It took me a bit of time to get into this one. The characters were unlikable and made some very odd choices. On the plus side, once it picks up, there were plenty of twists and surprises. The ending was ok. Overall, this was a quick read and pretty entertaining.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Bookouture for a copy in exchange for a review.
The Family Home is a thriller that starts with a bang and keeps a good pace throughout making this an easy and enjoyable read.
Lillian and Mathew were once the golden couple but after a night where something happened they are now the golden couple of divorcees, handling their break up amazingly, that much so that they share custody of their daughter in one house and when the other isn’t the carer for that day they live in a apartment, so separate lives but very much together. After their daughters birthday party it is Lillian’s time to go to the apartment whilst Mathew stays at the family home. Lillian goes out for the night with Mathews girlfriend and on return falls asleep on the sofa, in the middle of the night she gets up to go to bed but discovers a murdered body in her bed, she has to think on her feet as there are secrets she shares with Mathew that can’t get out as they would both be ruined, how will she do this?
This was a great book with decent characters and a solid storyline, I enjoyed this from start to finish. I haven’t read anything by Miranda Smith that I haven’t enjoyed and think this may be my favourite.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.
Lillian and Matthew have managed to come up with the best idea for divorce with a child. By sharing the family home they can give their daughter stability. When it's not their turn to stay at the family home they have an apartment, each with their own room where they stay.
When a dead body is found in Lillian's bed at the apartment, a guy she dated, it puts everything and everyone in doubt. Who can be trusted?
It also brings back a terrible secret from the past....
Overall a great read. I'd definitely be interested in reading more work by the author.
This book started off very strong for me. It was a easy and a quick page turner. But then I didn't know what happened. In the middle of the book I started to lose my interest. And the ending dissapointed me a lot. The book didn't woow me at all and it feels like I have already read a thriller with the same story before. Unfortunately this book just wasn't for me. But I think a lot of people will like this one.
This book was really fun, and I had a hard time figuring out who the villain was. I liked the book, I couldn't even sleep at night because of it until I got to the end. I was excited about who was guilty. The Family Home by Miranda Smith is a wonderfully twisted read that had me guessing throughout. So many times I thought I knew the answers to questions that kept rising in my head only to be completely wrong! An addictive story that will have you turning the pages well into the night!
This was a very good heart pounding book. I was very immersed in it and loved every minute. I couldn’t stop.
From the outset, it was tough to fathom the premise of this book. Why inthe world would these two stay together, given the often referenced but not defined 'circumstance' ? I understand it is an often useful literary tool, to constantly refer to what had happened, and how critical it was without saying what actually happened. Initially it is ok, but it gets very tiresome.
I persevered, just to find out what the hell did happen and why things are such a huge mess.
To be honest, not sure it was worth the work.
None of the characters seem particularly sympathetic, which made it even harder to really invest in their outcome, other than the little girl.
The family home is a fast paced thriller. I loved the multiple pov and found myself unable to put it down. The ending was also as good as the rest of the book, which is a rarity with this genre. An excellent book and highly recommended.
I enjoyed this book. It was spun with webs of lies, murders and deceit.
The characters are Lillian and Matthew, a divorced couple with a daughter who have a very interesting relationship. They share custody, and their home, and an apartment, for the sake of their child.
When Lillian discovers a dead body in the apartment, an investigation begins.
Of course, Lillian and Matthew share some very dark secrets of their own. The rest gradually unfolds in a big twist!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC edition.
4 1/2 stars!
Oh my! Such a really great book! I love how quickly it moved along and with all of the lies and deceit throughout, it just kept me wanting more! I loved the POV of Lillian and Matthew between chapters. Also, there were quite a few characters that it really kept you guessing how the story was going to unfold.
I was completely surprised by the ending as I never even came close to figuring it out.
My Synopsis:
Lillian and Matthew on one fateful night were involved in a horrible accident. Over the next few years their marriage starts to dissolve due to it. Although divorced they remained amicable for their daughter's sake. They set it up that Mabel stayed in their family home with Lillian and Matthew sharing the home and an apartment.
As Matthew has moved on, Lillian was having a hard time with the dating scene and so had joined an online dating service.
One night after a fun birthday night with a friend, Lillian fell asleep on her couch, when she wakes up she heads to bed, only to find a dead body in her bed. It was a guy she barely knew, they went on 2 dates. Why and how did this happen? So many questions.
As the detectives and police try and piece everything together, Lillian and Matthews life turns into utter chaos.
Make sure to grab a copy to find out what happened to Lillian and Matthew during their marriage, how a guy Lillian dated ended up dead in her bed, and who caused all of the turmoil in their lives.
Again, this was a really great book. I totally recommend checking it out.
Wow those was chillingly page turning. A fast paced, twisty thriller. Loved loved loved. A wonderfully tense and suspenseful qnd addictive read. I very highly recommend this one.
Great cover and the description sounded very good but it wasnt as good as I had hoped. Still worth a read and I will look out for other books by this author.
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this ARC
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Read if you like:
- twisty thrillers
- height-of-action opening scene
- ex husband/wife dynamic
This book starts with my favourite format for a thriller/mystery: It starts with the very height of the excitement and then quickly cuts back in time to tell the whole story of what happened to get to that very first chapter. I absolutely love this format as it’s literally impossible not to get gripped and drawn in right from the very beginning.
The concept for this book was one I haven’t seen before! Lillian and Matthew are divorced but still live in the same house/apartment, just alternating days to allow their daughter to stay in one house. Lillian went on 2 dates with Carl, and then he’s found dead in Lillian’s bed after a wild night that Lillian can’t quite recall… She couldn’t have killed Carl though she would have remembered surely?? What was Carl hiding with his double life?? What was Carl doing in her bed??
I very much enjoyed reading this book, and I did not see the ending coming! I absolutely love that. I kept thinking I knew what the twist was and then I was completely wrong everytime 🤪
There was a lot of dramatic things happening throughout this book… no filler here! A truly enjoyable thriller I would recommend to any thriller/mystery lover out there!
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for an honest review 💕
I was really excited about starting this one! The cover and synopsis grabbed my interest immediately. However, I just didn’t love this book. I didn't quite like either of the main characters, and I found it slow.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Miranda Smith for providing me an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was very engaging and kept me on my toes. I definitely did not expect the ending, it was a big surprise!
Maybe I am just not cut out for thriller/mysteries anymore?
Shortly into The Family Home I started getting annoyed with the characters. I got it, there was some secret they shared - I did not need it to be mentioned at the very end of every short chapter. While I did enjoy the back and forth narrative of Lillian and Matthew, even that grew to be irksome as both quickly became pretty unlikeable. I did not guess the ending, because it just didn’t feel like it worked for me. The shocking twist at the end just fell flat, and seemed to be more about the *gasp!* factor than the actual facts that were spread throughout.
Anywho, I’m sure many people will thoroughly enjoy this, and it was indeed a quick read. But I’ll just say out of those to two attributes, I enjoyed it being a quick read.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this title.
This was a very intriguing book. Miranda makes her books so easy to read and follow. The characters in this storyline were likeable and relatable. I thought that I had the culprit figured out, but I was wrong. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how Lillian would prove her innocence and find the real murderer.
Lillian and matthew have an usual relationship after their divorce. They both live in the same house with their young daughter and even though her ex now has a new grilfriend it is all very friendly.
When Lillian wakes up after a night out and finds a man dead in her bed her life is turned upside down. Her hubby believes she didn't do it even when everyone and everything point to her.
Lillan and her ex have a very huge dark secret that they want to keep hidden, especially from the police. They think that their past is coming back to haunt them and that someone also knows what they did all those years ago.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
What a twist 🤯 there were so many twists and turns throughout which kept me reading near enough constantly. I was desperate to find out what happened which is always a good way to enjoy a book. I absolutely devoured it.
First of all thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read an ARC for an honest review of this book.
This was a good mystery whodunit with several twists to the story. Just when I though I had figured things out and who I thought was responsible for everything happening to Lillian, another twist would occur. I felt connected to the characters and the storyline kept me wanting to read on to find out who and why. I really enjoyed the twist at the end and also liked how it all came together and ended the way it did. Sometimes things just happen for a reason. I look forward to reading more books by Miranda Smith and I hope you enjoy this one!!
