Rosa is devastated at the thought of losing her beloved gran Jocelyn, and when her gran asks her to take a trip for her and keep it secret, Rosa knows she will do it. In her younger days Jocelyn spent a week in Tintagel, Cornwall and she wants Rosa to go there to find some answers.
And as Rosa carries out her wishes she finds some answers of her own.
A great book for curling up and losing yourself in the magic of Cornwall.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A really good read. I thoroughly enjoyed this story loved the setting in Cornwall it was bought to life by the Author. When Rosa's beloved grandmother tells her about a love affair that she had with Jory and never got over she wants her to go and find out the truth of what happened to him. Rosa has a gift of second sight which she had to suppress due to her father's lack of belief but as she visits the place where Jory lost his life. A story of friendships love and healing which will keep you wanting to read more.
Oh my, heart-breaking and beautiful in equal measures. Rosa is requested by her Gran to complete a journey to Cornwall and discover the mystery surrounding the death of the man she loved. Whilst on this journey Rosa manages to discover a long forgotten secret that she can commune with the dead which had been buried in her memory and romance. The book has beautifully descriptive passages about the Cornwall coastline and Tintagel, makes you dream of summer holidays.
This book was a joy to read. It has everything that I like in a book, characters of varied ages, relatable situations, beautiful scenery descriptions, a bit of a spiritual theme and of course a happy ending. Rosa wants to carry out her grandmother’s last wish and return to Tintagel, in Cornwall, where she met and left her true love. This is a shock to Rosa, as she had never heard of this time in her grand’s life previously. She agrees, and that this where the story begins.
The plot was well thought out and flowed easily. Although some things are a bit unbelievable, I can let go and just experience the story as it was written and meant to be. I want to believe all that happens can be true in real life, and maybe it can.
I have read three other of Amanda James’ books and all of them had this mystical element. I find that delightful. Just a caution to those readers that cannot open their minds to believe, they might not like that part of the book. I feel if readers can escape into science fiction, dystopia or fantasy, reading a book with a bit of mystical talent or sixth sense would be easy.
Thank you to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for giving me the pleasure of reading the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.
Rosa's beloved grandmother is dying and Rosa goes to spend time with her. Her grandmother has one last request, she wants Rosa to visit Tintagel where she met and lost a love many years ago.
Rosa doesn't really understand why but her gran tells her things will be clearer when she gets to Tintagel.
Rosa is then asked to believe the unbelievable while also finding out secrets from her childhood that she had buried deep inside herself. There is an interesting distraction when she meets Cornish man Talon who Rosa is attracted too but how can she keep everything that's happening a secret from him, and will he understand ?
I love these books by Amanda James. All her books come with a touch of Cornish magic. I was swept along with Rosa as she learns more about the spiritual world and asks herself if she believes. This is one of these books that captivate you from the beginning straight through to the last page. There are some lovely descriptive sentences in the book which I'll remember for a long time..Such is Amanda's writing that you too will find yourself believing at the end.
I enjoyed Amanda James' book the Forgotten Beach, and The Secret Keeper is written in the same beautiful way.
Rosa heads off to Tintagel to fulfil the last wish of her Grandmother as she lies waiting to take her last breaths. She arrives, emotional and sceptical,
But, something in the air gets to her, as she begins to sense and see things she wouldn't usually believe. The addition of the mysterious, but handsome Talen, adds to the mystery.
What a beautiful love story, or rather two; one tragic and one a blossoming one, with plenty of ups and downs.
I really don't want to give much away, but the story involves some folklore, spirits, and a whole lot of belief.
I loved it.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for an ARC
Rosa is looking after her grandmother who is ill. Her grandmother tells her a story about a lost love and asks Rosa to travel to Tintagel to find out what happened to the man she left behind.
I enjoyed the beginning of this story but I think it lost its way half way through and I began to lose interest near the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins, One More Chapter for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review
I love books like this and this one was no exception, well written with a storyline that drew me in right from the start and didn't let me go. I loved it,
The Secret Keeper by A. James, published by One More Chapter/ Harper Collins UK, is a full length, stand-alone.
This beautiful slow burn had me right from the start. I loved the mystery part, the history repeats itself part, the beautiful, excellent written story.
Rosa and Talan are part of something truly magnificent.
I recommend the book, 5 stars.
