Exciting, well written descriptions of the escapades of a resistance fighter during WWII in France. The ending was a bit all over the place, but so was the war. Over all the book was a compelling read.
An interesting story about a resistance fighter in France during WW2. The story is fast paced and full of action. This is a great novel and appears to be the first in a series. I am looking forward to seeing more from this author.
Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Emile's Journey
Emile is a school teacher in France. When the Nazi's invade he wants to save France so he works with the resistance. He knows his life could be in danger and he is willing to take that risk to save France from the Nazi's.
What Emile doesn't know is that he will escape the Nazi's only to pay the highest price a man can pay for his resistance involvement as the Nazi's target his village for reprisals against the Resistance.
Emile is lost and doesn't know where to turn. He decides he needs to get to Spain to continue to fight with the allied forces against the Nazi's.
This is the story of his journey, his time with the French Resistance and his close encounters with the Nazi's as he slowly makes his journey toward escaping to Spain to fight. Will he make it there or will something even stranger stop him from his goal.
It is a story of war and of tragedy of which one courageous man fights against evil with every breath in his body and soul.
It was a good book and I did enjoy reading it. I would recommend this book.
Thanks to Peter V. Wright for writing a great story, to The Book Whisperer for publishing it and to NetGalley for providing me with a copy to read and review.
Lost in the Shadow of Death by Peter Wright transports you to France during WWII. It starts off with The Battle of Normandy and the role of the French Resistance. It really showed the brutality and truth of war. The author definitely did his research and I learned so much with this novel. This book will definitely stay with me. I felt the ending was a little bit all over the place. Many thanks to The Book Whisperer and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
A good read! Interesting historically speaking, I got an accurate account of the French resistants themselves divided by their political differences. A thought provoking insight into the psyche of traumatized persons particularly as to their (guilty or not) conscience was compelling.
The author tried to draw a parallel with other horrific events of the French history (the Cathars), but I found it rather clumsily achieved. I did not feel it brought much to the storyline. The conclusion of the novel felt rushed.
I received an ARC of this novel from NetGalley and I am leaving voluntarily an honest review.
(The book does not appear on Goodreads nor on Amazon)
