3.5-4 stars
The ninth book in the Widow’s Island series was a fast read, easy to visualize, and kept me intrigued. This is a new author for me, and I jumped into the series without prior knowledge of any of the other books. Even though I knew I was missing pieces due to characters already being in a relationship, I didn’t feel lost and feel this is a great stand-alone book.
Cate and Henry reside in a small town. Henry being the local doc, and Cate recently retiring from the FBI, and now owns the local bakery. Their lives are turned upside down, when Henry is missing. The story revolves around his kidnapping, what lead up to this point, and ultimately his rescue. Packed with suspense and easy to follow. I wished it had a bit more teeth/depth to it but overall enjoyed the read.

I'm sad that the Widow's Island series is almost at its conclusion. I've loved the stories written alternately by Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot. They would make an excellent TV series (hint hint to any TV people out there!

This time around we are back with Cate, former FBI agent and now a baker and bookstore owner. She loves her new life on Widow's island and has her wedding to the town's doctor, Henry to look forward to. But her former skills are going to be needed once more when Henry is kidnapped from his surgery!

Henry is not an action herp but he holds his own when he is abducted by two men to treat another's gunshot wound. He knows from the details he has been given that the patient won't make it without a hospital but they refuse to take him to one. Now he'll have to rely on his wits and medical training to keep his patient and himself alive until Cate and the Cavalry can get there.

The authors are great at interspersing past details in the series into the current book. You don't feel bogged down in fodder if you have read the other books but there is enough that if you have missed one or this is your first read in the series you can understand where you are.

Well plotted and freat paced, it takes place over only a few days. There is no spice in these stories as such but the romance is still there and I loved the total belief in the other that Henry and Cate have. The other characters; Tessa, Logan, Patience, Jane, etc all make a small appearance and help to tie the stories together.

I read an advance reader copy of this book via Netgalley and all thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.

Bone Deep is the ninth novella in the Widow Island Series. It is shared between Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot. Both authors tell the story from different points of view yet can intertwine the story lines in such a way as to provide a continuous narrative. Even if you have not read the preceding books, you will not be lost as both authors provide background information. However, I would strongly recommend reading them for the simple reason that they are worth the time and effort. This is a quick but satisfying read, and although it is short in pages, there is plenty of action to keep you turning the pages. Looking forward to reading the next installment. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

I read the one after this first, but it didn't ruin my enjoyment. A quick book to read when you don't have much time, but want a full plot. I'm going to have to invest in the earlier books in the series to find out the stories of all the characters, though, to me, the two I've read could also be standalone reads

I loved this story and can’t wait to continue the series. This is the 9th book and they are all short reads.

Cate Wilde is a former FBI agent who now owns a bakery and bookstore on Widow’s Island, located off the coast of Washington state. Her fiancé, Dr. Henry Powers was kidnapped by two men who need him to attend to the wound of a gunshot victim.
It turns out the men are bank robbers, wanted for murder. Cate will assist the FBI and her deputy best friend, Tessa, in the search for Henry. Some unexpected news makes it even more important that Henry is found. Will they be able to rescue him?

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I once again started a series way out of order... that's okay. Kendra Elliot has a way with words, characters, stressful situations, and just a plethora of other tools to write her novels to perfection. I really enjoyed the situation of Bone Deep and love how the tense situations made the reader want more. I will definitely go back and read this series from the beginning. This is good suspense here, that's for sure.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Two men kidnap local physician, Dr. Henry Powers, at gun point from his office and it sends all of Widow’s Island into a desperate search to find him. All former FBI agent Cate Wilde wants is to get her fiancé back and prepare for their upcoming wedding. With the help of her friends, family and old FBI connections, they start the hunt to bring Henry home. They soon discover that Henry has been taken by bank robbing brothers who are desperate and violent. This is a great read and a good addition to the Widow’s Island series.

Bone Deep by Kendra Elliot is a fast-paced novella with solid action and well-developed characters. A good place to start to introduce a reader to this series. However, reading the afterward by the author, this may be the last of this series.

When two men kidnap former FBI agent Cate Wilde’s fiancé, the boldness of the crime rattles the community. Desperate to find the man she loves, Cate joins forces with the FBI and the local sheriff’s department to launch an investigation and bring Dr. Henry Powers home.

Bone Deep is a solid novella that I would recommend.

In the interest of full disclosure, this Novella (which I believe may be near the end of the series, based on comments in another review) is my first time reading any of the stories in this series. That said, as a stand-alone book I didn’t feel lost or disconnected, if anything this book did a great job of introducing me to the authors style, as well as a few characters that I really want to go back and learn more about. It was obviously a quick read but I felt like a great job was done covering a lot of ground in not a lot of words.

Fast paced novella that is part of a series but that only made me want to binge read some of the others in series. There's local sheriff deputy, ex-FBI, current FBI, bank robbers who don't care who they kill but abduct a physician to save their doomed brother. In the background is family and friends who live on Widow's Island in the San Juan Islands of western Washington state. Intense!

4* As long as you start these novellas knowing everything happens over less than a week, they're excellent reads!

I've not read every single novella in this two-author series but it's not hard to get into them and pick up who's who and what's been happening in the lives of the characters. Although from the ending of this and the tale out next week, and the afterwords by the authors, I suspect that the series has come to an end. A lovely one for both of the female protags.

There's action and adventure and danger and romance in a short tale that takes place over a couple of days, ending in a delightful discovery and surprise event. It's lovely to see what a community there is on this small island and I will miss visiting!

This was one non stop adventure.

Henry is kidnapped by two men and it’s a race to find him before he ends up dead.

“We’ll bring Henry back,” Tessa said. “I promise.”

Cate is frantically trying to hold it together while they search for who took him and where they are hold up.

This was a super fantastic short story. I couldn’t put it down.

Two men are desperate and kidnap Henry, a Dr on widows Island, and the fiancée of retired FBI agent Cate. The search is on for the kidnappers with very few clues. Will they find them in time to save Henry? The descriptions make you feel like you are on the island and the suspense will keep you turning the pages. This is a novella in the Widows Island with alternating books with Melinda Leigh. It is well written with a good story line. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Another good novella in this series of ten books and this one, number nine, will be published 18th October 2022. It's well written with lots of suspense. Our hero, doctor and medical examiner Henry, is kidnapped from his surgery by armed men so he can save their friend who has been shot. There's a mad rush on Widow's Island by the local police, his fiancee Cate and the FBI to find him, before his time runs out. Any background re characters is briefly explained as the story goes along, so it could be read as a stand alone, though I'd advise to read from the beginning because the series is worth doing so. My thanks go to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for the eARC in return for my opinion. An excellent story packed in a shorter package.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this book in return for a fair and honest review.

This is a novella and took me about 2.5 hours to read. I found the book gripping and really enjoyed it. I have read the other books in the series and so really felt that I knew the characters. I would definitely recommend reading the books in order as this builds on the characters and you understand the history between them and their back stories.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Cate and Henry are engaged to be married later in the year. She's used to having to wait on him to finish seeing patients or taking him dinner when he's running late, but what's she's not used to is him being missing.

So when she arrives with his dinner at the clinic and he's gone she immediately calls Tessa. Julie provides as much information as possible and everything they find out is bad.

Read this book to find out if they find Henry, and if they do what shape will he be in and can he stay alovid that long? Will there be a December wedding?

Bone Deep is another hit out of the park for Kendra Elliot. It continues with the Widow Island series. Cate Wilde a former FBI agent who is now a shop owner on the island. The book starts off action packed with Cate's fiancé's abduction. It doesn't really slow down till the end. I really have enjoyed the few books I have read in this series, that I now am going to go back and read them all in order. Thank you to Montlake and the author for the opportunity to read an advanced copy through NetGalley. As always my reviews are only influenced by the books/stories themselves.
