Summary
Carla and her dad have always been best buds, discovering the world together through travels. When he is diagnosed with dementia, he urges her to continue exploring and to not be there for his slow decay. It is on a trip to Ireland for her best friend's wedding that she sets off on what will be her most life-altering adventure yet, and it's with the groom's brother, Eamon.

Why did I pick up this book?
I was gifted this Advanced Reader Copy by NetGalley. I thought the premise sounded cute, so I requested a copy!

What did I enjoy about it?
The concept was cute - best man and maid of honor off on an adventure before a family wedding. I loved their chemistry and how it felt like they had known each other forever when really it only took a few days for their connection to form. I also really loved that these kindred spirits found each other at the right time in their lives when they each needed a push in a certain direction.

What did I not enjoy about it?
Overall the book was just okay for me, didn't really leave a lasting impression. It was a short book, but as a result many things felt rushed - the first hook-up, conflict, resolutions, etc. My favorite part of Rom-Coms is the build up to that first point when they finally connect, and that was missing here. Last, I know the point of the story was for Carla and Eamon to find themselves and what they needed next in life, but showing up the day before the wedding of the two most important people in your life was selfish. Also how do you not see your aging dad in 6 years, even if he told you to get out there and explore? I can't fathom that.

Off the Map is a well-written and engaging novel that explores the complexities of growing up and finding oneself. The novel's themes of self-discovery, friendship, and the importance of living in the moment are expertly woven into the plot, making for a thought-provoking and enjoyable read.

My love for Trish Doller books continues! I adored this charming & spicy story.

Carla Black has been traveling the world in her vintage jeep for nearly a decade. She only stops long enough to make enough money to continue her explorations.

Eamon works creating digital maps but has always dreamt of taking to the open road.

Eamon is tasked at picking up Carla at the airport in Dublin for her best friend/ his brothers wedding they find themselves driving across Ireland together with lots of detours along the way.

I loved the chemistry between Eamon and Carla. It was a great mix of playful banter, but was balanced with serious conversations that you feel more free to have with a stranger. They both have complicated family lives and it created a deeper dynamic between the two of them that had me holding on through the story.

This is one of my first times loving insta-love troupe, but it really worked between these two characters.

Although this book is part of a series ‘The Beck Sisters’ you can read it as a standalone. If you enjoy romance stories that also tie in serious topics, then this series is for you.

Thank you Netgalley, St. Martin’s Griffin, and author Trish Doller for an arc of this book.

This was a great romance! Carla goes to Dublin to serve as Maid of Honor at her best friend’s wedding and the groom’s brother, Eamon, who is the Best Man is tasked with picking her up. These two have instant chemistry and their trip across Ireland becomes an adventure that neither of them will forget.

Carla and Eamon were perfect together. Carla is an adventurer and Eamon is more of a planner but he really wants to experience life more like Carla does. Carla is dealing with some things in her personal life and I was happy that she finally took some much-needed steps before the book drew to a close. I really just felt like Carla and Eamon complimented each other perfectly and couldn’t wait to see them figure things out.

Sarah Naughton did an amazing job with the narration. I thought that she was able to add a lot of emotion into her reading which really helped to bring the story to life. I thought that both her male and female voices felt natural and I absolutely loved the accents she used for some of the characters. I think that her excellent narration helped to bring this story to the next level.

I will definitely be recommending this book to others. I thought that this book was very well done and I loved the adventurous spirit of the characters. I hope to read much more of this talented author’s work in the future.

I received a digital review copy of this book from St. Martin’s Press and Macmillan Audio.

Off the Map by Trish Doller
Contemporary romance. Beck Sisters, book 3. Can be read as a stand-alone but part of the travel is to get to a wedding of one of the sisters. I had not read the previous books and had no trouble following the story.
Carla Black is on a perpetual adventure. If it sounds interesting, she’s all in. No deep commitments, but a life of exploring and living to the max. She meets Eamon Sullivan in Ireland and they have instant chemistry and go exploring, both in bed and around the country. Eamon is the responsible family member. Taking a side trip on the way to a wedding shouldn’t be thrilling but he’s learning from Carla that fun is allowed.
Carla is also running from emotions and she needs to unlearn her habits for a richer future.

It’s a fun romance with a second story of learning to love. Dementia is a big piece so if that’s a trigger for you, be warned.
“What happens in the pasture, stays in the pasture.”

🎧 I alternated between an ebook copy and an audiobook. The audiobook is narrated by Sarah Naughton. The performance is well done and includes a slight Irish accent for Eamon and his friends that you don’t necessarily hear in reading the book. Both the ebook and audiobook had me crying as she does video calls with her father and his dementia is a factor.
I think the ebook had a slightly lighter, carefree feel for me as an adventure of her falling in love. The audiobook felt a bit more serious from Eamon’s tone and perspective of life.
I listened to this audiobook at 1.5 which is my standard and is what I feel makes the best conversational speed.

However you read this book, it’s heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time and of course, as a romance you get a hea.

I received both copies from NetGalley. The audiobook courtesy of Macmillan audio.

• I don’t even know where to start. I loved it, all of it. I couldn’t put it down. •

Carla embodies the spirit of wanderlust and refuses to let herself be tied down. But when she flies to Ireland for her best friend’s wedding things change.

Eamon works with maps all day long yet he hasn’t seen much of the country he lives in let alone the world. He’s always been the reliable one, the stable one- but what if he wasn’t?

When Carla and Eamon intertwine, they each learn things about themselves. Things that maybe had always been there. Things that they just needed the right person to bring out.

•What an incredible and touching story. A huge thank you to Netgalley & St. Martin’s Griffin for the opportunity to read the E-Arc. •

Float Plan was one of my favorite books of 2021 so when I was sent an ARC of Off the Map, I was beyond thrilled. I adored this book and pretty much of the characters. There was chemistry between Carla and Eamon right from the moment they met in a small pub in Ireland, and I just loved the camping adventure they went on as they made their way to Carla's best friend Anna's wedding who just happened to be marrying Eamon's brother Keane. (Note: Anna and Keane were main characters in Float Plan). It was a steamy relationship right from the start and it just seemed so right with these two. Carla also had a very close relationship with her dad, who lived in Florida, and sadly was dealing with symptoms of dementia. She tried to keep in touch with him while she was away, FaceTiming with him as often as she could as she didn't want him to forget who she was. I applauded her decision to go back to Florida to help in his care. Having lost my mother to Alzheimer's in 2021 and after being her caregiver for five years, this part of the book was emotional for me but I still loved it. It was so very well written, and it made me laugh and made my teary eyed. It was just wonderful and do highly recommend it. I don't know how I missed the second book in this series but I need to get a copy of that one immediately.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the review copy.

3.5 out of 5 stars!

I enjoyed my time with Carla and Eamon. Carla lived a life of wanderlust, going where the wind blew her. This time she was in Ireland for her best friend's wedding. She meets up with Eamon, brother of the groom, to travel to the wedding venue. Eamon has a sense of adventure that has been stifled by familial obligations. He wants the life Carla leads. I didn't like how Carla and Eamon were lackadaisical about getting to the venue in a timely manner, but it was also a time for discovery for them. It seemed that Carla and Eamon were ready to switch roles so to speak and their roundabout trek to the wedding cemented what they both wanted to do. Except... they didn't count on falling in love. I loved Anna and Keane's (Float Plan) cameos especially since it was their wedding that Carla and Eamon were traveling to. Sarah Naughton did an amazing job of narrating this story. She brought out Carla's and Eamon's personalities and gave them relatable and realistic dimensions.

I received an advance copy of the book from the publisher and voluntarily left this review.

I had high hopes for this latest novel by Trish Doller! I really liked The Float Plan and absolutely loved The Suite Spot. Unfortunately, Off the Map fell a bit short for me. What I liked was the travel that Carla and Eamon do together while semi-blowing off pre-wedding activities for Carla's bestie and Eamon's brother. I loved Carla's sense of wanderlust and Eamon's desire for adventures. These two brought out very different sides of the other. I also enjoyed their willingness to make detours and seek out sights. What did not work for me was their very sexual relationship and how quickly they fell for each other. It went beyond lust (which I can understand happens quickly) and was far too explicit for it to be romantically falling in love. It just all happened very quickly. I found both of them to also be a bit whiny considering they are adults. Carla's relationship at my dad is perhaps what kept me reading. I loved hearing her stories about her dad and her realizations about her relationship with him. I loved the way he taught her about adventure, but also missed some of the other big life lessons.

Although not my favorite of Doller's books, I think others might very much enjoy it. I am still partial to The Suite Spot!

Travelling the world. Hunky Irishman. Rescued kitten. Seriously, what's not to love?

Carla is always on the go. Nicaragua? Check. Every National Park in the US? Check. Mexico? Check. Now she is in Ireland for her best friend's wedding when she meets the best man, Eamon, (enter hunky Irishman) and forms an instant connection. But, Carla isn't the settling down type. Over the course of her week in Ireland, she learns a lot about love, life, regrets, and what ifs.

I loved it. It was a fast read because I was so invested. As a fellow travel-lover, I loved that that was a key part of what makes Carla who she is. She is adventurous, sometimes reckless, yet seems to realize something is missing. Eamon is swoon-worthy! He is the opposite of Carla - held down by a sense of responsibility and obligation to everyone but himself. He longs to - and even has prepared to - travel the world, but needs an extra push. I loved the banter, the flow, and the emotion tied to what the characters are experiencing. I laughed, blushed, and cried during the course of this heartwarming book with relationships, with others and yourself, at the heart of it.

f you cannot buy insta-love in a romance, then pass on by. I can take it or leave it; I do know in real life people who knew at the first glance, and are still together fifty years later. Not many, but they are out there.

Trish Dollar gives us just such a pair, who come together for a wedding in Ireland, and within a few hours of meeting just ... take off for a road trip. And that's the story, their road trip, as we get hints that the family is quietly going bonkers in the background..

But I really enjoyed the novel because I loved that road trip, as well as the way the two of them went from physical attraction to discovering one another as friends. Apparently this is part of a loose series, but I did not find that a negative point, because the story kept the focus on the pair. The baby, the farm couple, just everything added up for an engaging read. I am going to look out for more by this author.

A carefree nomad traveling and going where the wind takes her meets her match in Eamon Sullivan, a stick-in-the-mud with hidden wanderlust.

The compatibility of these two didn't translate spectacularly to me. They seemed a good pair, but the insta-lust pairing in the book's first pages didn't sit well. I loved the detours they had to navigate. The bond continued growing through their shared adventures trying to get to a wedding.

I had no idea this was a book in a series, having not read the first two. Would that have helped? I doubt it, but maybe. The characters were easy to forget and I was mainly still reading because of the setting.

*A minor thing (and personal pet peeve), Colombia is spelled with an o, not the letter u. It was fixed in the later mentions in the book but the first mention of the country was misspelled (this is just me being me).

{Huge thank you to @netgalley @trishdoller @stmartinspress @smpromance this free book to read and review!}

I absolutely adored the first two books in this series (but this book can be read on its own as well!) and so when I saw there was a third book coming out it, it instantly became a must read for me!!

Great characters, laugh out loud moments, some great 🔥, amazing side characters from the previous books, writing that makes you feel you’re right there, and a romance that makes you smile. It also follows a father-daughter relationship and I am a sucker for those. I think what made it even more special for me was the fact that I can relate with the subject matter of dementia and how it effects those around it. So well done!

This is the third book in the Beck Sisters series, following Float Plan and The Suite Spot. However, it can definitely be read as a standalone.

WHAT I LIKED
- The initial meeting between the main characters (Carla and Eamon) was so perfectly swoonworthy. 😍
- I adored the plotline that followed Carla's relationship with her dad, who has Alzheimer's. It was so well written.
- I also loved the descriptions of Carla and Eamon's travels through Ireland. That section of the book was reminiscent of the movie Leap Year (with Amy Adams), which is one of my favorites!

WHAT DIDN'T WORK FOR ME
- Insta-Love, like, times a million. The majority of the book takes places over 4 (!) days.
- There are a lot of spicy scenes, which didn't match the level of steam in the first two books. It was unexpected, and I think it was overkill.
- The conflict in the romantic relationship felt like it could have been easily resolved with clearer communication.

Overall, I really enjoyed this romance!

Read this if you liked Float Plan or the movie Leap Year.

Off the Map is the third book of the Beck Sisters series that started with Float Plan of women who take chances and do what they need to do for their own peace and happiness. This installment is the story of Carla who takes a break from her adventures to head to Ireland for Anna and Keane’s wedding. Carla immediately finds herself in a hot and heavy relationship with Eamon, Keene’s brother, and starts to rethink her traveling lifestyle in light of her ailing father and lack of roots. This was a short, quick read with all the endearing qualities of the prior books. I love books that take place in Ireland and this had all the quirky and endearing characters. And while I am not the adventure type, I really liked the notion of following your dreams and living for today. The romance was 🔥 and immediate which was the one downside - there was no build up and it just didn’t feel right. I missed the slow burn of the first two books where there was so much time to fall in love with the characters. So while I still enjoyed it, I liked the prior two books much more.

This was my first Trish Doller book, and certainly not my last!

I am a camping-averse homebody, and I was not sure how much I was going to enjoy a story that revolves around two adventurers. Turns out, I LOVED it! Trish is a gifted storyteller, and I found myself immediately caught up in the tale of Carla-meets-Eamon and how they fit multiple adventures in along their way to the wedding of Anna (Carla's best friend) and Keane (Eamon's brother).

The character development was spot-on, even for the supporting characters. I loved all the relationships: Carla + Eamon, Eamon + Keane, Carla + Anna, Carla + Biggie, Carla + Stella, and Biggie + Stella! This book was full of laughs, but also had many heartfelt moments and brought me to tears more than once.

I will definitely recommend this book to my friends, family, and followers. And I cannot wait to read the other books by Trish Doller! Huge thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this in exchange for my honest opinion.

Carla has been traveling all over the world with her Dad since a young age. When her Dad is diagnosed with dementia he pushes Carla to continue her travels on her own. Carla is in Ireland for her friend's wedding and meets Eamon, the best man who is supposed to take her for the wedding, but they end up taking a trip of their own!

This is my first Trish Doller book! Float Plan has been on my list for a real long time! Off the Map was interesting and a book with a lot of potential. I loved her relationship with her Dad, it was a little strange that she hadn't seen her Dad for 6 years! Now to the romance, I'm not a fan of the insta sex/love trope. I didn't find their chemistry to be great or how they fall in love in under a week. I enjoyed their travel experience together. Overall a decent read.

Thank you @stmartinspress @macmillan.audio for the eARC/ALC of the book!

Trish Doller is a top read author for me. I have enjoyed all three of the books in the series so far. March is the perfect time to read this title as it's set in Ireland. There is a bit of "on the spot" romance that might seem too quick for most, as in how does one sleep and seemingly have the "perfect" romance in a day? Others might love that the MC is free to love who she wants. This is a great standalone title, though there are a few glimpses of prior characters in this one. Enjoy!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an advanced copy of Off the Map by Trish Doller.

Off the Map is a return to the world started in Float Plan, and shares a lot of the same elements. Carla Black travels to Ireland for her friend Anna's (from Float Plan) wedding. She's supposed to meet-up with the groom's brother and head to the venue together. Instead, the two fall into bed and proceed on an adventure through the Irish countryside. While Carla is no stranger to living off the beaten path, Eamon is learning as he goes.

In the midst of the detours and wedding celebrations, Carla and Eamon fall in love. But as Eamon catches the travel bug, Carla is called home to care for her father. Their differing paths pull them apart, but even as Carla plans for a more stable future, everything is thrown into disarray. She now has to decide to put down roots or hit the road again.

Off the Map explores deep themes about stability, family obligation, and keeping your heart open to opportunities. The book has elements of romance including a number (I forgot to count) of spicy scenes in the first fifty percent, but I found the on-page death of a parent too difficult. Trish Doller's past books haven't shied away from darker topics, but this time it really pulled me out of the story.

CW: Parental abandonment, on-page portrayals of dementia and death of a parent

I enjoyed this novel! The characters were fun and the adventure the two main characters find themselves on was great and provided many good laughs while reading. I loved how confident Carla was with traveling and connecting with nature, she seemed like such a bright presence to others. There were times that I was a bit frustrated with her and found her to be a bit selfish at times. However, I also appreciated that she acknowledged her areas of needed growth and was willing to face that head on later in the story. Eamon was so sweet and I loved seeing him outside his comfort zone chasing his dreams. The romance aspect was pretty effortless, a little insta-lovey to be honest. I appreciated that there was no drama surrounding it. Both characters were very mature and level headed when it came to communication and understanding. The dementia storyline was heartbreaking and I thought the author handled this aspect of the storyline with great care. Overall, it was an enjoyable read for me!
