Mr. Birkbeck has broken my heart as a dad and I like to think as a decent human being by telling the tale of a broken child abused by her father and seemingly allowed to be discarded as if she was not human rather a plaything for another with no soul, dreams or self worth.

Unfortunately for me, I wasn't able to finish this book because my download got deleted from my computer and I couldn't re-download because it was archived :( but what I did read, which was a whole lot, was fantastic. I never knew about this crime and I'm sad I wasn't able to finish and find out what happened to this lovely young woman. The writing was well done, the story moved along at a nice pace and filled in the cracks when necessary.

I won't post to goodreads until I have a chance to finish it

This was a hard book to read, not because of the writing but because of the topics. It leads the reader through a range of emotions such as anger at Flyod his manipulative ways to commit crimes and get away. Amger for what Sharon and Michael had to live with and just when there is an end in sight. The damn is slammed shut. You don't want to believe that this type of evil exists, but one look at the news, social media, etc. and you know it does exists. There are so many good people out there trying to solve these cases and many more like them.

I couldn't put this book down and not only because I felt so many emotions for the victims. I also was wanted to find out if the mystery is solved and someone is brought justice and that the family finds such as thing as closure. I would read something else by this author.

Who was Sharon Marshall? She seemed to be everything a teenage girl should be : pretty, popular, honor roll grades, cordial to everyone, participating in many school activities . She had high goals. She wanted to go to Georgia Tech University to study aerospace engineering.

However, after high her friends lost track of her. and she did not go to Georgia Tech. Years later she was found to be a stripper working under a different name, with a much older husband who looked suspiciously like the man who was supposed to have been her father.

There was a mystery here that turned out to be much bigger than anyone would have expected.

I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I recently watched the documentary about this so I knew I wanted to read the book. Lots of information provided, so tragic what happened to her.
