, hilarious one-liners and a mystery that will keep you on your toes, this novel is a great read for when you want to be left questioning, but you don't really want to get overly stressed out by your book.
