This was a fast thriller , making you wonder what this family was hiding . It was a interesting plot! I would recommend!
Wow! It's been awhile since I read a book in one day. However, I devoured this one! A new couple moves into an exclusive London neighborhood with their young daughter Poppy. But all is not as it seems with this picture perfect family!
A well plotted and pacey domestic noir. Great plot and nicely developed if two dimensional characters. I recommend this book
For awhile this book was very slow for me but then it picked up over half way through.
Although I understand the author’s reasoning for starting each part from the beginning all over again, I just didn’t care much for that.
However, each part did have something new towards the end that kept me intrigued.
Overall it was a good read and I really did enjoy the ending.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
4.5 ⭐️
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Alison James for letting me read this wonderful book in exchange for my review.
I was hooked from the very start! The characters were all so well fleshed out, and had their own stories going on within the main storyline. I liked how the book was broken into parts so you heard from several characters points of view. I read this late into the night, unable to put it down, needing to find out what happened next. The ending was fantastic!
I’ve never read any books by this author before but now I’m very excited to do so!!!
I’ll happily recommend this book to my friends, and give this an easy 4.5 ⭐️
Richard and Stephanie Hamlin have hit the jackpot - winning a luxurious, coveted and fully-furnished house in Sycamore Gardens. Their new neighbour Jane excitedly knocks on their door to welcome them to the neighbourhood. Except the Hamlins don't want to be welcomed. They are abrupt and secretive, avoiding any friendly gestures from Jane and the other occupants of Sucamore Gardens.
But then Stephanie knocks on Jane's door. Can she help look after her daughter, just for a few hours? But she absolutely mustn't let her husband Richard know...
Why the lies? Why the secrecy? Why can't she just learn the truth about her new neighbours? As Jane pieces together information she learns about the couple, she realises they might not be all they seem. Maybe its better for her to not know after all. Her life could depend on it.
I really enjoyed this book. Having not read anything by this author before, I was pleased to find the characters are well-developed and I really enjoyed the shifts in point of view and chronology that helped the jigsaw pieces of the story come together.
The book tests the readers' emotional responses by forcing you to question who is a victim in this story and therefore deserving of our empathy.
A great narrative that unravels interestingly and captivatingly until the end.
Thank you Alison James, Bookouture and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book as an ARC for an honest and objective review.
Wowzers! What a book!! I was gripped and read until my kindle died. It’s a face paced thriller that keeps on pulling something new out the bag as the story unfolds.
A new couple win a house and move into an affluent area. It’s clear they don’t fit in and a Jane, a bored and rather nosy neighbour is keen to find out more about them, so does a bit of digging around. Her inquisitiveness gets her into quite a predicament as it becomes clear that their new neighbours are definitely not who they claim to be.
An excellent thriller that kept me gripped. I’ll definitely be looking out for more by Alison James. Easily a 5⭐️ book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this thrilling book 📚
This one fell flat for me. It just took too long to figure out what was going on and to get to know the characters.
A couple win a nice house in a lottery and then weird things ensue.
I love this authors books always gripping and addictive. Jane Headley is married to Fergus. they live in a very good area Sycamore Gardens Jane is bored with her job and her husband is not the same man anymore very distant a house on there close went up as a lottery prize. and the winners are moving in the neighbour s are very different some snobby and some good .but Jane things there something not right about the new owners and starts digging. but quite a few on this close have secrets and worried they will get out i so highly recommended this book
Great plot to get yourself lost in. This book has everything. A real fast paced thriller. Will get your heart racing on more than one occasion. Very well written. Highly recommend this book
The New Couple by Alison James was definitely a gripping story and I ended the book needing more.
Her characters are vibrant and alive, and tend to leap off the page and move into your life for the duration of the book. This, combined with her devious mind which conjures up intriguing mysteries, guarantees a read that just can't be put down. This book was packed with lies, deceit and an ending you’ll never predict.
This is a well written book, great characters and definitely a page turner which kept me on the edge of my seat all the way with a great ending.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
Bookouture,
Thank You for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
I will post my review to my blog, platforms, BookBub, B&N, Kobo and Waterstone closer to pub date.
I got an advance copy on NetGalley and I really enjoyed this book. It was a good and different plot. I liked that each few chapters was from a different character’s perspective. I didn’t love Liam’s chapters especially since the beginning of them seemed to be very repetitive of other characters points of view. This was a good thriller and I would recommend it and I would read future books by this author. Definitely a fast read. I sped through it!
Can you say that you truly know your neighbors? This was a truly wild ride full of good twists and turns.
I’d like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. The premise of this book caught my eye so I was excited to read it, unfortunately the book was too slow and I struggled connecting with it.
While the book got off to a good start and I was intrigued by what the new couple on the street could be getting up to, I didn’t enjoy the fact the story split in 4 and you reverted to the start all over again, it would have been much faster paced if simply told by Jane
Did I love this book? No. Did I stay up past my bedtime to finish it anyways? Yes. The story was great, and I loved how it was split into sections with each character getting their own point of view of how things happened. I was just thrown by there supposedly being a shocking twist, but there wasn’t one? And I also felt like the end was kind of rushed. If you want a quick thriller read, this is great, if you want one with a twist, not so much.
This was one of those easy read that completely draws you in and makes you shut the world out for a few hrs. Really well written and with plenty twists and turns to keep you guessing. Nothing too clichéd so even if you are a massive thriller or domestic noir fan, this will still hit the spot n not just feel like deja vous
A roller coaster ride of a thriller that will keep you guessing until the last page. Couldn’t read to read this book and I wasn’t disappointed. The characterization was amazing and easy to relate to and the plot was even better.
A quick and easy read that I read in one short sitting. Well written with a good level of pacing, well developed characters and a story that kept me engaged all the way through.
Loved this!
Stephanie and Richard find themselves in the enviable position of winning a house in a lottery. It is beyond what they could possibly have dreamed of and they are excited to be moving in with their baby daughter Poppy
The house is in an exclusive close in a London suburb. . The neighbours are a bit dubious as to whether the new family will fit in but are prepared to give them a chance.
Jane in particular welcomes the new couple but becomes convinced they aren’t what they are pretending to be.
It appears lots of people have secrets to hide and some of them deadly.
