4.5⭐

Detective Morgan Brookes is back with a rare weekend off ready to celebrate her birthday with boyfriend and boss Ben. When a black out happens and a body is discovered in a grave yard.

So with plans cut short. Ben and Morgan head to the crime scene and encounter a grisly site and a vicar who has a peculiar fascination with serial killers.

But surely he can't be the killer, can he?

And as Morgan, Ben and the rest of the team begin to investigate they find some odd coincidences. That Morgan is sure are connected.

And the body? Well that belongs to a seventeen year old from Blackpool. But how did she end up over eighty miles away in Rydal Falls?

But just as the team begin to answer that very question. Another girl disappears as does a member of the team. And as they scramble to find them both an order is given that sends those left reeling.

And with good pacing, twists, shocks and a killer I didn't expect. This was another great addition to the series and one I would happily recommend to others.

Silent Angel by Helen Phifer is the 7th in the Detective Morgan Brookes series.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Series Background:    (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books)
Morgan Brookes is living her dream.  She is a Detective Constable for Rydal Falls.  She works with her boyfriend, DS Ben Matthews, whom she recently moved in with.  Other members of the team include, DC Amy Smith and DC Des Black.  Their new boss is DI Mark Howard, and the jury is still out.  Their go-to Forensic Pathologist is Declan Donnelly.  After losing her mother,  Morgan finally got to know her dad, but Stan is now dead.  Meanwhile, she has learned that her biological father is a rapist and a killer.  Morgan's aunt Ettie is considered a "witch".

My Synopsis:    (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
A girl's body is found in the churchyard by the new Vicar.  She is identified as 16-year old Shea Wilkinson, who went missing 4 weeks ago.  The autopsy showed she's been dead for about 3 weeks, meaning the perpetrator kept her alive for at least a week.  The only other clues as to where she was held was the sand on her feet, and some flowers that were sprinkled over the body.

When another young girl goes missing, Morgan and the team are determined to find her before she too ends up dead.  But one of their team ends up missing as well, and questions abound.

My Opinions:
I really like this series, although  I am not sure where the author gets her titles from.

Morgan may be a little reckless, but her heart is definitely in the right place, and I like Ben, Cain and Declan. The characters make a good team.

The plot was well thought out, and the pace was fast.   Suspense continued to build throughout.  The ending was good, although I wish a few things had been rectified  (I'm not a fan of things being left hanging).  I do have a suspicion or two about where the plot is headed next, but I guess I have to wait.  I'm definitely looking forward to seeing if I am right.

Anyway, I'd definitely recommend this series.  The books are always a fast and entertaining read.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Silent Angel, the seventh novel to feature DC Morgan Brookes, set in the fictional Lake District town of Rydal Falls.

The body of seventeen year old Shea Wilkinson is found in the churchyard of Rydal Falls and what puzzles the team is that she disappeared a month earlier in Blackpool and has only recently been murdered. Where has she been? Then another girl disappears, this time from Rydal Falls, and Morgan is determined to find her before it’s too late.

I enjoyed Silent Angel, which is another tense, exciting read with some unexpected twists and turns. It is mostly told from the investigative point of view, after a prologue from the unnamed killer that sets out the M.O. and not much else and the odd interjection from the second victim, Milly. I like this approach as it gives the reader a good idea of what’s going on without destroying the suspense or mystery. It works well here with just enough information imparted to keep the reader hooked and uncertain about enough details to keep turning the pages.

The plot is hardly realistic, even the author refers to Rydal Falls as murder central, but then realism is not the goal, entertainment is and it does that job well. I actually found the side events more tense and compulsive than the hunt for Milly. There are several shocks for the team in this novel and they result in confusion and upset. I’m not going to say what they are as that would be a spoiler, but I’m looking forward to the next book to see how Morgan handles them - I want fireworks and mayhem as she fights.

Silent Angel is a good read that I can recommend.

Detective Morgan Brookes and Sergeant Ben Matthews are about to celebrate her birthday. However, a phone call to what turns out to be a gruesome murder scene interrupts their plans. Morgan is hit especially hard when she sees the barely identifiable corpse. Morgan, Ben and their colleagues begin interviews to try and see what they can do to identify the killer. One of those that are interviewed is a visiting vicar.

It doesn't take long for the body to be identified as a missing 17- year old teenager. As Morgan and the others work on this investigation, not only is the vicar on their radars, but they do wonder if perhaps the killer could be among their ranks. Perhaps more than ever before, Morgan can't help but to rely on her sixth sense when it comes to what is going on around them. When a tragedy that is too close to home happens, the Morgan and the others cannot help but be that much more vigilant.

One thing is for certain. This killer is smart and elusive. Then when another girl named Milly turns up missing, not only must Morgan work even harder to find the identity of the killer, but she must also strive to stay alive at the same time. Helen Phifer has kept this fabulous series strong with excellent stories and compelling characters and always leaves readers for a desire for more.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Silent Angel (Detective Morgan Brookes Book 7) by Helen Phifer is the 7th book in the series. I have read all 7 books. Silent Angel is a good addition to the book series and quite fast-paced.

When the body of a teenage girl is found in Rydal Falls’ churchyard, Detective Morgan Brookes abandons her own birthday to attend the scene. Another girl goes missing, a young nurse called Milly, with the same blonde hair and blue eyes as Shea. Morgan won’t rest until she has returned the kind, cheerful girl to her distraught parents.

This story really had me on the edge of my seat and kept me guessing until the final reveal of the culprit, which was quite surprising. The dynamics between the characters are well written, and each character is so different and dimensional.

A very good book and series. I would recommend starting from book 1 and getting on this rollercoaster of a book series ride. You will not be disappointed. I read this book in one day as I could not put it down until I knew the outcome. I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

Someone is killing young women. Morgan recognizes the circumstances and knows she looked for the killer previously, but didn't find him.
Bookouture and Net Galley let me read this book for review (thank you). It will be published September 28th.

Not only do they have a missing person that is his next victim, the person in charge of their group of cops is messing with them.

This is not an easy crime to solve. They work as they always have despite the mess the man in charge makes.

I was surprised at the killer. But he will get what he deserves.

It was an interesting read.

⏳Exciting chase, plenty of suspicious characters😟

I found Silent Angel a solid mystery with likable principal characters, a missing girl I really wanted to see rescued, and a nice urgency to get the case solved.

The basic plot kept me reading with just a few, short breaks and this murder/kidnapping criminal investigation had plenty of red herrings. With the surprises and the clock ticking to prevent another young woman's death, this was a good read. The police team and secondary characters were kept down to a number that I found it easy to follow.

I had not read earlier books in the series; despite the occasional oblique reference to a previous dangerous case, I enjoyed this story as a standalone. Will I read more Detective Morgan Brookes mysteries? Probably, because the writer combines easy reading with plenty of twists and surprises.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

thank you so much @netgalley, @bookouture and @helenphifer for the review copy! ❤️ it has been my pleasure to watch morgan grow as a person and a detective since book one. she went from being afraid of ben's admonishment to being his partner and one of the most important members of the group. i'm constantly in awe of what a humane and inspiring person she is. lovely souls ☀️

⚒️ title : silent angel.
(detective morgan brookes #7)
⚒️ author : helen phifer.
⚒️ genre : mystery.
⚒️ personal rating : ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5.

🌿 my thoughts 🌿 :

damn. here i was thinking that mystery books are getting boring and repetitive. i mean it's helen, so i knew i was in for a surprise but i didn't suspect that it would be so dark and horrifying!

morgan and ben have never been more out of their depth as they come face to face with a sinister killer, one who leaves no clue behind. the complexity of the cases reaches its peak when the theories point fingers to their old and trusted co-workers. with added pressure and threat on other lives, ben and morgan are more determined than ever to put an end to the killings. but as the intense amount of stress starts affecting their psychological and physical health, the probability of crumbling under pressure seems higher than that of success.

it was so good like one hell of a ride. please tell the next book is on the way or i don't know how i am going to survive. the narration is well-written, packed with shock after shock. i was at the edge of my seat until the very last moment. how do you guys do it? perfect every single detail? if i could, i would probably kiss you helen. after numerous occasions of skipped heart beats, falling tears and holding my breath in anticipation, i am bewildered. flabbergasted. dumbfounded. you must pick up this one! there are also several light-hearted moments and personal dramas which made it much much better. highly recommended ❤️✨

I requested this eARC on NetGalley thinking I wouldn’t be approved, because I had quite a few pending requests. Instead I was approved in less than 24 hours, which coincidentally was also the amount of time it took me to read Silent Angel. It felt like being trapped in a maze, you thought you found the exit but it just wasn’t it. Holy suspense, this book was incredibly well written and had me so curious from the very beginning, I loved the multiple POV that kept you guessing right up until the very end.

Silent Angel is the seventh installment of the Morgan Brookes series, I read it as a standalone and didn't have any issues. It was incredibly well-written and left a cliffhanger that hooked me on the series!

Another brilliant crime thriller from Helen Phifer.
I love this series and this is definitely one of my favourites.
With a body found in the grounds of the church, Morgan and Ben head out to investigate.
Morgan is meant to be having the weekend off for her Birthday but wants to help.
It’s not until they carry out the post mortem that they realise the body is that of a teenage girl, brutally murdered.
They realise she was abducted many miles away in Blackpool, so need to work out how she ended up here.
Another teenager soon goes missing and Morgan and the team know it’s a race against time to find her before it’s too late.
There’s a few shocks in store in this book which I definitely didn’t see coming.
A brilliant book, in a fantastic series.
One that I highly recommend.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Morgan is back again solving horrible murders. Life with Ben goes on, and otherwise her personal life is a bit more stable than it has been. A teenage girl has been murdered, soon another young woman goes missing. It is time to figure out who is behind these horrible crimes.

As always, the book is well written, and the plot is good. The words flow nicely on the pages and it is hard to let go of the book even for a second. Yet another enjoyable read in the series I hope will never end. I can't wait to read about what Morgan is up to next!

This is book 7 in the Detective Morgan Brooke’s series and the best so far.
When a young woman is found dead in a graveyard Morgan and Ben are called in to investigate, but then one of their colleagues goes awol, just as another young woman is abducted. Is it all connected and how. A real rollercoaster of a read. You will not put it down.

Detective Morgan Brookes #7

When the body of a teenage girl is found in Rydal Falls' Churchyard, Detective Morgan Brookes abandons her own birthday to attend the scene. In the dim evening light, Morgan can just make out the girl wrapped in a pristine white sheet and is certain she's been left here for them to find. The autopsy identifies the girl as sixteen-year-old Shea Wilkinson, and Morgan's heart cracks with sorrow. The beautiful teenager has been missing for weeks, could she have been suffering all this time? when she learns that the sand on her feet is from a nearby island, Morgan leaves immediately, determined to find the killers hiding place and stop them in their tracks.

This is one of my favourite police procedural series. The book is full of surprises, and we have some new members to the team. There's lots of suspects to choose from and, as usual, Morgan gets herself stuck with the killer. The pace is fast throughout. We have red herrings and twists to keep us guessing, and guess was all I did for most of the book. Morgan is a great detective, but she gets herself into some tricky situations. The ending was a little bit unexpected. This series just gets better with each new book.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #HelenPhifer for my ARC of #silentAngel in exchange for an honest review.

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Silent Angel’, book 7 in the Detective Morgan Brookes series by Helen Phifer, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

As DC Morgan Brookes and DS Ben Matthews are on their way out to celebrate her birthday, Ben’s phone rings and they’re called back to work as a body has been found in the churchyard at Rydal Falls. Twenty-four hours later care assistant Milly is walking home from the Church fete when she disappears. Morgan last saw her talking to Des, one of their colleagues, and when Des doesn’t turn up for work she fears the worst. Can they find Milly and Des before they become the killer’s next victims?

‘Silent Angel’ is the next instalment with DC Morgan Brooks and her boyfriend DC Ben Matthews and their likeable team. I like the character of Morgan who seems to collect more killers and dead bodies than any of her colleagues, inadvertently putting her own life at risk. This is an entertaining thriller that has its fair share of excitement, drama and suspense, and although I found the conclusion a bit of an anticlimax I nevertheless enjoyed the story which I found easy to read. Is there going to be an eighth in the series? I do hope so.

Silent Angel is another 5 star read in a 5 star series.

Morgan and Ben are racing against the clock as one girl is dead, one is missing and Morgan begins to suspect not people other than strangers.

The police procedure is faultless, Morgan is ruthless and takes way too many chances but that's what makes her Morgan.

The pages turn quickly, didn't have to leave the lights on to finish as I know now with a Helen Phifer book leave enough time to read it in one sitting.

Cant wait to see what Morgan gets up to next.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a nail biting read

Silent Angel is ten star quality never mind five!!. I loved it from start to finish, the characters Morgan, Ben and other members of the police team are well established solid parts of the series and you can tell !!.
The main frame of the story is great, but it's the other parts that bring the interest and life to the whole thing.
As you can tell. I read this story so much that I couldn't put the book down and read it even when preparing the evening meal!!.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the free ARC book for an honest review.
