I found this book a little slow in the beginning, but it's worth sticking with as it does start speeding up. The plot was different and I definitely did not see that ending coming. The characters were described well along with their emotional reactions. Once I got stuck into reading it, I enjoyed it
There ar elite of twist and turns in this book and it did take a few pages to get into it but it is worth it. I enjoyed it. Good afternoon read !
With thanks to Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This was a good standard thriller with a few twist and turns that were enjoyable. At times the story dragged a little but the plot picked up halfway through the book and I stayed up late to finish. Recommend to anybody who likes thrillers that are easy to read.
I didn't feel it in the first few chapters but then it hit me, I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! It is my favorite book of all time. I read a ton of books, so believe me you want to read this one.
Excellent story telling with amazing details. I don't want to give anything away, but it has intrigue, mystery, intense emotion, family ties, and a little something for every book reader. It was so much more than I expected from a general fiction book. It deserves a genre of its own! And that ending........ holy crap!!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
i was hooked straight away with the story of rose and will, i’m not normally a thriller reader but the storyline drew me in from the first page. so much suspense and so many twists that i never saw coming.
a 5 out of 5 from me and will definitely recommend this book to friends
When Will disappears during the night shift, Rose is told to take over his position. She is suffering from personal problems, brought on by a drunken co worker during a work event, which affects her relationship with her fiance. She investigates Will's disappearance.
A surprising thriller, as the reader is left in the dark as Rose pieces things together. Lots of twists and confusion due to Rose's state of mind.
This book was a little bit slow for me and at times it felt a bit disjointed too. I wasn't the biggest fan and didn't particularly enjoy it. But that's only my opinion others might love it.
Firstly, thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for allowing me to read this as an ARC! Now, on to the review:
What Happened on Floor 34 is a mystery/thriller novel about a suspiciously missing journalist and the obsession of one of their fellow journalists to find out what happened to them.
To avoid spoilers this is going to be deliberately vague but: an event that happens involving our main character causes a downward spiral into obsession when her co-worker mysteriously goes missing. Convinced solving the case will help her solve her own unresolved feelings regarding her own experience, she devolves rapidly and eventually completely shuts everyone out of her seemingly picture perfect life.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was written well and had some GREAT twists which are so important in a thriller novel. I actually had visceral reactions to a few of the revelations that happened during the course of the book.
Once you read the book this review may make me a bit monstrous BUT this is an honest review. I did not like the main character. I could not fully comprehend her willingness to become obsessed about this case nor her stubbornly refusing to communicate with her fiance or family who, the book makes it obvious, love her very much and want her to be happy. Her experience is one I cannot relate to however and therefore I cannot say how I would react in a similar situation. I found her unwillingness to accept help from others who so obviously wanted to help her to be very frustrating.
What Happened on Floor 34 was a good read for those who enjoy mysteries and thrillers.
This one missed the mark for me. Although well written and descriptive, it was slow to get going; I struggled to keep engaged with the storyline.
Thank You to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to view this ARC.
I was really looking forward to this book and it got off to a good start but then I began to struggle and lost interest in the storyline unfortunately and was glad when I got to the end.
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon Books for this ARC.
this book took me a while to get into, but I'm glad I stuck with it. There are so many surprising twists and turns that I couldn't anticipate what was going to happen next!
thank you to the author and publisher for providing this ARC on netgalley for me to review
This book was everything I wanted it to be. It had me turned pages without even realizing. It was so good!
While the description of this interested me, the story however, did not. While I tend to love slow burns, this was a little too slow and then throws in twists that makes it seem as if it's trying too hard. I couldn't relate to nor did I like the protagonist. She was too unreliable and the pity that the author tries to make you feel for her just makes you annoyed instead. I hate negative reviews so I'll leave it at that. The idea was there, the delivery was not.Two Stars.
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon Books UK for this ARC.
It’s hard to recommend a book when you absolutely despise the main character. When most of the book is spent listening to the main character, Rose, stubbornly keep trying to please others, not take care of her own mental health, and constantly self-deprecate, it is hard to want to keep reading.
Overall, the slow plot, the many plot twists thrown at the end of the book, and the main character just ruined what could have been a great concept.
Despite a great premise that sounded like it would be an original type of thriller, I fou d this one to feel like any number of unreliable narrator stories I have read in the last couple years.. it was fine. But nothing about it stood out for me either in characterization, plot, or twists....
I really struggled with this. The first several chapters felt like the author wasn't quite sure what kind of story they were writing. And then the writing style irked me. There were unexpected twists and sudden turns which I enjoyed but they didn't hit as hard because the main character was so frustrating. I think she was meant to be unreliable, but she came off unlikable. All in all, not my cup of tea. But it has potential.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from Avon Books UK and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
A wild ride full of suspense, twists and turns.
This was such a good read that gripped me right from the start and kept me hooked all the way through. Twisty, tense and atmospheric I just couldn't put it down.
Many thanks to #NetGalley and #Avon books for an advance copy of #WhatHappenedOnFloor34.
Thus book had me gripped and just when I thought I was getting the swing of it, there was another twist in the story. Excellent mind blowing book.
The plot starts strong, but after struggling through the first two poorly written chapters, I gave up. Despite wanting to find out what happens, the poor grammar, punctuation, and word choices were too much to overcome.
I want to give it no stars.
