I have loved reading this series from Trish Doller. Off the Map was a fun, light vacation hookup book that turned out to be more than that. The main characters had so much fun together it made me wish I was on their road trip. And the descriptions of Ireland make me want to move it up my bucket list.
Great read.
Trish Dollers Beck Sisters stories have all brought me so much joy!
Doller writes witty, charming characters and love stories without ignoring life’s hardships. The inclusion of outside challenges that face relationships makes the relationships she writes feel that much more real!
I loved getting to explore Ireland through the adventures of Eamon and Carla, and really loved the tie ins with Anna and Keane and getting to experience their wedding!
If Trish Doller wanted to write a thousand more stories following these intertwined characters, I’d read them all!
I loved this series by Trish Doller. I think she does a really good job of writing a “light” read while also tackling some heavy topics. I have to admit I initially thought Off the Map was about our first two main characters’ mom and not the friend. I thought the friend, Carla, played a small role in the first book, so I was surprised to see her get her own story. However, I think the three books tied together nicely and how she came to be in Ireland.
I loved that travel was such a major component of this book. It gave me major wanderlust! I also loved how much family was a central theme for both of our main characters and how they came to deal with those issues. This book seemed to deviate from the first two books in that there was a lot of steam in the first half of the book and less plot. Nothing wrong with steam, it just wasn’t as equally balanced as in the first books. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book. I can’t wait to read what Trish Doller puts out next!
I have a new book boyfriend and his name is Eamon Sullivan.
Going into Off the Map, I was exited. Float Plan knocked my socks off and Trish Dollar did it yet again! Listen, I’m a sucker for road trip books and love interests with accents, but add in the fact he’s in touch with his feels, willing to work on himself AND seems to have a two orgasm minimum per performance? Good god is the man quite “grand”.
But let’s not forget our unapologetic and amazingly capable heroine Carla who’s personal journey dealing with the complicated feelings of falling in love when your life is a little bit falling a part inspired me. I doubt I could keep up, but hands down if I could pick characters to go on a couples trip with, it would be them!
Fans of Float Plan will be happy to know you do eventually get to spend more time with Anna and Keane which was super fun!
This romantic, wild, wistful, wanderlusty read gave me the nostalgia of the romcom movie The Leap Year (mostly the Irish and road trip bits, but it was fun!)
I did want to call out a content warning that there is parental loss/grief on page for those who need to protect their heart accordingly.
Trish Dollar is a now one-click author for me! Can’t wait for more!
I LOVED the first book in this series. It was so cute and I was expecting the same thing from this book. But, I don’t think this book was for me. The romance felt rushed. They are instantly hooking up after knowing each other for only 3-4 hours. It just… felt very random to me. Regardless, I do enjoy the writing of this book but this one wasn’t for me.
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Griffin for the early arc.
What’s quick fun read. The title and cover fits the story perfectly. Basically the story tells the tale of two individuals who’s life goes off the road from their plans when they travel together in Ireland. Carla Black treks the world to avoid going home and dealing with her father’s illness. Eamon Sullivan is stuck in a house he doesn’t like while dreaming of getting lost in the world. On their way to a wedding, they decide to travel the long way and explore places in Ireland that only an off road vehicle can maneuver. The trip guides them through a path of wandering sheep, a Sangria drinking bull and a sweet hospital couple all the while learning about each other. Their relationship seems perfect except they both are avoiding issues that drove them together in the first place. Carla runs home to be with her dad and Eamon plans to drive around the world, but with time and tragedy, they find each other again and realize that their love is the most important thing.
The audiobook was well done and a definite read in one day kind of book.
Thank you Netgalley & Libro.fm for the advance copy.
Not at all what I expected but it made me laugh out loud, and cry, and believe in happy endings, so that's all good.
Quick, steamy read that stands alone or part of a series. Trish Dollar readers will appreciate the insta-attraction and the spice level. The novel does have unexpected serious undertones that the reader should be aware of before diving straight into a romance.
A fun, quick read about a vacation fling that quickly becomes much more.
This one was definitely a bit more insta-love than I usually like. But I loved the setting of this book so much that I kept reading and was able to get past it. Predominantly set in Ireland… it was so dreamy.
Carla was a tough character for me to connect with, but as you learn her backstory, she makes more sense.
Eamon is so sweet and tender and I loved him.
Definitely more emotional than I was expecting with Carla & her dad (see below for TW).
Overall a quick read I’d recommend if you like Ireland and travel.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for the chance to review an advance copy.
Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read this book early. I really enjoyed this cute love story. I loved revisiting Ireland. I will admit, I haven’t read the first two in this series, so I will go back and read those now to see how they all connect.
I have to say that this series the Beck Sisters just keeps getting better and better with each book. Off The Map is the third book in the series and it held be captive from the first word to the last.
Carla has the motto in her life “here for a good time, not for a long time.” That should give you an idea of how she lives and does what she does in life. She has her life mapped out in a way that fulfills her every pore.
Eamon is a makes digital maps for a living. But he has lost his way in his life and feels nothing can go right for him.
As life goes by, many fate has stepped in and unknowingly getting a ride to her best friend Anna’s wedding in Dublin puts her in the path of Eamon’s life. Eamon is sent to the airport to pick up Carla.
I liked the interaction between these two. This story has a lot happening in it and reading it gave me a few hours pure entertainment.
Thank you NetGalley, Trish Dollar and St. Martin's Press for the ARC of Off The Map. This is my personal review.
I simply LOVED Off the Map! I stayed up super late reading it one night which is totally out of the norm for me. I had a few problems with the main character, Carla. However, I think my issues with her are just aspects of her adventurous and emotionally immature personality with zero coping skills. But tell me... if you flew to Ireland for your best friend's wedding on a Monday, would you truly go on all sorts of adventures and not show up at the destination till Friday?! Anna (from Float Plan!) has to be the most laid back bride ever. Even still, I loved the story with laugh out loud moments, beautiful settings, and lots of heart.
**Huge content warning for dementia. Some scenes with Carla and her dad were heart wrenching.
Off the Map releases on March 7th! Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for my e-arc!
"Off the Map" is the third book in Trish Doller's "Beck Sisters" series. While I haven't read the previous two books, I didn't feel like it was necessary to understand this one. This book centers around Carla, who has travelled to Ireland for her best friend's wedding. While there, she has a meet-cute with the wedding's best man, Eamon. I enjoyed their meeting and thought they had good chemistry. However, I feel like the storyline was a little unrealistic and things moved way too fast for me.
I did appreciate the portions of the book that centered around Carla's family, particularly her father. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved the characters and the storyline in this third installment by Trish Doller. Thank you to Macmillan for lending me an ARC. Carla's red Jeep was larger than life as 'Valentina' and the shenanigan's that Eamon and Carla got into were hilariously absurd but also meaningful. There were a few threads that didn't quite connect for me in the story such as why Carla would stay away from her father for 6 years if she loved him so much, while at the same time coming home in summers to work in Ft. Lauderdale. Overall it was a very enjoyable and quick read.
3 Stars I'm so glad that Trish Doller continued the Beck sisters series (even though both sisters already got their books) and wrote Anna's friend, Carla's, story. Off the Map was a simple and sweet read. In Ireland for her best friend, Anna's, wedding (yay for getting to see Anna and Keane get married!), bartender and perpetual wanderer Carla meets Anna's brother-in-law-to-be, Eamon. Instead of heading straight for the wedding like they are supposed to, Carla and Eamon hit it off and instead visit some local Irish wonders that Eamon always wanted to see, even if they are out of the way on the way to the wedding.
I loved how symbiotic Carla and Eamon's relationship was. They were partners in a way since they were always on equal footing with each other, and they both supported and challenged each other like partners should. Both learned some hard truths and important lessons from one another. This novel was quick to get through and overall satisfying, especially having read the previous two books.
"Off the Map" is the 3rd book in the Beck Sisters series and I loved it as much of the first two. I enjoyed reading about Carla's relationship with Eamon, and also her dad (trigger warning for dementia). The book was was sweet, fun, and a quick read.
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy of Off The Map by Trish Doller. It publishes March 7, 2023, so although it is a little early to “spill the tea” (thanks for the laugh, Stella), I’m hearing about discounts on pre-orders and want this to be on everyone’s radar.
It’s official, after reading Float Plan, The Suite Spot and now Off The Map, I can say that Trish Doller’s books are a 5 star-guarantee for me! She is my cup of tea! This book is craic!
While the series is called the Beck Sisters, this book focuses on Float Plan’s Anna’s best friend/ chosen sister, Carla Black. She is traveling (what else is new for her being the wonderful Biggie Black’s daughter?) to Ireland to visit Anna and Keane, and gets a ride from Keane’s brother Eamon. Well, a ride with many stops along the way. This book is such a fluid, addictive read with scenic descriptions that make you want to hop on a plane, banter that makes you laugh, a large dose of HEART and even some heartbreak. I went into this one blind and I will let you, too.
These books can be read standalone but WHY NOT read them all, and in order? Fans of Float Plan will be thrilled to spend some quality time with Anna and Keane. I will definitely check this out on audiobook because I love an Irish accent.
Trish, I am here for a good time, (even a bad time), and a long time when it comes to your writing! We have already veered off the ACTUAL Beck sisters for this series, PLEASE take us back to Ireland to get to know the rest of the Sullivan siblings!
Very open door but it fits the story perfectly
5/5 stars
Location: Anna is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida but most takes place in Ireland
This was a beautiful story about Carla and Eamon. Carla is in Ireland for her best friends wedding and is picked up by the groom's brother, Eamon. There is instant chemistry between the two and Carla gets Eamon to step a bit out of his comfort zone and take a round about way to the wedding. What Carla didn't expect was to fall in love, and confront the painful future of her father's life with dementia.
I loved the character development for both of these people throughout the story and seeing them both becoming the people they want to be. This book also had a lot of funny moments that made me laugh out loud. At the same time, the book has these serious moments, especially near the end, while Carla begins to cope with her father's dementia.
I will admit that I struggled with the "inseparable at first site", but at the same time it really seemed to match with Carla as a person. She was so free spirited and I loved her "machete" ways.
If you like a close confines, love really quickly finding yourself type books, this is the book for you. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a copy of this book. All opinions are 100% mine.
*Thank you to St.Martin's Press, Trish Doller and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review"
As with the other two books in this series, this book gave me such a huge range of emotions. The author is so profound with the visuals, like the cover of this book, that you want to weep with the beauty of it all. I had so many laughs, cries and emotional moments treading about Carla and Eamon. They are both amazing characters and so easy to love. Out of the three novels, Float Plan was my favorite but this is a very close second.. It was just so beautifully written and seeing these two people grow is amazing. FIVE STARS!!
First I want to thank St Martin’s Press and NetGalley for an advanced digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Ummm what was this? Surely not the third book in a series that I loved up until this point. This didn’t even feel like it was written by the same person.
Problem #1:
This book was excessively steamy. My main problem with that is that there was hardly any steam in the first two books in the series. Why the sudden change? I don’t mind some steam, but we get pretty graphic details 10% into the book. So yes, the characters immediately jump into bed after meeting. It was more like insta-lust than insta-love. Nope! Not for me. We then continue to read about them having sex over the next few days. *eye roll* There was absolutely no build up to that relationship and they seemed like two immature teenagers with raging hormones. Not two people in their 30’s.
Problem #2:
I actually didn’t care for either Carla or Eamon. As stated above, they were both very immature. Carla has no ambitions and Eamon is still crying over ridiculous childhood stuff. Carla clearly needs therapy to deal with her mother abandoning her. I also couldn’t get over the fact that she hasn’t been home to see her dad in eight years because he told her to stay away to not see him deteriorate from dementia. What?! She’s a big girl and can make her own decisions. Carla has a ton of issues going on and these all seem to be dealt with and overcome within a week. 🤔
Problem #3:
This felt like two completely different books. Was this a romance? Was this a story about Carla’s journey to finding herself? The beginning was this boring road trip across Ireland filled with two people who had literally just met having a bunch of sex. The last 30% was facing her father’s illness and finally trying to figure out what she finally wanted to do with her life at the age of 33. The two just did not work together.
So yes, sadly this book was a gigantic disappointment for me. If you were a fan of the first two in the series then beware! This book felt completely different.
