My thoughts: I have loved this series, but this was my favorite! The adventure, the Irish setting & immediate chemistry were done so well! There were several deeper topics covered in this romance, as this author often does, such as grief and dementia. The way those topics are balanced with the romance and adventure we’re perfect.
TW: Dementia
Carla Black has spent the last decade travelling the world in her Jeep Wrangler, travelling is the only life she’s ever known since she was little being raised by a single father she affectionately nicknamed “Biggie”. When her best friend Anna is set to be married in Ireland, Carla, the maid of honor, flies to Dublin where she is to be picked up by the best man Eamon who is to drive her to the wedding. The last thing Carla expects is Eamon Sullivan, a man still trying to live a life for himself and not to the standards of others. When fireworks ignite, Eamon and Carla decide to make minor detours on their trip to the wedding to explore Ireland and kickstart Eamon’s desire to travel. During their trip, Carla and Eamon encounter some minor unexpected setbacks, the biggest of all being an opportunity at a chance of love, that is if they are both willing to take it.

My second five-star read of the year! 😍 This is the third book in Trish Doller’s the Beck Sister series and the first read from the author for me. When I tell you this book had me in TEARS at the end 🥹😭 my heart could not handle it. This was an instalove romance set with the beautiful background of Ireland as Carla and Eamon road trip together to make it to Anna’s wedding. Anna is the main character in the first book of the series which I will be SPRINTING to go read after finishing this gem of a book. Even though this is a romance, the story is mainly focused on Carla, especially on her relationship with her dad Biggie who has advancing dementia. I loved Carla’s character she was free-spirited, messy and has the most beautiful relationship with her dad. I could not get enough of Carla and Eamon (almost as much as they could not get enough of each other 😉) also the SPICE in this one 🌶️🌶️🌶️🥵🥵👏🏼👏🏼 There were times where I did not agree with Carla’s choices but it was a beautiful story and the growth for both her and Eamon together and individually was heartwarming to read about. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This title is now available to purchase!
4.5 rounding up to 5 stars. This was such a great book! Like I've said in my review for the second in this series, The Suite Spot, I am so appreciative I stumbled upon Trish Doller's books, specifically this series. I will happily read whatever she comes up with next! Her books are so well written and feel so realistic. The characters have enough depth and layers to feel like real people I could be friends with, and the stories never feel cheesy. They cover relatable events while still being light and easy to read. If you are looking for a romance book, I'd highly suggest checking this series out.
In this book we are introduced to Carla Black, Anna's friend, as she travels to Ireland for Anna and Keane's wedding. I loved the instant connection romance that happens quickly at the beginning of the book (no dragging it out in this book!), and the adventures that unfold while traveling through Ireland. I also loved Carla and her father's relationship.
TW: grief, death, and health issues, specifically dementia.
**Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me an advanced copy of this book and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion. I am posting this review to my Goodreads account immediately and will post it to my Amazon & Instagram accounts upon publication.
Carla is a seasonal bartender in Florida so that during the off-season, she can take her dad's retrofitted Jeep on the road. She's visited dozens of countries, explored almost 400 national parks, and intends to keep on traveling as long and far as she can. She takes a detour to Dublin for her best friend's wedding. Eamon is the handsome best man, the groom's big brother, and has always been the responsible one in the family. Once they take a side trip to a nearby mountain trail, Eamon recognizes that he needs to make some different choices.
This was a nice love story. It has a little bit of a "Disney princess" timeline, though, because they fall in love in a matter of days, which is a touch sketchy and not entirely realistic. But the love story itself is sweet, just a little rushed.
There's a dad angle adds the drama the book needs, since neither person in the couple tries to hide things or be dishonest, which happens in most other romance novels. I appreciate that part, even though the storyline there is a little difficult.
I think the writing itself was good, but I think perhaps the relationship could have been fleshed out a little more, or the timeline of it extended a smidge. I also wish there was some sort of reaching out from Eamon after Carla leaves. I do like that Carla sparks Eamon to act on the desires he's already had, rather than just having him change himself for her.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy via NetGalley in return for sharing my thoughts on this book. Thanks to the author and publisher for this opportunity!
Thank you Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed another book with the Beck Sisters. I go so long in between them that I tend to forget the other characters but I am always glad that characters from other books find their happy ever after. This book had all the things I love in a good romance. I loved the setting, loved the characters, and the characters meeting and falling in love so quickly didnt bother me. It was light hearted, spicy bits were well written, such good relationships amongst the main characters and their family and friends, and I appreciated the self discovery the main characters needed to find in order to make a lifetime together work.
Off the Map is a little spicier than Doller's previous books, and the action starts immediately, with Carla and Eamon being attracted to each other from the moment they lock eyes. I loved the instant connection between the two of them, and somehow, it was totally believable. I was along for the ride with them, literally, as they took a journey through the Irish countryside and fell in love along the way. I really enjoyed their story and like Doller's previous romance novels, there was an element of seriousness throughout the book as Carla was dealing with her dad's dementia diagnosis. Overall I enjoyed this book quite a bit. I like how Doller's novels have a similar feel to them, but the main characters in the three I have read are all so different, making each novel unique and very much separate from the other three, yet it's clear they are all in the same universe. This was a lot of fun.
Carla is a world traveler who wants to live her life without regrets. Her best friend is getting married and she flies to Dublin for the destination wedding. She meets Eamon, the best man, who is supposed to drive her across Ireland to the wedding. It's instalove for these two as they slowly make their way across Ireland, where we learn about Eamon's ex-girlfriend and Carla's dad, who Carla laments throughout the book as he is suffering from dementia. This is the first book I've read by Trish Dollar and I'm looking forward to reading more.
Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC, in exchange for an honest review.
This is a beautiful and heartwarming yet heartbreaking book that will stay with me for a long time. Maybe it's because I've had a very grief stricken few years in my own personal life that I just appreciate the medical side, loss, & life after loss in a way I wasn't expecting. I think this book will resonate with so many people, but I feel it may also be one of those books that might need to be just at the right time, or it may not hit the mark.
I personally enjoyed Carla and Eamon's adventures in Ireland. I have no desire to leave the US, but I enjoy hearing stories and seeing pictures of other people's trips, so this allowed me to live a little vicariously through them and I was able to paint pictures in my mind of what those adventures entailed. I laughed out loud many times.
I appreciated Carla and Biggie's relationship, and as someone who was raised in a single parent household (raised by my mother), I was able to relate to so much between them. Biggie will absolutely gut you, or at least he did me.
I didn't realize this was part of a series when I requested a copy of this book through Netgalley as this is a new to me author, but I will for sure be going back to read the first two books as well.
Thank you, Netgalley, for the eARC. I enjoyed this heartfelt story. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have been looking forward to this book and it did not disappoint. Carla , who lives to travel, arrives in Ireland to be maid of honor for her best friends wedding . She meets the best man at a pub and they instantly fall for each other. The books follows them on their escapades on the way to the wedding then Carla’s life after the wedding is over. This is book 3 of a series but can definitely stand alone .
Holy cow, I didn't realize how hard hitting this book was. It's so much more than a romance. In fact, the romance took a back seat to the rest of the story.
Biggie is just precious, and I loved any scene involving him. Carla's relationship with her dad was so wholesome. I also loved the update on Anna!
Ireland is my most favorite place in the world, so of course the setting was just perfection.
I have almost nothing in common with Carly, and insta romance isn't my favorite so I felt the romance to fall flat.
With all that said, it's still a solid 4 star. I always love anything Trish Doller writes!
If you have a case of wanderlust I think this book will fit the bill.
Carla is in Dublin for her best friends wedding, which is just a stop in many adventures in the past few years. The best man Eamon is tasked with picking her up at a local pub. He can’t help but be attracted to her carefree spirit.
While this is a little to insta-love for me, I found it to be believable. With Eamon taking the safe route with a corporate job his desire is to travel, but being the responsible one was his role in the family.
Carla is running from her fathers dementia diagnosis so a detour to take Eamon to some of his must see spots is the perfect distraction.
This was emotional, and really touched me especially having just lost a family member.
This book wrapped up this series beautifully. While each book can be read as a standalone, I loved watching the characters interact when they all got together – although I missed seeing Rachel’s daughter Maisie in this one.
This book follows Anna’s (from book one) best friend, Carla, as she travels to Ireland for Anna and Keane’s wedding. While there, she gets to know Keane’s brother, Eamon, and her travel bug seems infectious as he begins to indulge in his dreams of traveling on their way to the wedding.
I loved Carla and Eamon and I love that they brought out the best in each other – things they didn’t even realize they needed to face. Another cute romcom I definitely recommend, but please be aware that this one does talk about the loss of a parent as well as dementia.
Tropes:
- Strangers to lovers
- Fling to forever
- Traveling romance
- Ireland setting
- Strong female MC
This was such a cute novel! It follows the adventures of Carla, who never stays in one place too long, thanks to the motto her father taught her. She encounters Eamon as they head to her best friend’s wedding, Eamon who wishes he lived a life as care-free as Carla’s.
Eamon and Carla decide to live life vicariously on their way to the wedding so they traverse through Ireland in his old school Land Rover Defender (I’m here for these adventures!). I loved their adventures, including the Sangria Bull, IYKYK.
While I wasn’t super into their “meet cute” (read: it wasn’t at all a meet, or cute) I loved the rest of their story as Eamon found his way through their adventures, and Carla learned that being home isn’t all that bad, and home is truly where your heart is.
Grab this one because Ireland in March is perfection, and if you enjoy:
Outdoor adventures
Grumpy/Sunshine
Ireland
Old school Land Rovers
70s music
TW: loss of a parent, Alzheimer's & dementia.
If you're looking for a book set in Ireland, look no further! The setting was so fun, I loved the travel and the tropes. I will say this was not all light and fun, it did deal with grief. I really liked Eamon but I was annoyed by Carla so that maybe took away from my enjoyment a little bit.
Round up to 4.5 STARS! I loved this read from NetGalley and now I'm wishing I had started it the second I got a copy. I just love Trish Doller's easy storytelling. She had me roped into this rom-com from the first sentence and I couldn't put it down until I found out what happened.
I loved the banter, the relationships, the connection to the first book I read in the series, The Float Plan, and so much more! It makes me want to travel and follow crazy ideas and fall in love without meaning to. I missed reading the second book in the series but it didn't feel like it was needed in order to go on this journey with Carla.
This is an amazing summer, beach, travel, or just anytime read!
I have lots of mixed feelings about this book so it's hard to give a concise review but here's a few of my thoughts:
🍀 I didn't know this was the 3rd in a series until after I finished it (oops). It works as a standalone but there are definitely things that I can see would have made more sense if I read all the books in order
🍀 insta INSTA love - that's it. that's my thought.
🍀 the FMC Carla has been taught her whole life to run away from her feelings, so now as a woman in her early 30s, she doesn't know how to deal with her emotions. I found myself relating to her in a lot of ways - the urge to run from strong feelings or stuff them down is real.
🍀 Early in the book, we find out Carla's dad has dementia. It comes up a lot. I wasn't expecting it. I don't usually cry in book, but this definitely brought the tears. That part of the story adds a different level of sweetness.
Overall it's a fun book! I enjoyed the story and the adventures. Now I just need to go back and read the first 2!
3/5 for spice - it's not crazy, but it is frequent.
Ahhh I hate to say this so much, but I just didn't enjoy this as much as the other books in the series (I guess this is part of the series, but it does not feature a Beck sister.
The main character is Carla (Anna's friend from Float Plan) and I just didn't connect to her as much as I'd hoped.
Rather than the usual slow burn, this one was fast burn, with a quick hookup that leads to more. I did like that this book featured Anna and Eamon (as Carla has flown to Ireland to attend their wedding.) But overall I liked this rather than loved it.
Still love this series and like every series, there are books you like more and books you like less....
Ughhhhh. This book was so good! I was expecting a lighthearted romance but it had so much depth to it too. I always love books set in Ireland.
I really enjoyed this delightful romance! Though I’m not usually one for the insta love trope, this one worked out quite nicely and both leads were flawed, relatable and well-developed. It was steamy from the start, which I’ll never complain about, but it was balanced out with a great storyline. Carla’s backstory was heartbreaking, which made for a bittersweet ending. I loved the setting in Ireland (perfect March read) and as usual I didn’t realize this was book 3 in a series so I’m looking forward to the first 2 but it worked well as a stand alone too!!
Carla Black is a wonderer. She learned this at a young age from her dad, whom she called Biggie. When his health starting failing, he encourage her to go on her own. For six years, she traveled and video chatted with Biggie and Stella. On her trip to Ireland for the wedding of her best friend, her guide is Eamon, Keane's brother. Little did she know, she met a kindred spirit. They didn't take the direct route to where the wedding is taking place. When the wedding is over, she goes back to Florida with her cat Boudica. Eamon knows his heart went with her but he needed to transition from working for a company, to learning car maintenance so he can go after Carla. Life doesn't always happen the way you want but even better.
