I think this is a solid contemporary romance, but by no means is it a hugely groundbreaking book. A second round purchase for most libraries

Carla is off to Ireland to attend her friend's wedding. She was raised by her single dad on travel and never stays in one place too long . In Ireland she meets Eamon who spends his days working and only dreaming of travel. When Carla leaves Ireland to head back home to her quickly declining father who has dementia, Eamon eventually follows and days of travel begin again.

My favorite character in the book was the cat and would have liked more scenes with the cat. I did enjoy the travel talk and the trips around the world -- especially since I have not traveled anywhere since the pandemic started. The book helps you dream of the possibilities of lands unseen and it's a fast read. But the storyline and characters are so-so

This is the third book in Trish Doller's Beck Sister series. You wouldn't have to read the previous two books to get in to this book. This is a a fun book that has a little meat on it by dealing with a parental diagnosis.

Carla has been living the life on the road. After her mother left her when Carla was a young child, Carla's dad took Carla on the road every summer during school break. They traveled the world and through this Carla learned to run from the troubles in life and don't stick around when the going gets tough.

When Carla flies to Dublin for her best friend's wedding (Float Plan) she meets Eamon and it is instant connection. They do not immediately make their way to the wedding festivities. Instead they go on a road trip that last several days and continues to build their connection.

Carla figures it is time to return home and deal with her father's diagnosis before it is too late.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A delightful romance set in Ireland. Much like the previous two books in this series, the romance was well done, steamy, and full of angst. Main character goes to Ireland for her best friend’s wedding, and when the groom’s brother meets her upon arrival, there is an instant connection and attraction between them. They begin quite the adventure on their way to the wedding, and it is full of heart, humor, and love. Read this in one day and loved it!

Oh this is a thoroughly fun read - a 4.5 rounded up for me! This is the story of the honorary member of the beck family. She is a vagabond that gets caught up in the beauty of Ireland and finding her person along the way. It’s filled with adventure, fun, and romance. It’s the perfect escape book and just what I needed. Thanks to NetGalley for the early read. Pick this one up!

Carla is from Ft Lauderdale, FL and has been working as a bartender during high season and traveling in the summer in her Jeep to various National Parks and Forests. She started her Jeep adventures with her Dad, after her Mom left.

She takes a trip to Ireland for her best friend’s wedding and meets Eamon, the best man, in a bar, and they click. The adventures they go on are sweet and sometimes hilarious. The witty banter here is great and so are the 🌶️ scenes!

Carla introduces Eamon to a life where it’s ok not to stay in one place. But with her Dad’s dementia she ultimately decides she needs to go home.

This book really resonated with me -
Using travel as a coping mechanism to escape, finding people along the way that change you, found family, getting out of your own way & finding your person.

Carla has a lot on her plate from getting ready her best friends wedding and dealing with her father's Alzheimer's. Clara and her dad used to always go on an adventure but he told her not to sit at home and go out on her own adventure.

Carla starts off her new adventure by going to Ireland for her best friends wedding. Here she goes to a bar and meets Eamon. Clara and Eamon have never met but they hit it off.

I was not prepared for the last bit of the book and it was so heartbreaking. I don't want to give anything away but it made me feel all the feels. The writer did a great job!

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's press for the free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Trish Doller brings her usual strengths to this newest novel that I've loved in the two previous novels I've read in this series, The Suite Spot and Float Plan: bring together two protagonists wrestling with difficult problems in their separate lives and weave a story about them where they can each bring some strength to the other while at the same time recognizing, ultimately, life is better together. (Sorry, that's a spoiler, but it is a romance novel. A romance novel with some definite spice!)

I do love Doller's books. They are a comfort read for me, and I am excited that she has more backlist novels I can reach for.

That being said, I struggled with her portrayal of Carla's dad's journey with dementia. I am no expert, other than watching and helping two family members who experienced two very different journeys with this catastrophic disease. While I was reading, I struggled with how "well" her dad seemed to be navigating his life after living with dementia for years. However, now that I have space to sit back and reflect, I realized that was probably a bit of envy on my part (yes, for a fictional character, this is where I am, friends), but also recognition that given how different the disease presented in my family's lives, of course it will be different for everyone. And how incredibly skillful of Doller to write a story in which I became so invested.

Pick this up if you enjoy books with strong characters who will stay with you long after you finish. Off the Map is not your ordinary light romance book. It has heartbreak and heart, tears and laughter, and an ending that is very satisfying.

Do you love going on adventures?

So in theory I do, but then I get a bunch of anxiety leading up to it, almost back out, but go anyway, AND then finally have a great time. It’s a whole thing, but I keep doing it lol.

Carla lives her life going from one adventure to another, when she’s not bartending in Florida Nov-April. She doesn’t do love, she never stays in once place long enough for it to work, and she’s never had anyone want to go with her…until she meets Eamon, a modern day cartographer. She’d flown to Ireland for her best friend’s wedding and Eamon is the groom’s brother. She’s instantly attracted to him, and he is in awe of her sense of adventure. Even though Carla tells Eamon she doesn’t do feelings, the universe has other plans. When Carla goes home, was it truly just a fling? Or are they destined to be together?

Okay, wow, this one was so cute and immediately had my attention with the spice scenes. Like yes, I needed that, and there wasn’t just one – woot! You could just feel the chemistry fizzing off the screen! It was intense. Then when Carla left to go take care of her dad who has dementia, I teared up. I was so sad! I was not ready for this one to end, but I did immensely enjoy how it ended and feel that things were wrapped up nicely and in an amazing way.

Super thankful for the publisher, St Martins Press (@stmartinspress @smpromance), NetGalley (@netgalley), and the author, Trish Dollar (@trishdoller) for this e-arc in exchange for this honest review.

Make sure to grab your copy March 7th!

This book was unfortunately so disappointing to me. I've loved the prior two books in this series, so I had high hopes for this one. Something was just missing for me. It felt like we were hitting all the classic romance novel beats, but there was no emotion or underlying connection. I wasn't even entirely sure that I understood Eamon and Carla's sexual connection.

There was a lot of promise in here for me, and a lot of potential for emotions, but it was just a miss for me. I do think this is a fluke though, so I will be reading more from Trish in the future!

Jaysus! Trish Doller writes the best book boyfriends. The previous Beck Sisters books were stellar and this didn't disappoint. Right off the bat, Doller hooked me at the meet cute and the coziness of this couple. This felt shorter than the other books and felt as if it came to its conclusion too quickly time-wise, but glad HEA was achieved.

If there's a continuation to this series, I'm guessing it'd be for Ciara.

I always get excited when I see Trish Doller has a new book coming out! Once again, I immediately fell into this story and loved it! Carla has what seems to be a carefree, fun life. But when she meets someone new while traveling to her best friend’s wedding, she starts to question a few things about her life. I love Carla, Eamon, Anna, and especially Biggie! I laughed and I cried reading this. Great story!

This was such a sweet third story for the series, and in many ways, it felt more linked to Float Plan than The Suite Spot did, with its themes about wanderlust and grief, and how lives can become a constant sorting act of when to hold on and when to let go. Doller keeps the pace brisk throughout, never pausing for long, even when a line or a moment packs an emotional punch. The first two thirds of the story focus on the whirlwind romance, while the last third focuses on the father/daughter relationship. The two threads are woven together throughout the book, but the shift suggests the book is best suited to those who enjoy reading about personal journeys and complex family relationships along with their flirty love stories. Anyone already familiar with Doller's work will be up for the ride. Anyone not familiar with Doller's work might want to take a look at Float Plan first, not because this book doesn't work on its own, but because Float Plan is a lovely book and I enjoyed the dialogue between the two stories, the ways the themes linked up to create a more layered look at motion and stillness, and the ways we choose one or the other, pending what life throws at us.

I just cried my eyes out through the last quarter of this book. It was really good, but I wasn’t expecting how sad it’d be based on the synopsis. I loved Carla and Eamon. I’m not generally one for insta-love, but they really worked for me. I loved their adventures and seeing Ireland through their eyes. I loved seeing Anna and Keanu and Rachel and Mason from the previous two books. This was a little steamier than I expected, but I am here for it! I will continue to be a big fan of Trish Doller and can’t wait to see what she writes next!

This one just wasn't for me.

Too much going on with a main character that felt detached and aloof who also seemed to talk too much?
Also what kind of friend does this grand adventure with their best friend's wedding looming??

Insta-love that felt too insta with smut thrown in the mix that felt unwarranted and sacrificed true characterization and nuance.

Thank you to the publisher for an e-ARC for this read in exchange for my honest review.

Off the Map is the story of Carla and Eamon. Carla has been an avid traveler all her life with her dad. Biggie. When Biggie is diagnosed with dementia, he tells Carla to keep traveling without him, as he doesn't want her to see him decline. On her way to her best friend's wedding in Ireland, Carla meets up with the best man Eamon to travel together. The two quickly fall in lust, and take many detours on their way to the wedding.

Off the Map is the third book in the Beck Sister's series. These books are considered standalones. I read book 1, then read book 3. I would recommend reading book 1 before book 3 as there are some details that may be confusing without reading number 1.

I really enjoyed reading this story. I loved following Carla and Eamon's adventures through Ireland. I loved the way they tied in the first book with Anna and Keane's story. I also loved the family aspect from both sides.

I did not love the insta-love/insta-lust trope in this one. It felt way too fast for me, with no lead up.

Thank you so much to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me to read this before it was published in exchange for an honest review.

Off the Map

Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley. I'm usually not a romance reader but the destination hit the spot for me.
Carla Black’s life motto is “here for a good time, not for a long time.” She’s been traveling the world on her own in her vintage Jeep Wrangler for nearly a decade, stopping only long enough to replenish her adventure fund. She doesn’t do love and she doesn’t ever go home.
Eamon Sullivan is a modern-day cartographer who creates digital maps. His work helps people find their way, but he’s the one who’s lost his sense of direction. He’s unhappy at work, recently dumped, and his one big dream is stalled out—literally.
This the third book in the Beck sisters trilogy but It did fine alone. I liked the book!

This is a sweet (and hot!) story. Family duties and expectations are a recurring theme. How do you balance them with what you want that will make you happy? Eamon faces this problem as Carla's wanderlust life inspires him. Carla faces the opposite problem. How to settle down with her father in his decline, despite his order for her to keep having adventures? Can they have a happily ever after when their lives and goals are polar opposites? I loved this story and plan to read its predecessor, Float Plan.

Trish Doller delivers another fun romance read! I liked the first two books in the series a little more than this one, but this was a great read that got me out of a rut. Enjoyed the characters, spending time with the characters from Float Plan, and reading about Ireland. Thank you to net galley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

After reading the first two books in this series, this one definitely falls a bit flat. Carla and Eamon’s relationship feels like lust at first sight and it’s hard to catch up to the supposedly deep feeling they develop. The characters just didn’t seem to have tons of depth, and neither did their relationship.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
