Thanks to St. Martin’s Griffin for the copy of this ARC.
I love this book series - I can always count on Trish Doller for a solid read and was really in the mood for a travel romance. This time, the story centers around Anna’s best friend Carla and Keane’s brother Eamon. While Carla wasn’t my favorite, I’m glad she finally came around to her senses in the middle of the book. Eamon, on the other hand, is just perfection and I could live in the Irish setting of this book with him and his family. The insta-love storyline was very different from Trish’s last books, but it worked well in this scenario. There is also a dementia storyline and lots of presence from our favorite characters from this series, so that was fun. I definitely could’ve used a few extra chapters!
What a sweet journey - I read this first but then immediately her other two so I can read more. Plus, I really want to go back to Ireland now.
What is it with books absolutely pulverizing my emotional state of being lately?!? I was completely unprepared for the last 30% of this book to be so hard to read. This is one of the few books I’ve read that I think would benefit from a trigger warning/heads up mentioned in the beginning of the book. While I have not been personally affected by anyone with dementia, I was still very heartbroken, reading some of what happens in the book. Credit to the author for her amazing writing and the care she put into such a sensitive topic.
That being said, I enjoyed this book enough to read it in one go, forsaking my body’s need for sleep. It was soooo good! My only beef with any of the characters was Carla. She comes across as a little self-centered. She does own it, and definitely grows by the end of the book… it was a little off, putting all the same. Now, Eamon on the other hand, I really do want to know why he is still single! He is completely dreamy!
100% recommend this book!!
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s for the ARC. All opinions expressed above are completely my own.
Living in the moment. That’s how I would describe the feeling of this book. We need to all live in the moment and enjoy life and go on an adventure and if you happened to meet someone that you have a connection with, go for it. I lenjoyed that this book was not too serious and made me laugh with the adventures of these two characters. I would definitely recommend this book as a spring/summer read
Carla lives a nomadic life, driving her Jeep - Valentina - and exploring the world. Whether surfing in Mexico, mudding in the swamps of Florida, or sleeping under the stars in national forests, she loves her life and lives for the adventures.
She travels to Ireland to stand up as Maid of Honor in her best friend's wedding, meeting up with the Best Man. Eamon is the groom's brother, and he has spent his childhood, and now adult life, being the responsible, reliable one.
Carla and Eamon collide and end up taking the long way to the wedding, camping in the mountains, off-roading on old train tracks, and surfing off the coast. Will going back to real life get in the way of their growing feelings for each other?
I loved Carla and Eamon. Their love story, while quick, was entirely believable, and didn't feel like insta-love at all. I laughed, I cried, I would absolutely recommend it.
*I received a digital ARC from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review
Oh my goodness, Carla and Eamon made me fall in love with their love story. Eamon was a kindred spirit to Carla, trapped in the life of a responsible businessman. Meanwhile Carla’s story of her life with Biggie had me in tears at times because you could feel the adoration from both sides in their relationship. Between the whimsy, the adventure, the sexiness, and the tough life lessons… I loved every minute of it.

This missed the mark for me. I enjoyed Doller's "Float Plan" and "The Suite Spot" & figured this would be more of the same, but it never took off -- the main character Carla just seemed UGHHGH - Here's a quote that sums her up: "I spent a couple weeks surfing in the southern part of Mexico... While I was there, I ate some mushrooms and had a psychedelic vision of a tattoo I ended up getting before I left."
Let.Me.Roll.My.Eyes.
Both the main characters/ love interests - Carla and Eamon - but especially Carla, seem hastily drawn, and extremely selfish - Carla starts lecturing Eamon's mother on what he wants after 5 minutes of knowing her and about 1 week of knowing him? Not to mention they're ignoring/blowing off their best friend's and brother's (respectively) wedding to go do some random travel shit that is just inherently Important and Meaningful. And there's a lot of filler - I don't need to know everything she packed & how she progressed through passport control at the airport...
Sure, we get a few redeeming moments of Carla with her father as he loses his battle with dementia.... but it just wasn't enough to salvage this one for me - the central relationship progressed at warp speed with very trite, somewhat unlikable characters.... just meh.
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for this opportunity to read as an eARC!
This book was such a fun read! I loved exploring the Ireland countryside with Carla and Eamon. Their adventures hiking, camping, exploring made me want to visit Ireland. It's definitely on my bucket list, however I know I won't be quite as adventurous as they were! Hahaha especially getting trapped by a bull in the rain!
I loved their passion, the character arcs and their personal stories. Trish Doller did a wonderful job tieing everything all together.
Carla and Eamon worked so well together, supporting each other with understanding and compassion and through their shared experiences they were able to make peace with their past.
Definitely recommend this book and the other's written by Trish Doller.
This book didn’t hit as hard for me as Doller’s first one, The Float Plan, but I still really enjoyed it. Off the Map started with a bang and got increasingly crazy as Carla and Eamon explored Ireland over a few days. Carla was, at times, a frustrating lead given how emotionally closed off she was. Doller did a great job of flushing out her character and developing her into someone who recognized her flaws and started to work at them. As a result, it was clear to see how Carla’s happiness and contentment grew. She was a little too abrasive for me to really enjoy her as a character, but I was definitely rooting for her. The ending was bittersweet and I enjoyed it most of all.
Oh my! If you liked Float Plan this one is a must read!!! This was sweet, adventurous, sentimental, and SPICY…all the things!
A fast and fun read for sure. Trish Dollar does it again! Perfection!
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for this opportunity to read as an ARC!
Vacation fling to forever lovers with tons of heart and depth! I luuurved this story.
Carla travels the world in her Jeep, only stopping when she needs to to earn money for more adventures. When she travels to Ireland for her best friend's wedding, the groom's brother is supposed to meet her and bring her to Tralee. They have an adventure on the way and even though Carla has a serious fortress protecting her heart, they also fall in love. Did I mention I also fell in love? Eamon is book boyfriend material!
-Best Man/Maid of Honor is one of my own relationship's tropes, so I can't help but love it!-These characters are into cars and spontaneous adventures. If you are into cars, car camping, or overlanding, then this book is going to be even better for you! And I enjoyed learning about it while also being a total homebody!
-I had some initial thoughts and vibes about Carla that made me not so sure she was my type-- she was definitely harsh and seemed to think her way of living was the right way. But then I realized all of those things that made me unsure about her were part of her fantastic growth arc. Trish knew what she was doing all along It's a slow burn for Carla's journey and I loved that.
-You do not have to read the other books in this series first, but I highly recommend them anyway. You'll also see and hear about the previous main characters in this book, so... just put Float Plan on your immediate tbr, you won't regret it.
-Trish Doller is such a good storyteller... the time flies by and I am so sucked into the book. I finished the second half in one sitting.
-This steam lover has appreciated the increase in spice in this series!! This is open door, but with a low/medium level of detail. Gorgeous chemistry.
-Grief. If you've read the other books in this series, then you know that this author does not shy away from heavy backstories and exploring grief on the page. The sad parts are balanced overall with funny moments too. Still laughing about what happens in the pasture (stays in the pasture).
-Yes I cried. It also made me think a lot about my grandparents, my parents, and their memory as they get older. Carla's dad has dementia. This book made me want to hug my parents very tight.
Thank you so much Netgalley and St. Martin's Press. All thoughts are my own!
I went into this book blind and absolutely loved it. This was so well written! I laughed, I cried, I felt all the feels. Carla is the ultimate cool chick and Eamon is…not, yet when he’s with her he matches her energy. They both become better because of the other person. There are many plot recaps here but I am going to refrain from any of that in hopes that you can experience this story how I did. Just read it :)
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.
I absolutely adored this book. Trish Doller has a way of storytelling that makes you want to experience life to the fullest, and to me, that's a very powerful thing. I loved the first two books in the series, but this was easily my favorite. I'm obsessed with both Eamon Sullivan and Carla Black and they worked so well together and complemented one another perfectly. The instalust to lovers trope fit the story and I was pleasantly surprised by the spiciness in this one. It was so great to see Anna and Keane (however, I wish we did get more Rachel and Mason). Carla and her dad's relationship hit really close to home and had me crying in multiple places.
Overall, this book was SO GOOD! It can definitely be read as a standalone, but reading the first two books will make it more satisfying.
I wish to thank NetGalley and St Martin's Press - Griffin for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book. I have voluntarily read and reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love the title of this very special fiction that speaks to the wanderlust in all of us. A young woman, Carla, travels to Dublin, Ireland for her best friend Anna’s wedding. When the best man, the groom’s brother meets her at the airport, they instantly bond and find they share a love to traveling off the grid and on their own. Instead of just going exactly to the wedding they wander the Irish countryside. They are both free spirits with no intent of permanent involvement. Eamon is a handsome, sexy Irishman with humor and a sense of fun that sets him apart from other men she has met. The author, Trish Doller, does a marvelous job of developing memorable characters to whom the reader can and will relate. She introduces us to a very special bull and a kitten that you will adore.
Carla has grown up with a single Dad after her mother left when she was very young. Her father doted on her and introduced her to off the grid traveling all over the world. Everything she learned from her father she incorporated into her own life choices. He taught her auto mechanics and camping skills and everything she needs to take care of herself.
Once I picked up this book I did not want to put it down but just wanted to keep reading it cover to cover. I highly recommend this book.
A heartfelt and gorgeous story of finally allowing yourself to fall in love and how those we love most can shape our lives. This book swept me up in the lush setting and the travel shenanigans, and I rooted for the couple so hard. The other plot point of her father's dementia was handled with grace and was so evocative and compelling. I found myself laughing and crying in multiple spots during this read. Highly recommend it with the warning that this is an emotional read dealing with memory loss and grief themes.
Thank you, Trish Doller for having Eamon and Carla jump in the sack by chapter 3, in a very hot and spicy love scene. I have no patience for "slow burn" romances.
Then, Carla and Eamon travel off-road in a Land Rover around Ireland. I loved living this adventure vicariously. It was so badass when she fixed his Land Rover.
I love how Carla works her ass off bartending, and then just takes off months to travel. I really enjoyed this book's journey both geographically and Carla's emotional journey to learn how to feel and connect in ways she never had before, and to come to terms with her dad's Alzheimers and imminent death. It's heartbreaking to watch Biggie's mind deteriorate, but it's also touching to see Carla enjoy what's left of their time together, and to make the best of a difficult circumstance. Trish Doller does a great job developing the characters and painting a scenery that makes the reader feel like you're really there on an adventure.
Doller has become an auto-read for me, and Off the Map is no exception. I love the vibrant settings- in this case, Ireland and Florida. You don’t have to read the first two books in the series, but I recommend doing so to fully appreciate this one. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I loved every second of this adventurous, broken, dirty, swoony, sad, book.
Trish Doller is quickly becoming a must-read contemporary romance author for me.
What a fabulous book. I love everything Trish Doller writes. Thanks to the publisher for the ARC. Highly recommend!
Carla Black is a full-time adventurer. She only works enough to support her traveling. She has spent her entire life on the move and never staying anywhere for long. She meets Eamon Sullivan while in Ireland for a wedding and the two have some road trip adventures with a side of romance. They couldn't be more opposite on paper, but the attraction between them is undeniable. This fling might end up changing both of them in ways they never saw coming.
Trish Doller's first two books, Float Plan and The Suite Spot are two of my all-time favorites so the bar was really high for this book and it lived up to every expectation. Doller does a great job with character development and evoking strong emotions. I always love to see how her characters grow throughout the course of the book. This book deals with some heavy topics and deciding when to run from the tough stuff and when to face it, which I think everyone can relate to. I devoured this book and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a book you just want to get lost in.
I will add a trigger warning that this book discusses dementia. As someone who has recently lost someone I love who suffered from dementia, there were parts of this book that were triggering, and some that were healing. Go into it with open eyes if you know someone with dementia and make sure you are in a good place to read this.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC of this book.
