Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read an ARC of "The Christmas Cupid", written by author Jennifer Joyce. This novel tells the story of Zoey, who is not having a great month, It's almost Christmas time, and all she has to show for it is a crappy haircut, being single, and probably the worst of all - getting hit by a double-decker bus labeled "The Santa Express". But, as luck would have it - Zoey is given a second chance at life - all she has to do is go back to the beginning of December, where she has a limited amount of time to pair 6 couples by Christmas Eve. She also wouldn't mind winning her boyfriend back, either...
Overall, I rated this book 4/5 stars!
This book was just adorable. Our MC Zoey has been given a second chance to live the month of December with a mission to complete. She has to make 6 love matches before Christmas Eve. Zoey is also focused on becoming the "Perfect Girlfriend" and fixing a big fight she had with her boyfriend before her .
Zoey throws herself into match-making and waits for the magic to happen.
I loved Milo, Franciska and Eloise. I loved being in and around the Manchester Christmas markets as I've been several times and can picture it and smell the gorgeous fragrances of the festive season! I really want a raspberry ripple hot chocolate now!
This was so incredibly boring to me. I ended up DNF’ing it around 30%. I just couldn’t finish the rest.
Such a cute light Christmas read, I loved the story and the holiday vibes. I enjoyed the author's writing style and I am looking forward to reading more of her books!
I love this book. Any Christmas book brings me joy. I had to hurry up and read it in October so I think I would have been more in the spirit if I would have read it in December. But all around, a romantic, sweet book. I look forward to reading her future books.
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This was such a cozy Christmas read done right! The Christmas feels were definitely there.
This was enjoyable but it also felt very similar, if not slightly too based on Christmas cliches; I was a fan and I would read more books by this author, I just also think its very difficult to write a unique Romance Christmas book without leaning on some of the cliches.
I loved reading this one. I just love this kind of books.
4 stars read for me. I love this author snd her writing style.
Thanks to netgally for this arc.
I loved this cute holiday romance. I loved the aspect of going back to change how she lives her life and to mke her respect herself more
For going in expecting a holiday romance, I was a bit disappointed. The romance is focused less on our main lady, Zoey, and instead on her personal growth and the matchmaking.
The story is one we often see if various ways and while it was a comforting and quick read that met the spirit of the season, it left me desiring just a bit more.
The Christmas Cupid by Jennifer Joyce
Genre: Holiday, Romance
Publisher: HQ
I recommend you read this book if you enjoy the second chance at life trope.
~ Brief Synopsis ~
Between her terrible haircut and being dumped by her boyfriend, Zoey's December is not going well. Just when she thinks things can’t get any worse, an accident involving ‘The Santa Express’ leaves her…dead.
Luckily for Zoey she is given a second chance at life. Sent back to the start of December, Zoey must match six couples by Christmas Eve to save her life.
~ My Thoughts ~
Jennifer Joyce brings us a sweet romance novel packed with plenty of Christmas festivities. It was a light and easy read which felt like being wrapped in a big Christmas blanket. I loved the match making theme and thought this was fun idea for a romcom. This book read like a hallmark movie and I think it would make a great film.
One thing I didn't like was the entire toxic boyfriend storyline. I have no words for this idiot… at least none that are appropriate for social media. He made me so mad, which I know was probably the point, but it meant I had to keep taking breaks from reading about his utter bullsh*t and Zoey's complete lack of awareness. I wish she had figured it out a little faster which would have made it a more enjoyable read for me.
Thank you @netgalley and @hqstories for my gifted ARC.
I really enjoyed this read, especially since it has to do with London/British points. Would totally recommend.
Zoey is having a terrible December, nothing seems to be going her way at all. The final straw comes when Zoey’s boss volunteers her to walk (on stilts!) in the store's Christmas parade. This sets off a strange set of events starting with her being snt back to the beginning of December for a do over
A quick, if somewhat predictable, light christmas read.
There are summer beach reads and then there are Christmas reads. The Christmas Cupid by Jennifer Joyce a perfect example of a Christmas read.
Zoey Beake is called in for emergency duty at the holiday parade. She's a department store elf but must quickly learn to walk on stilts for the parade when the juggler calls in sick. As she's walking in the parade, she spots her ex-boyfriend with another girl. They just broke up! How could he already be with another girl? The shock causes her to lose her balance and she literally keels over.
She gets a chance to re-live her life but under one condition - she must help 6 couples find love before the the day of the accident. She tries to set up friends, neighbors, and strangers in an effort to come back to life. Will she be able to fix her love life too?
This was a cute story and a very pleasant read.
Thank you to the publisher and author for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
So I’ll be honest this book was a little hard for me to get into. But once I committed to it, I actually got really into it.
*spoilers ahead!!*
I definitely knew quickly that Scott was cheating. That was so obvious and I’m surprised she didn’t notice it sooner in her second go around of December. But other than that, a lot of the book was not an obvious surprise to me and I didn’t know where it would go. It kept me captivated, I loved the ending and the couples that got together. Very cute holiday book,
Meh. I didn’t enjoy this one, unfortunately. A lot of details were left off-page, so I did not like that. It was also super predictable so this wasn’t a good fit for me. K appreciate the opportunity to read and review!
To be honest I struggled to read this book on my kindle. The way it was on my kindle was each sentence was not continuing on the same line. It was like you were starting a new paragraph when you weren’t. I’m not sure if that’s how it was on everyone else’s but that’s how it was on my mine and it made it difficult to read. If I could show a picture I would but I can’t
I struggled a lot with this book, the story didn't impress me and it was quite boring. I also struggled to like the main character. Zoey was unrelatable and unlikeable. I got to be honest that I ended up skiming a lot of this book because I just couldn't stand it. So dissapointed because I thought it had so much potential.
In The Christmas Cupid we follow Zoey, who isn't having the best December. Her boyfriend just broke up with her, she’s had an extremely dodgy haircut that even the biggest woolly hat can’t hide, and then a tragic accident – involving an elf outfit, stilts, and a red double-decker bus labelled ‘The Santa Express’ – leaves her dead..
But then Zoey is given a second chance at life. Sent back to the start of December, if she can match six couples by Christmas Eve her life will be saved. Which gives her the perfect opportunity to win her boyfriend back too…
Can Zoey find love in time for Christmas?
I had some trouble getting myself to pick this one up, I had actually planned to pick it up in November, to read and review it before its releases, but I just couldn't. Luckily I finally picked it up, even though it was a month later than planned. The fantasy element in this book was very unexpected (maybe because I didn't fully reads the synopsis before? I just wanted a cute Christmas romance), but it was enjoyable and didn't overrule the book at all. Maybe a bit literally a second chance romance for our main character?
This is one of my first Christmas reads, and I really enjoyed this one, mostly since it isn't all rainbow and sunshine (or, in this case, snow and a Christmas tree?).
Zoey was a likable character, even though she was a bit naïve at times, which definitely made me roll my eyes more than once.
The other characters where also quite enjoyable and likable, and some definitely got a lot of personalities, which was a pleasant surprise, since that doesn't really happen a lot in romance books. This was the main reason why this book will be a memorable Christmas read for me!
The writing was very enjoyable and it was a book that surprised me from time to time. Will definitely recommend this one to anyone who needs a Christmas book to read!
Thank you Netgalley for providing me with an eARC.
The Christmas Cupid is the type of Christmas book that I know instantly to not take too seriously. I actually think this was the first one I’ve read that includes magic/supernatural vibes. It wasn’t magical beyond Zoey seeing the ghost of her grandmother and the watch keeping track of the matches, so it didn’t cross the line of ridiculous too often.
I actually would have loved for this to be inspired by A Christmas Carol. Seeing how different her past, present and future would be without Scott would have been really fun. That wasn’t the case though.
Instead, you got to read about her pining for a no-good man who treats her horribly. The absolute naivety of Zoey sometimes was uncomfortable to read. I don’t want a character who thinks taking a load of crap from their partner and not mentioning it in fear of them breaking up with them is a good thing. It really isn’t fun to read.
What was fun though, was the Christmas market and events they attend. I liked how each event was Christmas themed and it really made the book quite festive.
It’s actually quite a shame that the cover gives away so much of the story, I’m not including this as a spoiler because it’s obvious from the get-go. The couple on the front does include Zoey, but that’s not her boyfriend, he doesn’t even have the right skin tone. I won’t lie, I didn’t pick up on it at first, but once you get around halfway through The Christmas Cupid, it’s obvious where it is going.
There seemed to be a little too much filler in the middle and the end was definitely rushed. I get that festive romances are completely over the top, but I always find it quite difficult to look past the ‘I’m instantly in love with you’ trope.
The Christmas Cupid was a decent, festive-filled read. It’s the perfect book for those who want a bit of Christmas injected into their December with a quick read. Don’t go into this expecting the best book ever though, take it with a pinch of salt. The premise is a bit ridiculous and the characters are often very dumb. You do kind of like them though.
