The Things God Made takes a look at Creation based on Genesis. It has engaging pictures and the flow of the book is enjoyable. It does have a lot of words on each page so might be a little long for younger children but it’s chunked up in a way that you could just hit the highlights for younger ones. I’d recommend this book for kids ages five and up as a read aloud.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion.
I didn't agree with all of the interpretations of God and scripture the author had. The full color pages were impressive and eye catching.
The Things God Made by Andy McGuire is chock full of Biblical and Scientific facts of God’s Creation. I love the way The Things God Made is written and how it presents the Biblical and Scientific Facts together. I believe The Things God Mad is a good edition to add to your library, especially for kids that are interested in science. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.
This book was beautifully done and had a lot of wonderful facts for children to connect creation to the world around them. The illustrations are fantastic and realistic and brought the book to life.
I will note, for readers, if you follow a strict 7 day creation story, this book may not be for you. I can really appreciate that the author gives his reasons for why he wrote the book the way he did verse by verse at the end of the book.
The illustrations: Beautiful.
The description of animals: plant life, and land: Informative and easy to understand.
The Creation Story: It was okay. This book emphasizes that God created the earth, which I really appreciated. However, the way it is written makes it seem like God haphazardly made decisions about how to create the world. I wish it could have shown how methodical God was about his creation.
I don’t plan on purchasing this for my classroom ONLY because of the mix of religion/school. However, this is a beautifully illustrated book about the first seven days, when God created the universe and all things in it. I would recommend this book to Christian families and their children.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC. Review will be posted on my instagram @lizzies_little_library_
This book was fantastic. It not only tells the story of Creation but adds science with it. Why plants are green or what is light. My kids love science and this was just a great addition to our reading listen. Not to mention the art work is fantastic.
What a beautiful book! The illustrations are lovely! I’ve never come across a book that blends the Bible with science and art so beautifully. I didn’t agree with every interpretation, but I’m still giving it 4 stars because I like the concept in general so much and appreciate the opportunity to use the interpretations as points of discussion with curious children. The author’s notes are great for opening up some of these discussions.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance e-copy.
Overall, a very neat book for young children. The artwork was beautiful as well. I liked how the author tied Creation together (ex. plants need bees and bees need plants). Reading this book, especially the part about the solar system and moon reminds me how awesome our Creator is.
There were parts that seemed choppy and lacked a good flow, but overall it read well in a way that young children can understand. One final thing is I wished the author went into more detail about God's creation of man and woman.
Thank you to Netgalley and tye publishers for a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This book describes creation based on the scripture found in Genesis 1. There are definitely some artistic liberties taken (scripture says "kinds" and this book uses specific species). The illustrations are beautiful.
*Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for providing a free digital copy of this book in exchange for review.
My almost 3 year old son really enjoyed this book. He loved the illustrations and seeing the animals, and I loved getting biblical principles in a story that he would be captivated by.
What a delight! From the full colour illustrations, to the fusion of the traditional creation story with scientific detail this will be a perfect addition to my classroom bookcase.
What a stunningly beautiful book! Full page spreads with colourful illustrations in what looks like colour pencil. Nicely written information in a couple of paragraphs per page. This book has the science and creation (Christian Faith version), right on point. Simple enough for children, to understand, but not too simple, to make it boring. The illustrations are really beautiful and the content is a lot better than I expected! Fantastic.
What a beautiful, beautiful book! Full page spreads with colorful illustrations in what looks like colored pencil. Nicely written information in a couple of paragraphs per page about creation and nature with some references to science.
I was somewhat disappointed that more detailed drawings were not present, though there are a few pages of that. You know, those pages that are so filled with detailed drawings that you could look at them for ages.
This book still gets a 5 stars from me though. Great book to buy as a gift for a young one and for any library.
Thanks to Netgalley and Zonderkidz for a free digital copy.
I love this book on the science of creation that is simple enough for kids but not too simple. The illustrations are beautiful and the content is better than I expected! Fantastic.
