This book is absolutely stunning! The pictures are absolutely amazing and the projects are well described. The home is beautiful and very inspiring. They did an absolutely amazing job. I could only hope to have a house held as gorgeous one day. A great deal of love and hard-work went into the home and it shows. I definitely highly recommend it!
A huge thanks to Thomas Nelson for my complimentary copy and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
I have always been skeptical about owning my dream home for fear of my dream home solely existing on Pinterest but this book changed my life. This book doesn't only provide tons of step by step advice but also recommends questions to ask your building suppliers, a checklist of kind on what to do first , and what could go wrong. Loved the images as well and cannot recommend it enough .
Buy this one! This book is inspirational!
Create your Dream House on a Budget is useful for building a new home, remodeling rooms in an existing home or just buying a new light fixture So this book is good for everyone.
The book goes into details starting with planning and going all the way thru decorating to your taste. The book is organized into sections. So if you are remodeling a bathroom you can go straight to that section. If you are thinking about buying new flooring - there is a chapter for that too. For every chapter, there are lists of things you will need if you choose do to it yourself. There are a list of apps to save money on buying stuff for projects. The ideas on buying used are great.
Paint, wallpaper, flooring, storage and much more are covered with step by step instructions from planning what you want to do, to making final selections and installing. This book is thorough, easy to understand and very readable. And the photos are just stunning. Great decorating ideas.
Readers of Noell Jett’s _From the Ground Up_ will see some carryover here, as she and husband Daniel share the Cliffs Notes version of the story more fully fleshed out in that read.
This book is much more the nuts and bolts (literally, ha!) of homebuilding, and prospective homeowners (like myself!)—whether they plan to build from the ground up, take on a starter home, or even go for something move-in ready—will find helpful elements and inspo here. There’s a ton to think about at any stage, and this book helps place each component in its place and help it feel manageable.
The two books pair well together, if you’re interested; I certainly enjoyed having read _From the Ground Up_ first, though it’s by no means required! Just adds helpful context and more inspiration!
I especially enjoyed the definitions of home styles and types, as well as DIY project suggestions.
I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Wow this book is jam-packed with information as well as beautiful photos. I can't imagine something that they forgot to include.
It really IS a blueprint for how to create your dream home. It covers all the pre-planning, constructions, and decorating all in one book. As a design expert, I was surprised to find how much it covered that is actually PRACTICAL, USEFUL advice. Plus, it is totally up-t0-date regarding trends (I'm looking at you, floating shelves and shiplap)!
I would recommend it for both the design enthusiast as well as for someone who wants to remodel, renovate, or build a new home!
This title from the outside looked like every other home decorator/décor book on the market today. However upon closer inspection I was pleasantly surprised. Not only do they have gorgeous pictures but they walk you through all the things you will need to think about for your build/reno. They also have DIY tips and instructions for doing some of the work yourself. Installing doors, windows, molding, tile etc. This book was a great place for inspiration for anyone looking to build your own home or remodel the one you already have.
After purchasing a new home this year, I've spent many hours on Pinterest and Instagram looking at photos of homes to help me design what my new place will look like. As a an avid reader, I often check the new releases and stumbled across this book on NetGalley. Create Your Dream Home on a Budget by the Jetts sounded perfect. With 15 total rooms, I had to plan ahead, conserve dollars for the right items, and focus on things in the proper order. This book not only provides tons of step by step advice for DIY projects but it also recommends questions to ask suppliers, the order of accomplishing things, and the pitfalls to watch out for. Add to that tons of visually stunning and remarkable photos, it's easy to find ideas and options to consider for my own home. I like how it broke down the budget you should spend when considering brand new construction too. Great for beginners... and even experienced DIYers who need refreshers in some areas will learn and enjoy the book. A great way to start your day - read one or two chapters and find inspiration!
3.5 stars
I didn't realize the authors are instagrammers. It makes some of the things they talk about not relatable. I'm not gonna start an IG while building a home in hopes that companies are gonna reach out with free products. I can see their followers loving this book though!!! This is definitely aimed more at those building from scratch more than remodeling. It was interesting to read how they used IG to build their dream home but a little less helpful in building my dream home. I get that everyone is different so dream homes look different to everyone. I guess I was looking for a little more budget friendly and I'm not their intended target audience.
I like some of the helpful tips like mindset and budgeting. It takes a toll on your mind and relationships to build your dream home. You have to prioritize what's necessary and what you can live without. It's hard making decisions and compromising with your spouse. I like that all that is added in since sometimes you don't think about that part. They added a timeline which after COVID isn't accurate or helpful - at least where I live. It takes months here to get cabinets not a few weeks. The photos are absolutely stunning but I'm not sure the pics fit the budget. Well maybe just not my middle class budget! It's still fun to look and dream though! All in all it was fun to look at the pics and somewhat helpful in planning.
This book is visually stunning--the pictures are beautiful, and I appreciated the advice given here: Hire professionals to do what you can't. Full of useful tricks and tips for planning, budgeting, and strategies to create your "dream home".
I am not ever going to be the person who builds my own house, but I love HGTV, and think that anyone who has an interest in design and homes would love this book.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
Create Your Dream Home on a Budget is a guidebook aimed at helping novice renovators to create the house they want. It is interesting and the photographs are beautiful but it is very limited in the practical help it can give. It is very particular to the house and style in the study, and there are no pictures from before the work started. More of an inspiration than a guidebook or help guide, but good to browse through..
Great book for those that love home renovations like I do and for those that love flipping through beautiful home photos as well. It's a useful book but also beautiful to be used as part of the decor. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
The Jetts have a different idea of budget than I do. I originally thought this was a book to turn your own house into your dream house but it’s for people mostly building from scratch or completely gutting and rebuilding. It gives lots of advice for saving money though you will still be spending enormous amounts of money and working 12 hour days for years. Nicely illustrated with photos of their ritzy home and the second fancy house they’re building in St. Augustine. They are clearly talented, knowledgeable people. It’s all beyond my dreams though.
I really enjoyed that this book is both inspiring people to pursue the house of their dreams, but it's also realistic in what it takes to get that house. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves HGTV.
Thank you Net Galley for an ARC of Create Your Dream Home on a Budget by Daniel and Noell Jett. What a gorgeous book! Page after page I was thinking Yes, Please.
Create Your Dream Home on a Budget maps out Daniel and Noell Jett's process through creating their dream home. The couple provide useful tips and tricks to turning dreams into reality. Though these are useful I believe these are not a universal truth and not everyone's dreams and situations are the same so these tips should be taken with a grain of salt.
I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I loved some of these DIYs! Haven't gotten to look at everything yet but am I excited to see what I can use for my own renos.
The pictures to this book were really inspiring, but other than that, I wasn't a big fan of the content. There are many different levels of DIY and I feel like most of these are not for an inexperienced person and also not for every type of home. This book doesn't show what the area looked like before the renovation, so it doesn't give the reader a good idea of what could be done and around how much items cost for that project for that time (since inflation will happen every year).
A guide to DIY fix-ups and repairs. Includes guides for painting and remodelling with nicely written instructions.
When I was younger I really wanted a colonial house from the 1600s or 1700s. As I’ve gotten older I’ve come to terms with the fact that it’s not going to happen, but I can still love them. Now though? I’m more about a home where I can retire and live no matter how old I get. Something that’s one level, that has features from so many different homes I’ve seen over the years, etc. This is a great guide to help us through the process of creating our dream retirement home.
Even if you’re not looking at a home, maybe your considering remodeling a room or adding on, this is a great book to have as you work on brining your vision to life!
If you are like me, an HGTV addiction has led you to believe that homes are built in an hour on TV and decorated in 30 minutes. Create your Dream House on a Budget not only dispels those thoughts but shows you how careful planning can make a house a dream home and any project a success.
Full of gorgeous photographs, Create your Dream House on a Budget begins with the authors’ story. Daniel and Noell Jett, famous on social media as the creators of Jett Set Farmhouse, started with a beautiful piece of land. This perfectly organized book is a guide to what they did next and can be used by any homebuilder. After the initial chapters, with budgeting methods, styles, lists of tools needed and ways to source materials (this section alone is worth the price of the book), the chapters are organized by rooms. Although these chapters show details of the Jett’s build, each can be used by DIY homeowners renovating an older home. The how-to-do lists are well described and complete. Paint, wallpaper, seating needs, storage and much more are covered with step by step instructions.
Create your Dream House on a Budget is both inspirational and realistic. It is THE book to buy whether you are building a mansion or redoing your bathroom. It is thorough, easy to understand and very readable. And oh … those photographs! Pre-order your copy now!
Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Gift and Daniel and Noell Jett for this ARC.
