Wow! I absolutely loved this book. It has been a while since I have had to read through tears. I am looking forward to reading more by this author, once I recover emotionally. 😉
Thank you #NetGalley, Bookouture and Alison Ragsdale for the opportunity to read #TheChildBetweenUs.
The Child Between Us was a gripping story about unconditional love and second chances. This story was an emotional rollercoaster in the best way possible.
The story follows Cassie after she receives devastating news back to back. Cassie's life is upturned with news about her sister as well as news about herself. This story focus on how Cassie puts others first and tries to be the best for everyone.
This story was emotional gripping and you want to keep reading to see how it ends. I loved the writing and truly enjoyed this book. Would highly recommend.
THE CHILD BETWEEN US by Alison Ragsdale is a heart-wrenching and beautiful story of grief, love, family and forgiveness that held me captive from beginning to end. One thing I always love about Alison Ragsdale’s books is the complexity of emotions portrayed and the depth to which relationships are explored. This book is no exception. Cassie and her twin sister, Isla, were always inseparable so Cassie was bereft when Isla disappeared without a trace five years ago. Cassie receives an unexpected call from a solicitor that her sister has suffered a tragic accident and Cassie must come from Edinburgh to the Isle of Lewis where her sister was living to settle her estate. When she arrives, she is stunned to find that Isla has left behind a young daughter, Marina, for whom Cassie has been named guardian. Thrust into instant motherhood, Cassie knows she will do anything for this little girl who has quickly become her whole world. Unraveling her sister’s secrets leads her on a poignant journey of self-discovery, forgiveness and strength. This story touched my heart in so many ways. It was told with compassion and empathy and I know it is one I will not soon forget. Be sure to have some tissues ready and set aside a day because you will not want to put this down. I am grateful to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read and review an early copy.
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Child Between Us’ by Alison Ragsdale in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Five years after the disappearance of Cassie’s twin sister Isla, she receives a phone call from a solicitor saying that Isla has drowned on a beach near her home in Lewis on the island of Stornaway. Cassie arranges to travel there for the reading of Isla’s Will but receives the biggest surprise when she learns that Isla had a daughter, five-year-old Marina, and that she’s the child’s guardian. Just as Marina is becoming an important part of her existence, Cassie’s world is about to come crashing down and there’s nothing she can do to stop it.
‘The Child Between Us’ is the incredibly moving story of Cassie and her five-year-old niece Marina who changes the direction of Cassie’s life and brings untold joy to herself and her family. It’s a beautiful story that’s written with love, warmth and compassion, and from reading previous novels by this author I knew I’d need a box of tissues nearby, but even so I was totally unprepared for the ending which was moving, emotional, and had me in tears. I was so absorbed in the story that when I wasn’t reading I was thinking about it and my heartfelt thanks go to this talented author who’s given us such an amazing story that will stay in my thoughts for a long time to come.
This was an emotional read for me. It's been a long time since I have cried reading a book.
Cassie and Isla are twins, Isla introduced Grant who was a pre med student to her sister. Cassie ended up falling in love with Grant, they were engaged until he mysteriously broke off the engagement without reason. Several years pass and Cassie is a jewelry designer and 100% focused on her job until she gets a call from an Esquire that Isla has died. Cassie had been trying to find her sister for 5 years so this has put her life in a whirlwind of unanswered questions and to top it off she has been named the custodian of her sisters child, Marina who Cassie didn't know about.
Cassie is in a relationship with a musician who decided a father was not in the cards for him, she struggles to find balance knowing she wants the very best for her Marina who has become the center of her life. This story finds Cassie trying to discover the truth about her sister and answers to questions about her broken engagement with Grant. Just a wonderful story, and very heartfelt.
I loved this book and will order it for myself as well as a gift for someone special.
What I loved best about this book is how well it is written as it was a fast paced read. Alison Ragsdale is a new author for me and now my favorite.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I’m afraid I found this book far too saccharine for my tastes. In my opinion, there was to substance to it, just emotion. But thank you to the publisher for providing access to this ARC.
Alison Ragsdale can always be counted on to bring all the emotions to the surface. This story is another heartbreaker with lots of tender feelings threaded throughout.. The characters are fully developed, and you can easily become attached to them all. Lovely descriptions of the various places transport you away. Highly recommend!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
I have read every book by Alison Ragsdale and every time I am swept up into an emotional rollercoaster. This book doesn’t disappoint at all. The connection of the characters, story, having to all come together in such a moving way and so beautifully makes me always ready for the next book. I am always thrilled to see where the next book takes it’s readers.
I’ve enjoyed every book I’ve read by this author, but I truly think this may be my favorite!!!! This story is about heartache, betrayal, and forgiveness, but mostly about love. I had a hard time putting this book down and cried several times. Loved it.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from Bookouture and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own..
Heartbreak and impossible to put down.
Wow this book had me crying, laughing and wanting to read it fast to find out if it could possibly have a happy ending.
Two twins who do everything together are mysteriously separated when one leaves with no notice or information on where she is going. Five years later her sister passes away and she is called to settle the estate. She then finds out that there is a five year old child that has been left and she is to be her guardian. She is shocked as she knew nothing about it but can see her sister in this wonderful child as well as knowing something is clicking into her brain about other aspects of the child. Could she know the child's father?
So starts a long journey of discovery, hope, faith and love between a family that in the past has been torn apart.
This is a great story but be prepared for your emotions to be all over the range.
I received this book from Netgalley to give a fair and honest review and I have done that.
I always have to make sure that I have a whole day ahead of me before I start reading Alison’s gorgeous books, as once I start I cannot stop reading them, I am carried on an emotional rollercoaster and feel that I cannot walk away mid read from the characters and their situations.
This beautiful book was no exception, I was instantly drawn into the heart rending story.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers, so I will not discuss what occurs, just that you are given a story of lost love and second chances, that despite the heartbreaking moments, also fills you with hope and a mindfulness to live and enjoy the moment. It’s the little things that matter, and this story reinforces this point beautifully.
Alison Ragsdale has done it again, this book is so heart-rending, make sure you have tissues available as you read it.
Alison has a way of totally immersing you in the stories she writes. Her descriptions are so vivid, you can actually picture the places she writes about, and her characters feel like friends. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for my Advanced Reader Copy.
The story is about Marina 5 years old
I knew that you filled my heart up
On my life
This was the saddest book that I have read
I had an ARC
"The Child Between Us" is a heartbreaking, emotional captivating read. The book tells a story of heartbreak, grief, illness, acceptance, forgiveness, loss and most importantly family. It is an exceptional read that had me enticed from the beginning but the ending blew me away with a few tears being shed!
This book was a true surprise for me. I thought it was going to be an intense thriller or mystery. Instead I found an emotional story about a sister and her new-found responsibility. Cassie was a great character and I loved how I became invested in her life as a new mom to her twin's child. The relationship they form was beautiful. I thought the author did a fabulous job depicting a five year old that's dealing with loss and her new life with her aunt.
I read this book in a few hours because I was unable to put my Kindle down! It kept my attention and the author did a great job of describing the setting, the character's feelings and more! I was pleased with the outcome and how things were wrapped up in the end. Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to experience Alison Ragsdale's writing!
Vivid, expansive and richly imagined….. An absolutely heartbreaking and unforgettable read, perfect for fans of gripping family dramas, and for those who enjoy great storytelling.
Heartbreaking and tear jerking, I love Alison’s novels, they are so well written and she doesn’t shy away from difficult subjects. I loved it.
I was pulled into Cassie's story from the first page. As the story wove through emotions. I was on a roller coaster of a ride with them. The characters being drawn deeper into my heart. I felt as if I was right there with them . It was impossible to put the book down.
My heart was torn into so many pieces with each painful decision, change that had to be made. I had tears flowing and the tissue pile was building up beside me.
A truly poignant, sensitive and heartbreaking story.
This book and these characters will stay with me for a long time.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Alison Ragsdale for the opportunity to read this beautiful story.
One of my favourite authors, absolutely brilliant just couldn't stop reading about how this story developed, a beautiful, sad and heartbreaking read, well written as usual and all the characters were so well developed I just wanted to read more and more.
