Matthew Farrell is the author of The Perfect Mother/We Have Your Daughter. This unputdownable psychological thriller kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last page.
The cover of this book is a picture of peacefulness in a pleasant neighborhood. Could it be possible that the people who took Nelle might have done it for ransom? Kurt Anderson is a police officer who is married to Laura. She's an excellent mother to her daughter. Would they still think that when they find out all Laura's secrets?
On her way home one afternoon, Laura received an unexpected call from an unknown phone she found in her glove box. The message clearly stated, "Your daughter is in our custody, and you must get her from your mother's home before six-thirty, or both will not survive." Who are these people who took Nelle? But who is Betty Hamms? Since Laura's mother died, who is Clare Hamms? According to the GPS, the address is three hours away. Is Laura going to be able to get there on time?
Throughout the novel, there are an endless number of twists and turns that make this novel a fast-paced psychological thriller. I would recommend this book to everybody who enjoys reading a gripping thriller. Without a doubt, this novel deserves five out of five stars. I am grateful to NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to review this brilliant book. Congratulations.
This is my first introduction to author Matthew Farrell, and if this story is anything to go by it won't be my last.
As The Perfect Mother grabs your attention from the very first page and never lets go.
When Laura takes a face time call from an unknown number. To discover a mechanical voice telling her they've got her daughter Nelle. And she has two and a half hours to get to her mothers house if she is to save her.
The problem is Laura's mother is dead isn't she?
And as Laura sets out to travel to the required destination she discovers more than a few surprises along the way.
As does the reader who learns more about who those holding Nelle hostage think Laura really is.
And as the past and the present converge, Laura is in a race against time to save Nelle and finds she will do anything necessary to make that happen.
However, Laura's life isn't as perfect as she's led everyone to believe and she's holding on to her secrets for a reason.
And with excellent pacing, brilliant characters, big twists and a real feeling of danger. Not to mention lots of edge of your seat moments. This was a great read, and one I'd happily recommend to others.
I enjoyed it! The story takes place over a very short timeline but because it’s so fast paced it keeps it interesting! I like how the story unfolded with plot twists until the very end. I also didn’t know who to believe. I enjoyed it a lot, def recommend to pick up.
Laura is in a race for her daughter, Nelle's, life after receiving a call from someone who has kidnapped her. They call Laura by a different name and act like she deserves what is happening. She can't figure out who they could be or why they are doing this to her - she only knows that she needs to save Nelle. As the story goes on, we glimpse flashes of Laura's past, eventually leading to what happened to cause someone to swear revenge on her. This isn't her first family tragedy and she knows it will break her if she loses another loved one.
The caller makes Laura do terrible things that lead to her being tracked by law enforcement, and we see from their perspective, as well. The perpetrators have given her an insanely short timeframe to reach their location and she has no way to get help from anyone or signal that she's in distress. She feels horrible that she's committing crimes, but getting to Nelle in time is the only thing that matters.
The story moves along quickly and is an overall fast-paced read. It's not too far-fetched that these criminals would be out for revenge when you discover why they're after Laura. I did think that the officers were a bit too quick to see something off about the whole scenario, a loving wife and mother suddenly on the run and commiting heinous acts, seemingly out of nowhere. Most cops would chase and blame her first, then ask questions later, not even considering that she's being controlled and manipulated. But it was otherwise an engaging book and it makes you consider how you would act if placed in the same position. Let's hope you never have to find out!
A mother racing against time to save her daughter in this fast paced thriller is a book that you will want to read in one sitting. I made the mistake of starting this at night and ended up losing sleep but it was well worth it. This started off with quite a bang and didn't let up until the final page. This took turns that other books refuse to take. It was disturbing, heartbreaking, and suspenseful in all the right places. I highly recommend this one for thriller readers looking for a unique, intense read. Four Stars.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
Fast paced thriller with many twists and turns and an unpredictable ending. Needed to keep reading to find out what happened. A bit gruesome in places!!
When I pick up the call from an unknown number my worst fears are realised: someone has kidnapped my daughter Nelle. In an instant, the blissful life I've built is shattered. Distraught, I plead with them to let me speak to my darling daughter, until the voice on the line say a name that makes my blood run cold: Betty Hamms. Suddenly, my past and present are colliding. How do they know Betty? And what else do they know?
Laura was quite an intriguing character, sometimes I lied her, other times I loathed her. The drama and suspense built up from the first page. This is a twisted action packed read with short chapters. The surprises kept coming. The story has a dual timeline, the past is told in flashbacks and the present day. Hidden secrets are about to be revealed. It's a race against time to find Nelle before anything happens to her.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #MatthewFarrell for my ARC of #WeHaveYourDaughter in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookoutore and Matthew Farrell for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a solid 4 stars in my book? Why you ask? Because this book was a little nuts in the very best of ways.
We Have Your Daughter is like being in Smokey Mountain National Park and going to see Cades Cove. Your on this path and then there is a turn. Then there is a very sharp turn. Then the turns get super twisty. You take a deep breath because you think you made it and then you're driving slow and taking in the scenery and you get hit in the back end - not once but twice.
This book was well-written, with so many twists and turns and not 1 but 2 slam dunks of an ending. Think Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan and Dennis Rodman. I use a ton of metaphors. The reason is that I don't want to give any hints about anything in the book ~ plus I love metaphors.
Read this book ~ you will LOVE it.
Psychological thriller wow! What a ride. Wonderful book. I could not stop listening. listened to it everywhere
went. I think I was finished in two days. It’s a book that I always remember. It’s that exciting and thrilling. Highly recommend this book deserves more stars. I have found a new author to follow Thank you netgalley and the publisher for providing the advanced copy to
I can't remember the last time I'v read the majority of a book in one day but I did with We Have Your Daughter. It's such an easy read full of twists and turns and complexity.
Laura is definitely an interesting character and you go through a variety of feelings while reading the book. You like her, you dislike her, you feel sorry for her, you don't! It's a great mental challenge reading the book due to the complexity and the character development. It's not all about Laura, it's a family affair and almost everything is centered around two families each coming to terms with grief and lies.
Fantastic read, wouldn't hesitate to read another book by Matthew Farrell.
4.5 stars
This is a gripping page turner (I hated to put it aside!), and I look forward to reading more books by Farrell! There was just one twist after another, and you couldn't help but feel for Laura, her husband, and her daughter at various points in the story. Flashbacks were woven in and added important insight. Overall, strong writing creates a roller coaster ride that reminds the reader that lies and secrets always have a way of coming to light.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC copy to read and review. These thoughts are my own!
This is such a fast pace thriller novel. I didn’t once get bored. It had me hooked for the get go and I absolutely loved it. I’m a huge thriller novel junkie and 100% recommend this to people who love this genre. I was literally at the end of my seat the whole time.
The love a mother has for her daughter is unexplainable. Laura would go to the ends of the earth for Nelle and I loved that.
“you kill for the ones you love, always.”
This was so, so spooky. This is every parent's worst fear. I loved every scary second. highly recommend this fall
Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the arc ebook.
This is an edge of your seat ride from start to finish to the point I found it difficult to put down! The dual timeline is easy to follow and the short chapters help keep that frantic pace.
We Have Your Daughter by Matthew Farrell is an absolute thrill ride! The action starts with the first page and doesn't stop until the end. Told in dual timelines, secrets and lies are slowly revealed. I definitely recommend this book! I hated for it to be over but was happy at the same time because it made me anxious. This is another great thriller by Matthew Farrell and it does not disappoint. Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Gripping, addictive, I couldn't put this down. A must read for thriller lovers. This has all the gasoline icing twists and explosive turns.
This book is many things, and slow-moving isn't one of them. Buckle up! Laura is on a quest to save her daughter, and the trip is eventful. Although there are some twists and turns, it's an interesting, straightforward story with flawed characters. I quickly devoured this book due to the bite-sized chapters and multiple POVs. Thanks for the advance review copy
Put everything else on hold, this book will grab you by the throat from the first to the last page. After finishing this tour de force of a crime thriller that starts with a phone call and then a road trip from hell and this is only the beginning. Brilliant, original story telling which I devoured in one sitting and was definitely not what I was expecting. Shocking, brutal and full of surprises. What would you do to protect your family???? A new author and one to watch. A well deserved five stars and a MUST READ!!!!
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
This book was good and I loved the premise. Part of it felt flat though through the book. Overall I would give this book 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars!
