We left the last book with Mercy stuck in the underworld and Hunter facing off against a vindictive and spiteful goddess, and this one has the action-packed beginning that anyone would expect to get after such a cliffhanger. It also has some great bonding moments and hard-hitting tension with the locals being influenced to hate the Goode witches.
I love it when it feels like authors listened to my complaints about a series and fix those things in the following books. Hex You feels like the Casts did exactly that. Gone is the overly dramatic teenage angst and back is the focus on sisterhood and battling the evil that is invading their town.
Both sisters start out in very difficult situations but leaning on each other once again helps them find the answers they're looking for, even if they're not exactly the happiest at the end. But it's that unexpectedly hard-hitting ending that convinced me this story was worth the read. Life isn't always easy, but there's always a bit of hope and support from loved ones to keep things going.
I will warn that this is one of those series where you definitely have to be familiar with previous volumes to really get everything that's going on. I don't think it'd be unreadable without having read the previous two books, but I don't think it would be as enjoyable or good.
Happy thanks to NetGalley and Wednesday Books for the read!
Hex You is the third book in the Witches of Goode Family series by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast.I enjoyed the first two books and this was just okay for me. Definitely give this series a go if you're into witches, fun and fairy tales!
Synopsis:
Twin sisters, Mercy and Hunter are witches, direct descendants of the Goode family, the founders of their town. After the murder of their mother at the hands of a foul demon, they have become the protectors of the Gates to different underworlds--ancient portals between their world and realms where mythology rules and the darkest of creatures exist.
Mercy and Khenti are trapped in the Ancient Egyptian Underworld and need Hunter’s help to escape. But while Hunter searches for a way to save them, other evil threatens Goodeville. Amphitrite is still looming–and she wants vengeance against Hunter. With the gates rapidly weakening, Amphitrite lures out a deadly creature and sets it free on the residents of Goodeville. It will take everything in Mercy and Hunter’s power to stop the goddess and seal the gates once and for all.
Well ouch author Cast’s. Ouch.
My biggest negative point about this is that it’s never really revealed what is killing the trees.
Kenti: you are lovely
Amphritite: I loathe you
Mercy: ouch
Hunter: you can do it….but who fulfills the prophesy for you?
A good story with a heartbreaking end.
I read Hex You as a standalone however; it is the last in the Sisters of Salem series. I felt that you could easily follow along sith the plot from previous stories and still connect the third installment. However; the last third of this book dragged and I needed more action with everyone involved.
This author duo never disappoints. They never miss. I've been reading their books since middle school, and this series has entertained me just as much as House of Night has.
I have LOVED, well not past tense, I LOVE PC and Kristen Cast. I saw the house of night books and got them and fell in love with.the series. This book is no different. I LOVE this book. The authors are setting a trailing blaze in their wake of YA books. This I did not realize this book was atrilogy. Now I cannot wait to read the next book. This book is so great. You can feel every emotion the twins in this book had. This book is filled wit love, has and everything in between. One thing I am not afraid to say, this book made me cry a river. Sad tears and happy tears. I am so glad I got this book!! Everyone who loves to read should read this duos books. Highly, highly recommended.
I received a free copy of the book and is voluntarily writing a review
This is the end of finale of the Sisters of Salem trilogy and probably the best of the three. Mercy, Hunter and crew have one last chance to save their town from the Goddess Amphitrite. This series reads very much like a CW teen show. Lots of drama, teen angst, otherworldly big bads, a talking cat, and great sacrifice from the MCs. I personally struggled with the YAness of this series but that is totally a me problem! High school Sadie would have been alll about the twin/teen angst and drama lol. My favorite character is Xena the cat. She cracks me up and is a total delight. Overall, this is a fun young adult witchy trilogy and if you like the genre I recommend checking them out.
A lovely ending to the trilogy. In Hex You, twin sisters and witches Mercy and Hunter Goode have their final face off against the goddess, Amphitrite, and work towards healing the ailing gates to the underworlds that surround their town. The stakes are higher than ever for these witches and their friends.
These teens really feel like teens- and the writing reflects that. It's a quick and easy read, with a truly emotional impact at the end. The sisters come back together, and amends are made. I enjoyed this series overall, especially the scenes with Xena.
this is a bitter sweet ending to the sister of Salem series in Hex you we follow Mercy and hunter as they try to save their town from the evil that has infected it. This story I enjoyed reading but something is holding me back from giving it a five star and it might be how fast and convent the ending happens other then that I get what people are saying about this book but I still enjoyed it and that ending had me heart broken to say the least.
Hex You is the final book in the Sisters of Salem series following twin sister witches Mercy and Hunter, protectors of the gates to the underworld. On the eve of coming into their powers on their 16th birthday, the gates begin to weaken and rot and a demon gets through, murdering their mother. Now the twin sisters, new witches on the Path, must figure out how to heal the gates and stop any more demons from getting free into their world.
I think where I went wrong with this book is going in with pre-conceived expectations. I looked up reviews about the series and saw that the main characters are two twin witches, one gay and one straight, and thought that sounded really interesting - Hunter being gay isn't even mentioned once in Hex You. I read the description of "gates to different underworlds" and "mythology" and thought since I love mythology, especially underworld mythology, I'm in! BUT the different worlds and their mythology are barely touched upon in this book. I was excited to see Mercy and Khenti's adventures in escaping from the Ancient Egyptian Underworld (Ancient Egyptian mythology has always held a special place in my heart) - they're out within the first 3 chapters; most of the book takes place in small-town Illinois.
I also wasn't prepared for Xena, the Goode family cat familiar. Outside of her feline form, Xena is most often in her cat-person form, described like an extra from CATS the musical with a wild mane of hair and fur-covered human body. She lounges around eating, talking about eating, and randomly licking people on the face - very catlike, but also very jarring, especially when it happens during high-tension scenes.
It's not a badly written book, and I especially loved the Buffy references, and if I'd had a stronger connection to the characters the plot would have probably been more of an emotional ride, but I just didn't. Don't get me wrong, the authors do a great job of recounting what happened in the previous books so I wasn't lost plotwise, but the emotional impact was missing for me as a new to the series reader.
Overall, I don't recommend this as a series to jump into, because the payoff just isn't there without the emotional connection that comes from following these characters' journey from the beginning. And, honestly, I didn't love the ending or the characters enough to want to go back and pick up the series from the beginning to see if it changed my perspective. Not a bad book or series, but just not for me.
unfortunatly archived before I could download (only a day in between). Therefore no feedback possible at this time

3.5/5
Hex You is the third and final installment in the Sisters of Salem series by PC & Kristin Cast. I loved the House of Night series and it’s why I originally requested this one starting with Omens Bite (book 2). I’ve had a more love/hate relationship with this series but I think overall, I did enjoy it.
I had an interesting relationship with the twins. We’ve all gone through a lot these past three books 😂. Hex You was definitely the best for their relationship. We finally get to see the twins communicate with each other and try to repair their relationship.
I will say Hunter was my favorite. And it’s not only because she’s a lesbian. Tho I do love her for that. Hunter has also had her own plan and gone with her instincts. Also she’s a cosmic witch and that’s really cool. I was sad that we never get to see Hunter have any sort of romantic subplot meanwhile Mercy has two throughout the series. I am glad there wasn’t the case of the bury your gays but I also wanted more for Hunter
I think this was probably the best of the series since we finally see some character growth. But overall, I was not a fan of this series.
Rep: white lesbian cis female MC, white cishet female MC, Egyptian cishet male side character, Egyptian side characters, white cishet side characters.
CWs: Murder, death, grief, blood, religious bigotry, prejudice against witches, injury/injury detail, snake like creature, violence, misogyny, sexism.
This was a satisfying ending to the series I feel! It was sad, but I felt like the sadness worked, to help transform Hunter into the witch she was meant to be. I'm glad that the twins' friends stayed with Hunter throughout the book, and that she's not alone. I also really enjoyed that she got her own familiar! It made me smile, and really made the ending for me. Great job overall from the Cast team! :)
I enjoyed this book very much! Great storytelling!!!! The ending is surprisingly, but touching and fitting. Thanks to #Netgalley for this ARC!!!
This book, this series. I cannot imagine a better way to close out a story that has grown dear to my heart. The third and final installment of the Sisters of Salem is the most action packed and emotional of the set. I laughed, I cheered, and oh man did I cry. Hunter and Mercy are two of my favorite witchy characters. Their development in this book arc’d perfectly. The secondary characters are the ultimate squad goals. Once again I loved the Mythology brought in as pertaining to the trees. Definitely a series that will stay with you long after you’ve closed the bill last book.

I’m a little late posting the review for this one because I didn’t realize it was the third in a series. I picked up the first two to read so my review could be holistic and take into account the lead up to the final book.
This one was actually my favourite of the three. The previous two instalments I found the writing a bit mismatched for the characters. In Hex You, the character development a dialogue worked well!
Mercy and Hunter Goode are twin witches that protect the gates to the underworld. They are descendants of other great Goode witches that have always protected their town and community against evil.
This last instalment focuses on Hunter working to make amends with her sister and friends after agreeing to work with the underworld sea goddess Amphritite. After realizing she was being used in the second book, Hunter was determined to right the wrongs she created.
Mercy has her own fixing to do! After entering the Egyptian underworld in the last book and hexing a powerful Demigod, she needs to figure out what the fallout of that hex is for her and her sister and friends.
Working together to defeat evil and strengthen the gates to the underworld, Mercy and Hunter have to race against time to make things right again.
I would rate this book 3 stars and recommend the series for YA lovers. I would tag this on the younger side of YA though so be prepared for the dialogue that aligns with the genre.

I really liked this book. It's not the usual type book I read, but it was nice reading something out of my norm. This author was new to me, too. I think the book, and characters were really well written.
Mercy & Hunter Goode are the protectors of the Gates to the Underworld's. The gates are weakening, letting in evil that is threatening their own world. While searching for ways to fix the gates, Mercy is trapped in the ancient Egyptian underworld and only Hunter Can get her out, while also keeping Amphitrite away from the town. Can Mercy & Hunter work together to heal and seal the gates once and for all?
This is the 3rd and final installment in the Sisters of Salem trilogy. While this hasn't even a favorite series of mine, I did find this to be the strongest book.
The story picks up right where book 2 left off, with Mercy and Khenti trapped in the Egyptian underworld, and Hunter needing to get them out. We finally see much needed character growth here that allowed me to connect with these characters just a bit. I actually got a little sad at the end.
I did find the ending to be quite rushed and I still had questions about the overall plot, but the story was still mostly fun. Just not a series made for me.

So I've read the other ones in this series. I was a big fan of the Cast duo since the house of night series. However, I will admit that those even got a bit "old" by the end.
I don't think this series needed to be dragged out to three books. I think two could have done it. One thing I will say about this duo, is that they are very big on little details and Hex You was filled with them.
Hex You was honestly pretty much what I expected it to be. It's an easy fast read with cringey dialogue. There was some character development but I never fully embraced anyone.
I think the story as a whole would have benefited from being a duology rather than a trilogy. There were some exciting moments and overall I was entertained.
