This book is a must read for all artists! I love Schulman's no-nonsense approach to business and all of her great stories that are woven in. The quotes at each chapter were particularly inspiring. I'll be buying a copy for all of my coaching clients!
As a Writer who took the self-publishing path, I wanted to read this book because I still have a lot to learn about how I talk about my books and writing and this was a good one to read especially the outline on pricing and how to live off art.
Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.
(Thanks to HarperCollins Leadership for the digital ARC to review.)
The book goes through the author's steps for making small creative businesses more sustainable for the artist/creative owner. The author is a watercolor portrait artist, but the takeaways can be applied to other creative businesses.
The author writes about properly pricing your craft (for art, the author states to pick a medium/product that you can make and that can be profitable) at a higher price, what to write in your email newsletters, how to listen and respond to people who ask about your art/product/service, rethinking negative thoughts into more productive ones, and organizing/blocking out time for a specific task. The author also includes examples of the strategies she talks about from her own experiences and stories from students of her course.
The writing was easy to read and there was a lot of useful information.
I was looking forward to reading Artpreneur, but every time I try to read it, it appears as "Art of the Tale" instead. I double and triple checked it—the same error happened on NetGalley, Kindle, and Digital Editions. Assuming this is a mistake on the part of the publisher, I will give the book three stars because I don't want the author to be punished over something out of their control, but it also doesn't feel right to give the book five stars given the experience I had.
