Thank you to Netgalley and publisher for access to this ARC.
I flew through this in under 24 hours; a fast and easy read with an interesting concept. Now you may be thinking “well why only two stars?”, so here are my reasons.
An intriguing premise that seemed original, but the storytelling and overall plot was nothing new. It was like reading every other mediocre thriller I’ve came across. There was no real shock, suspense, or stakes. It was just flat. The outcome to the ‘whodunnit’ just felt convenient. The characters were frustrating and not to mention the hints of something awful/obvious at the end of each chapter - I understand something bad has happened in the past once it’s been mentioned at the end of one chapter. I don’t need to be reminded repeatedly.
A read that kept me rolling my eyes and has left a sour taste in my mouth. Unfortunately it’s a no for me.

The Family Home is an intense thriller about who to trust and who really are the people closest to you.
The story follows Lillian and Matthew who are divorced and have an unconventional way of co-parenting. Their daughter Mabel stays in their family home while Lillian and Matthew switch out taking turns living the off time at an apartment they also share. When a man is found dead in Lillian’s bed in the apartment, she doesn’t know who to trust anymore.
The story is very well written. I enjoyed the alternating POVs and the plot was unique. It kept me very intrigued and every time I thought I had it figured out, there was a twist. The book twists keep coming all the way to the final sentence!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review!
OmG this was just amazing!I was hooked from the start and I can't even begin to tell you all the great things about this book. But this is a review so I will still try to mention some. The writing style is just so easy and has a natural flow to it. The plot is kept moving onwards and is always progressing.t here's no filler paragraphs or 2 pages dedicated to rambling about completely pointless things. The characters are well fleshed out and made into real people with real problems and they don't make stupid choices just for the sake of the plot. It was amazing and I'd recommend to any thriller fan
I absolutely loved this book. Engrossing story and even more engrossing characters. You’re absolutely going to love this book from the first page to the epic conclusion.
Lillian and Matthew once had the perfect marriage, but now they’re amicably divorced and sharing an unconventional living arrangement. Instead of shuttling their little girl Mabel between houses, Mabel stays in the family home while Lillian and Matthew swap places between the home and a shared apartment when it’s their turn for parenting time. Things are going along swimmingly until Lillian comes back to the apartment after Mabel’s birthday party and finds a man in her bed. A man she dated. That’s past tense, because this man is deader than a doornail and there’s blood everywhere – and only Lillian and Matthew have keys to the apartment. Suddenly, Lillian doesn’t know if she can trust Matthew… or anyone else in her inner circle.
Miranda Smith has written an absolute banger of a psychological thriller! I was hooked from the get-go and torn between racing to the end or savoring every page! This is an impossible to put down, don’t start it before bedtime kind of book. The suspense is spot-on, I felt like I was privy to Lillian’s innermost thoughts and felt just as off-balance about whether or not to trust Matthew. As a thriller lover, being surprised by plot twists is the best feeling ever, and “The Family Home” definitely delivers. This story kept me guessing the entire time – about the identity of the dead man, about the characters’ secrets in the past, and most of all, trying to guess who the killer was. I always try to guess whodunit, but guess what – I WAS WRONG!!!
Highly recommended for fans of thrillers and domestic suspense! Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me an advance copy of this book.
My Review:
Loved, loved and more loved!!!!! This author is by far one of my favorites and is the Queen of Suspense in my eyes. This book definitely proved why I think that. Her books always have me hooked from the first chapter and they always leave me guessing the whole way through. I get so lost in them and lose track of time so easily. One minute I am having breakfast then the next minute it is time to make dinner. I know when I pick up one of her books I will not set it down until I’m finished so I have to make sure I have no distractions at all costs. I don’t know what more you can ask for from a book. Now let’s talk a little about the book. As soon as I read the blurb I knew I had to read this one. You wake up to find a dead body in your bed. You can’t remember what happened or how he got there. Wow, wow, wow!!!!! This said to me I want to find out more and what the heck happened. I know I would be utterly shocked and confused if I were in this same situation. Oh and I don’t even get me started on the characters. Every one of them had something to hide and you didn’t know who to trust or what to believe. By the end everyone was looking guilty of something to me. Now on to that shocking ending that made me go OMG. I almost had a heart attack. I would’ve never figured that one out in a million years. Miranda Smith, I can’t wait to read more books by you.
In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The perfect marriage dissolves into a nightmare, after one single night changes everything for Lillian and Matthew, but unfortunately that isn’t the end of it.
Lillian and Matthew are now divorced, but they remain friends for the sake of their daughter Mabel. It’s directly after Mabel’s sixth birthday party that Lillian returns to her apartment after a few drinks, and falls asleep on the sofa. When she wakes in the early hours and drags herself off to bed, she discovers a man in her bed, and it’s someone she’s dated just a couple of times. But how on earth did he gain access to her apartment, and why is he stone cold dead and covered in blood!
Under the veneer that some ordinary suburban family life resembles, there is often shadow as we ask ‘do we know who our family members really are, what they are capable of ?’ The same goes for those family friends who we love unconditionally, the ones that blur the line between friend and family - who are they really?
Tension reigns throughout, with murder, mystery and suspense that keeps the reader turning the pages, to see just where this whole sordid mess will lead!
What a brilliantly plotted, pacy, twisted read!
The Family Home by Miranda Smith is a real rollercoaster of a story, full of twists I didn't see coming.
The character development throughout the story was fantastic.
The twists and turns as well kept me completely hooked.
This really is a perfect book to read if you need to become engrossed in something.
I read this book in one sitting, it grabbed my attention and kept me turning the pages 'for just one more chapter'. I eventually finished at 3am!
I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed.
And Smith knows how to write some captivating stories.
This was a fantastic read which also had me on the edge of my seat.

🤫👨👩👧 The Family Home by Miranda Smith 👨👩👧🤫
Thank you Net Galley for this deliciously addictive ARC!
I read the book in one sitting because I simply could NOT look away. Everything about this story was perfect - the pacing, nail biting suspense, and the depth of characters.
I loved Lillian’s support network at the start of the story. It is unusual for a woman to still get on with her ex husband and his new girlfriend but it was refreshing to read and actually made the story more enjoyable.
Although there are male characters in this story who are unfaithful and abuse women (trigger warning) the focus of this book is female empowerment and friendship.
I seriously loved this one!! And I audibly gasped when the ending was revealed. Totally unexpected but it all flowed naturally and was not forced.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great book! Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. A unique story in which a divorced couple share a home and an apartment for their daughter's sake. A secret from two years ago keeps them twisted together. Secrets come out, a dead body is found in the bedroom, and friends turn out to not be friends. who is out to get them? I powered through this book. Great suspense and a twist at the end I did not see coming.
Another great book from Miranda! I have actually been working on reading all her previous books and have one left! This book takes a divorced couple with secrets who are sharing the family home for their daughter. Their shared secret comes out when a body is found in the apartment. They start to doubt each other and wonder if perhaps the other one is out to get them. Relationships with friends are blown apart and shocking twists come at the end. I def did not have this one figured out!
Amazing book you want be able to put down once you start reading it. Looking for a great thriller with great characters check out The Family Home by Miranda Smith you wouldn't regret it.
Lillian and Matthew are a couple who split their time between the family home and an apartment so their daughter, Mabel, doesn’t have to shuffle between houses. Their lifestyle seems odd to others but works for them until Lillian discovers a dead body in her bed at the apartment and things start to fall apart. Someone knows the secret that was never supposed to have been shared. The Family Home is fast paced, well written and twisty. It will have you baffled until the last chapter. It was a cover to cover, one day read for me..
Thank You to Bookouture, NetGalley and Miranda Smith for the opportunity to enjoy this ARC.
The family home. I really enjoyed this dark, chilling, well-plotted story. It was intense and fast paced and I raced through this in a few hours, frantically turning the pages, desperate to find out how it was all going to be resolved. With that dramatic ending, I wasn’t disappointed! I’m already looking forward to the author’s next book. Utterly compelling reading, The book is inspiring and I wouldn’t hesitate to highly recommend it.
A amazing thriller that I was unable to put down.
It was full of suspense and intrigue. Would recommend this to anyone who wants a great thriller
Impossible to put down. A gripping thriller that will draw you in and keep you guessing to the end. It’s well written with great characters, a pacy plot line and plenty of twists. Loved it! Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.
When you find the right person, you just know. You want to be together every hour of every day and every night and marriage is the answer to that.
You are happy as can be and nothing can tear you apart. At least until that dreadful night…
Marriage is forever. In your vows you promised ‘until death do us part’ and ‘for better and for worse’ and because of the love you feel for each other, you are convinced you can conquer everything as long as you are together.
No matter how hard you try, it takes two to tango and the fairy tale comes to an end.
Apparently the perfect marriage does not exist. Maybe the perfect divorce does. Or so it seems. Lilian and Matthew have found a great system to avoid uprooting their daughter.
Then disaster strikes for a second time. The first one ended the perfect marriage. Will the second one destroy the perfect divorce?
Love, friendship, betrayal, lies, secrets, revenge and murder. All these things are put together in order to create this great story.
I was intrigued from the beginning, wanting to find out which secrets were being kept. I really did not have the slightest idea who was responsible for all this mayhem.
People can be very happy until disaster strikes, but sometimes it seems like they were only pretending. Downfalls can tear people apart and sometimes they can bring them together too.
Every ending is followed by a new beginning. You can find the path to your future alone, with new friends or with a new relationship.
This book shows us that one slip of the (drunken) tongue can get the ball rolling… 5 stars for this amazing story.
Thank you
Murderer and intrigue…mystery and secrets…family and friends…love and romance…divorce and children…unusual dynamics…significant others…red herrings…this book is fiction but reads like nonfiction…the author is talented and gifted at writing a cannot put down novel…I could not stop reading…I kept wondering…hoping…I could not believe what I was reading…I liked this mystery…it was unusual in that I could not discern the ending readily…I really liked this book…curl up in a comfy chair in front of a blazing fire…sip a cup of steaming herbal tea…cuddle up in a warm blanket…be transported by this story…try to guess the ending…enjoy a mystery like this one…the book was sent to me by Netgalley for review. First, thank you to NetGalley & Miranda Smith for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The Family Home.
I’m giving this 4 stars out of 5.
The Family Home is a very good thriller filled with a lot of suspense! The secrets, the distrust, the dynamics between the Ex Husband and Wife / Girlfriend, Grandma and friends made this book quite interesting. It was a quick read for me because I couldn’t put it down. At first I wanted just a bit more view of the past that lead them to the divorce, I felt as though that secret was revealed at the right time in the book but not quite enough detail but .. then I got to the end and understood everything and it was nice because I did NOT see coming. That always impresses me!
