I had a good time reading Lucien and I.
If you're looking chance of pace this is the right call.
This is the first Sasha Clinton book I read and I want to come back for more!
I really enjoyed this STEM book! I loved the story and how they went through their residency f being a heart surgeon. And of course, I loved the love story in it. I would definitely recommend this book.
I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.
I wish I could say I liked this book more than I did. It was an okay read, but in my opinion just nothing exceptional or different from other rivals to lovers romances.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by NetGalley.
Fans of Grey's Anatomy and The Hating Game shouldn't expect too much.
I almost didn't want to finish this book since none of the characters were particularly likeable. They don't act their ages especially for surgical fellows. Lucien is insufferable and has got nothing on McDreamy or Josh Templeman. Mira is, well, Mira.
At times sweet, other times ludicrous. I guess this grew on me enough to finish.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sasha Clinton for my early copy. All opinions are honest and my own.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!
I really wanted to love this because the premise sounded so fun, but it fell flat.
Mostly the issue was these characters were just too darn unlikable.
DNF at 30%. Was really looking forward to this book. The beginning was making way. However, after that, the book— the rest - didn't live up to my expectations.
This book was okay, but I didn't love it. I found the characters to be quite annoying, and I wasn't really rooting for any of them. Definitely had higher hopes for this.
This book is so Greys Anatomy coded I loved it. I was audibly giggling while reading this. I love a workplace enemy to lovers, and this takes the cake.

this was another book that I was really hoping to love but fell short. because it is described as grey’s anatomy meets the hating game, I was super excited to read it. unfortunately, the first thing I noticed were the unlikable qualities the main characters possessed which lead to an unpleasant reading experience. with an emeries to lovers romance like this one, I expect the characters to be kind of mean to each other, but seeing their true personalities at times. Lucien is an arrogant and self-obsessed character and despite my wishes, he never grows out of it. his superiority complex is really through the roof. in terms of the story being unrealistic, i’m totally aware that most rom-coms are far fetched and kind of cliched. but, this one features a girl who literally followed her rival to college, med school, and specialized in the same area juts to spite him. maybe that’s pushing it a bit?
the other thing I had problems with was the repeated mentioning of girls being ‘legal.’ For example: “I never had standards as a resident. I hooked up with whoever (as long as they were legal.)” and “Monica is exactly my type-shes pretty, legal, and into me.” my question is, why is there so much mention of the girls he likes being legal? shouldn’t that be an unspoken trait??
sorry to be so critical, but I have one more thing to mention. when I’m scoring a book’s diversity, I’m not only looking for the inclusion of POC but also if they’re written well. Mira, the main character, is Indian, something we don’t find out until about halfway into the book and although a person’s ethnicity doesn’t need to define them, her cultural identity never comes up again. I feel like this was a missed opportunity to create a diverse character.
on the bright side, the plot itself is quite interesting and is the combination fo many popular tropes, so you’re bound to find something you enjoy. the ending is also really cute and wraps up the story nicely :)
this book’s expected release date is september 26, 2022!
thank you to Xpresso Book Tours and NetGalley for this arc!
This book was okay, sometimes I felt like not reading ahead and some bits were okay and made me want to.
Mira has lot of backstory missing and in chapter 15 we get to know where she is based from. She was just irritating and needed validation. I didn't like her mom too, Indian mom's aren't so difficult to please.
This had way too many insults where Lucien being rich comes way too many times and that became frustrating. He was bit arrogant.
They were both childish. I do like miscommunication trope but this was overly done and did not have any communication at all. I wasn't fan of either of MCs.
The spicy scenes were good which had me giving this 2 star. I am having difficulty writing of any other good part. Sorry this wasn't for me.
I had high hopes for this but it didn’t hit the spot for me. It could be because it was compared to Greys Anatomy and I was expecting some depth — but the miscommunication tripe throws me off, every time. People who are well educated should be able to figure things out a little faster.
3.5 stars, rounded up.
While I had no issues with the writing or the idea of the story overall, it also just exhausted me a bit to think that someone would spend so much of their life trying to continue competing with someone from high school. Especially when the whole issue really comes down to an immature miscommunication. I don't mean to go so far as to say that the characters themselves are immature, but at times they were. Especially considering the fact that they are supposed to be surgical residents.
I thought the story incorporated the right amount of spice, and there were some really sweet moments mixed in.
While not my favorite book I have read recently, I would certainly give this author another chance.
This book is like talking to a brick wall for months on end, finally getting past that wall only to have a new brick wall to talk to for months on end again. 76% of the book was painful to get through. Then for one blissful chapter, I thought it would turn around. Nope. Went right back to being insufferable until the last chapter. I have so many thoughts and notes on this book but I honestly can’t bring myself to write them all out. I’m just happy to be done with this mess. It’s put me in a reading slump that I desperately want out of.
I struggled with this one unfortunately and I absolutely hate that. One of my favorite tropes is fake dating and the fact that this was a medical background story with 2 doctors I was excited for what felt like a new spin on things!
My number one issue with this story is the “miscommunication trope” being included. It’s just a hard no and make me lose interest almost immediately. While I did power through and finish it, I feel like just a little more time and editing and plotting couldve easily made this a 4 star read!
The dialogue between the too characters wasnt my favorite. Some of the things the MMC said has me physically cringe. I will say it’s easy to root for the FMC considering the relatability of her personal baggage.
Maybe if it was possible for them to be aged down some? I know they’re doctors but for 34 year olds to be communicating this way made me dislike it so much and I HATE being this harsh on a book.
Overall I think the idea was there but some more elbow grease in the writing would’ve made a huge difference 😊

I’m afraid this book was archived before I had a chance to download and read it. I really should’ve checked the dates because I requested it five days before it closed and missed the email. Doh! I’m sorry. Hence no stars only because that would be unfair. But I have to submit stars so I’ll use five.
I tried to get into this book, but I struggled to relate to the main characters. This book was a more “me than you” type. I did like the authors writing though so I will definitely be giving Sasha another try!
When I first saw this book, I was giddy with excitement as it seemed right up my alley for a fun, sassy, romcom read. Everything about it ticked boxes for me, especially the marketing saying it's akin to Grey's Anatomy in the medical romance rollercoaster essence.
However, I'm not sure if the marketing blurbs got mixed up or something - but I failed to see how this was an "OwnVoices" book? The author is not a medical doctor, and I surely hope she did not behave in the ways the main character does in this book. Either I'm missing something, or the author and publisher sort of missed the boat on what #ownvoices is. I know that may seem nitpicky to some, but OV's is a main point of interest to me and one of the bigger reasons I requested this specific book in a sea of romcom books.
Plot specific: the characters felt underdeveloped and about 10 years (or more, honestly) younger than their mid 30's. The main character is not very likeable and it is not easy to root for her, she is immature and walks a harassment line that isn't charming. Her vibe was that of a petulant child.
The summary is the best part of the story, to be honest. And it was all downhill after that.
The spice was good and they had great chemistry most of the time. Other than that I didn't really enjoy the story of the characters.
What can I say about this book? When I started to read this I thought the main character Mira was really childish and immature. Everything she did was to be against the Hero Lucien.
Like she literally followed him through school, med school, his residency and this cardio internship. And none of it sounded like she actually did it because she enjoyed being a doctor.
This book was so focused on bringing each other down with their hateful banter that there wasn’t much character descriptions. I honestly still don’t really know what they look like.
And then the back and forth with the main characters was extremely annoying and childish. I was so ready to put this book down and not finish it. Idk if the author was thinking the back and forth would come off as sexy or what but it sure missed the mark.
One of the reasons I kept reading was because I saw reviews that said that it got better and it somewhat did. So Mira starts to change and try to be better and then Lucien starts being mean. I was like wtf is going on here.
Another reason was everyone kept hyping up one of the spicy scene and although it was good (which is the only reason it got 2 stars) it still was lacking for me and this could have been because I didn’t really enjoy the characters so it maybe that’s why I didn't love it as much.
Finally the characters kiss and start to act a little bit more like adults like high school or younger kids. And there is less bashing as the book moves forward.
But then the parents of both main characters are toxic and that adds another layer to the book.
Then the details weren't matching up for me and this really throws me off when it comes to books. I don’t mind so much if there are mistakes but to completely get some parts of the story wrong, like where Mira's mom had surgery and the time frame that the characters have know each other. This one really annoyed me, I was like wait am I missing something?
They story says they met when they were 16 and have know each other for 16 years but they're both 34. shouldn’t they have know each other for 18 years then?
And I know this isn't a huge deal but it was this added in with everything else just wasn’t the one for me, I don’t think I'll read this author again.
