I really wanted to love this story. However, neither of these characters were. Interesting.

After liking the first book, I was happy to see the audiobook for this one appear on Netgalley. I am always looking for more audiobooks to fill my time. The narration for this one was well done. I liked the dual cast for both point-of-views. The book was not exactly what I was expecting and it ended up being one that didn’t work for me.

The book is told from two point-of-views, Evelyn St. James and Beckett Porter. They both have very different jobs, but one chance encounter has them fumbling towards each other. They both go through character growth as well when learning what it means to have and want to hold onto a relationship.

I liked Beckett’s character in the first book. It’s one reason I decided to give this one a go. My problem with the book was the romance. Book one told the reader how Beckett and Evelyn met, but this one didn’t do a good job adding to it. It was a physical attraction at first and felt like that was what their whole relationship was. There wasn’t any real substance to it. I may be in the minority here for that, but it just didn’t make me feel their connection.

The side characters are always enjoyable to read in this series so I have no complaints there!

Overall, this was a miss for me. I do like Beckett as a character and the growth that Evelyn had but the romance just didn’t do it for me.

This book is fantastic. I loved Lovelight Farms as well. I can’t wait for Mixed Signals! I’m a fan of this author for sure.

So I started this book not realizing it was part of a series... While it was fine as a standalone, I think it may be beneficial to read the first in the series to have more context on the characters and town because you kind of get dumped into Evie and Beckett's story.

This was just okay for me -- it's set in a charming small town with plenty of nosy neighbors which is fun -- but I didn't really feel the connection between Evie and Beckett and the storytelling felt a bit disjointed. Their relationship was largely an instant love / physical connection and we never got much emotional depth, despite the chapters being told from both of their points of view. The audiobook narration made for easy listening, but overall I had a hard time connecting with this one and wasn't very invested in their story.

Thank you Dreamscape Media for my audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

One incredible weekend in Maine, and Beckett Porter is officially a distracted man. He’s not unfamiliar with hot and heavy flings. He knows how it goes. But Evie wove some sort of magic over him during their tumble in the sheets. He can’t stop thinking about her laugh, her hand pressed flat against his chest, her smiling mouth at his neck, her eyes, her legs.

So when she suddenly appears on his farm as part of a social media contest, he is confused. He had no idea that the sweet and sexy woman he met at a bar is actually a global phenomenon: social media influencer Evelyn St. James. When she disappears again, Beckett resolves to finally forget her and move on.
But Evelyn St. James has a problem. Feeling disconnected from her work and increasingly unhappy, she’s trying to find her way back to something real. She returns to the last place she was happy, Lovelight Farms and the tiny town of Inglewild.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the hot farmer she spent two incredible nights with—nothing at all.
In The Weeds is a sweet and steamy second-chance romance about finding your happiness. It features a grumpy farmer, a no-nonsense social media influencer, a small town of busybodies, and four very cute kittens. This is the second book in a series of interconnected standalones following the three Lovelight owners.

Second chance romance for the second installment of Lovelight Farms. I have not read the first book in this series, and while it is not necessarily needed, it feels like a missing piece.

I want to preface this by saying I did not read the first Lovelight Farms book. However I got the feeling Evie and Beckett's relationship started there. That being said, I didn't feel the intense connection that was being sold. I enjoyed this book but just felt like something was missing and maybe I would have gotten that if I'd read the first one. I read this via audiobook and thought the male narrator was really good! I got annoyed with the female one sometimes because it seemed like there was always a smile on her face - even in scenes that she probably shouldn't have been smiling.
Overall, I liked Beckett a lot - grump who fosters cats and a duck! I like the second chance romance and grumpy sunshine tropes too.

I was so pleased to get this ARC audiobook from Net Galley.

Upfront, this book is #2 in the Lovelight series, and while I tried to get a copy of Book #1 from my library, I wasn't able. That means I likely missed out on a lot of the warm and fuzzy, "I-know-them!" vibes I would have enjoyed otherwise.

There was much to like about this book. I love when a strong-yet vulnerable woman falls for a strong-yet vulnerable man. I liked the setting of a little urban, a little rural. I liked that neurodivergence was seen in a main character, vs in a quirky secondary character. I REALLY liked the end's grand gesture.

A few things I didn't love include the use of miscommunication (and assumptions) as a plot device. I want to shake people and tell them to read more Brene Brown. I also thought, while I had no dislike of the female narrator, it was a strange choice to hire a white woman to voice the main character, a woman of colour.

All in all, a solid 3-3.5 stars.
I'll definitely keep an eye out for Book #1.

Romance readers: prepare to binge read everything BK Borison has written because she is about to become your new favorite author! I fell head over heels for Beckett and Evie who are just the absolute cutest couple ever. I am normally not a huge fan of celebrity/influencer romances, but this book is the exception to every rule. This soft, beautiful, tenderly written novel tells the story of a one-night stand that comes back to haunt when Evie's job as a travel/small business influencer takes her to Inglewild, where her Maine fling works as head farmer. Beckett is a big, gruff man who has the softest heart in the world. Evie is a bright and sunny woman who is lost right now, and she returns to Inglewild to feel grounded. At its heart, this book is about comfort and new beginnings and love. An amazing book that I cannot recommend enough!!

Second chance romance after a one-night stand.

The second book in the Lovelight series, In The Weeds, tells Beckett’s story. Takes place on a Christmas tree farm and has a small town feel. I just really liked these characters together, and I can’t wait to catch up with them in the next book (Layla’s story).

Please note: I actually read this book on Kindle first and gave it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. My friends challenged me to listen to an audio book because I haven’t done that since they were done on CDs back in the early 2000s! At that time, I listened to one book… voiced by Lori Petty… and said “never again”. Until my friends challenged me last week haha

The audio book held up to the ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ although I still don’t think they are really my thing. I’ll stick to reading my books 😉

If you enjoyed Lovelight Farms, there is no doubt you won't love In The Weeds. BK Borison's writing is phenomenal and this book was everything I hoped for. It did take me some time to get into the story. I think it was because I was trying to piece together how the last book ended and connect the timeline with the flashbacks. But once Evie got to the farm and crossed paths with Beckett, I couldn't stop reading. I loved how Evie was searching for her happy and how Beckett was invested in Evie finding this. The supporting cast of characters was great, and I loved seeing Stella and Luka again.

In reads to the audio, the narration was great and easy to follow along with! I can’t wait for Mixed Signals!

-Grumpy/ sunshine pairing

I want to start by saying that this is one of my all-time favorite books. I think BK Borison is such a gifted writer and has built a world you'd desperately want to be a part of.

Having said that, it took me awhile to get used to the narration of Evie's parts. I think it was the infections that threw me off a tiny bit. I know that audio narration preferences are so personal, and I don't want to take away from a job well done by Jayne, it was just not my personal favorite. Now Beckett. I thought Anderson did a stellar job bringing him to life.

Overall, I think the audiobook narration was excellent. Good timings, believable drama, and captivating pacing. Highly recommend!

I can not say enough good things about BK Borison's books. I've read everyone I can get my hands on and I was thrilled to see they are coming out on audiobook. In the Weeds is one of my favorite comfort reads and I've read it multiple times. Both Narrators to this book did a fabulous job but the male voice is just how I thought Beckett would sound. Great Audio and Amazing book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Like Evie did in the trees, in Beckett’s sheets and in the weeds, I “found my happy” between the pages of B.K. Borison’s second book.

B.K.’s writing is a unique brand of enchanting and magically tender, blended with thoughtful emotions and the kind of vibrant descriptions that would make Anne of Green Gables proud. B.K. is a master at weaving beautiful atmospheric detail with realistic raw emotions making you feel them as strongly as if their beats originated in your own heart.

"𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕'𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔, 𝑰 𝒈𝒖𝒆𝒔𝒔. 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒂 𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒌 𝒐𝒇 𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇." —𝑩𝒆𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒕𝒕

I was fully immersed in the story and setting — I could 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍 the warm sunlight spilling into Beckett’s cabin and the fuzzy kittens cuddling into my neck; 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓 the leaves rustling around Evie when she’s perched atop a tree and the community laughter at trivia; 𝒔𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒍 the dew-draped landscape and the Spring breeze blowing across the farm.

Overall this story is an intimate and charming exploration of family, community, selflessness and self discovery relying on the heartfelt and heart-wrenching realness of Beckett and Evie’s experiences and emotions to carry you though the story.

“𝑰 𝒔𝒘𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒃𝒖𝒓𝒏 𝒖𝒏𝒇𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒔𝒒𝒖𝒆𝒆𝒛𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒆. 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝑰 𝒘𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒇 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒔. 𝑰𝒇 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒊𝒕 𝒐𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒇𝒂𝒄𝒆.” —𝑩𝒆𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒕𝒕

B.K. delivers a powerful message wrapped up in a sweet story that is perfect for the end of summer season characterized by renewed energy, crisp freshness, warm breezes, slowly sinking suns, embracing your courage and leading with your heart.

Audiobook specifically, it took us a hot minute to adjust to Dane Anderson’s deep tone of voice reading Beckett, but once we did the dual narration was phenomenally well done. Pippa and Dane perfectly executed a balance of thoughtful enthusiasm, inflection, excitement and care. Their voices uniquely complimented each other, flowed easily, provided added chemistry and increased our intrigue in the characters as individuals and a couple.

We thoroughly enjoyed this reading experience B.K.! Thank you sincerely to Netgalley, B.K., Dreamscape and enough for placing her heart in my hands at the perfect time. I raise my wine-filled jam jar to you, B.K.!

This book stole my heart!!! Beckett is such an unexpectedly sweet protagonist and Evie is such a lovely compliment to his gruff farmer vibe. I loved the small town, Beckett’s family, Evie’s arc of self growth away from repetitive life to returning to her passions. The narration was incredible and really drew me further into the book. An automatic all time favourite!!
