The third “Beck Sisters” book is Carla’s (Anna’s BFF from Float Plan) Eamon’s (Keane’s brother) story. I enjoyed getting to know these characters better, they have immediate chemistry. While this is technically the third book it could be read out of order if one doesn’t mind some minor spoilers for how the first two end.
Carla and Eamon both have a soul for adventure and are drawn together by it. But they are also both at a cross roads in their respective lives and families and they are inspired by my each other choose their new paths.
I really enjoyed all the characters in this novel and really appreciated how well Trish Dollar understands and writes about grief and transformation. This is my third novel by her, and I really enjoyed it but it is my least favorite. I didn’t relate as well to Carla as I did to Rachel and Anna.

Carla is a world traveler who flies to Ireland to be the maid of honor in hear best friend's wedding. She meets Eamond at a pub, who is supposed to drive them both over to the wedding party. Carla and Eamond start talking and they connect immediately. They end up making a few detours (both mentally and physically) along the way to their destination.
This book was cute and really easy to read. It took me just a day to finish, which I love. It was a great palate cleanser to get me back in the mood for long reading sessions. I didn't particularly care for all of Instagram stuff, that always takes me out of a book. This book was very white though with no POC characters. Hopefully this is rectified in the next novel.
How did I not know this was #3 in a series until just now when I read the other reviews 🤣. That being said, the Author did a wonderful job setting everything up. I don't feel like I missed any back story, but I do know that I'm going to go back and read the other 2 books..

I really like Trish Doller’s books. Float Plan is one of my favorite reads of the last two years and it does such a good job of capturing Anna’s grief while still delivering an earned HEA with Keane. I also enjoyed The Suite Spot and Rachel’s journey (though not as much as Float Plan) as well as its way of untangling complicated family dynamics as an adult. In both books, Doller does such a good book of portraying visceral messy emotions and creating characters where you feel like you’re going through it with them. I cried while reading both.
When I got an ARC of Off the Map, the story of Anna’s best friend, Carla, and Keane’s brother, Eamon, who we meet in Float Plan, I was really excited. It’s not that this is a bad book. I enjoyed it. But compared to Doller’s other two adult romances, I was disappointed.
Carla is a world traveler. She bartends at a trashy Florida pirate-themed restaurant during high season in order to earn enough money to take off and explore the rest of the year. She prides herself on her rugged individualism; she can do auto repair and pay her own way, which means that she never needs to rely on others. She learned how to travel from her beloved dad, who raised her on his own. Every summer the two of them would take off and explore. Her dad has dementia now, so he stays home and Carla does the traveling. Eamon is Keane’s older brother, the responsible one. He lives in Dublin and works a respectable job, all the while longing to take off and explore. But that was always Keane’s role in the family, so Eamon feels stuck.
There are worthwhile serious themes in the book: Eamon's struggles with family dynamics and roles remind me of Rachel’s in The Suite Spot, and Carla travels to escape anticipatory grief. There’s also a genuine connection between Carla and Eamon, and you understand why they’re drawn to each other. However, the characters never felt as real as Doller’s other main characters, and part is that their choices didn’t feel believable, which were distracting and preventing me from fully investing. I understand the impulse to travel to escape, but Carla, who adores her father and lives in the same state as him for part of the year, hasn’t seen him in seven years. This beggars belief. The book explains it as her dad telling her he didn’t want to see him deteriorate, but this just didn’t seem realistic. The Carla we see wouldn’t have done that. And Eamon's big lifelong dream is to take his Defender (which he doesn’t know anything about) overland to Europe and Asia. He states this several times. But then at the book, he abandons that dream to travel with Carla in Central and South America. It mentions that he keeps his job and would connect with his team when he had wifi, but even in this time of “digital nomads”, there’s just no way that he’d be able to keep a full-time job while traveling in remote areas. Also, why does his resolution involve giving up his dream? Why can’t he be a consultant (thus solving the “how does he work full-time” puzzle) and the two of them explicitly plan to go to Europe and Asia in Eamon's car after living Carla’s dream?
Doller’s previous FMCs, Anna and Rachel, are likeable and flawed, and she clearly wants the reader to view Carla the same way. But the ways she makes Carla flawed just don’t add up to a likeable character and made me step out of the story and think about the logistics of what she did. Also, while I’m glad she and her father sorted things out, I kept wanting to yell, “GET SOME THERAPY, LADY!” Traveling isn’t a replacement for addressing issues.
The best part of the book is Carla and Eamon's easy rapport and impromptu road trip, and the glimpses of Anna and Keane (we get only a brief mention of Rachel and Mason and Maisie and I wanted more!). Again: this isn’t a bad book. But after Doller’s previous two efforts, the bar was raised, and this doesn’t meet it. I want more travel romances from Doller. But I want them better rooted in reality than this one.
*I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an obviously honest review.
Trish Doller has quickly made herself one of my favorite authors. I love how she mixes a heartfelt story with the romance and spice of the modern love story. Off the Map was a fast paced story that quickly hooked me in. While the characters were slightly unrelatable to me due to their spontaneous and laissez faire attitudes, I still quite enjoyed their tale. I did feel the ending was rushed. The third act break up was quickly rectified and due to the serious nature of this break up, I felt the ending deserved a bit more attention.
Overall, a lovely story!
Off the Map - quite a basic title. It is unassuming, and belies what this book is all about.
There is no way I was prepared for everything contained in these pages. I knew by chapter two, I was in for a wild ride. I had no idea how emotionally invested I would become in these characters, and how unforgettable they are to me.
Without spoiling your experience, there are big issues within this story, issues that are entirely relatable, human and real, that this author developed so well. I absolutely loved Eamon and Carla's dynamic, and appreciated her wanderlust, even if I was a bit jealous! What I wouldn't give to have been on half her travels...
Their relationship has great chemistry from the beginning, and I loved how it develops over time. Each of them needs what the other brings to the equation, and I absolutely loved their Happy Ever After.
I laughed, I cried. My heart broke. I smiled a lot. I was frustrated at Carla, and to a point, Biggie.
Seriously - all the feels!
The last few chapters were both heart breaking, as much as they were restorative and heart warming. I retain a few big "take aways" from this read, as I would wager anyone would, who finishes this one. And that is the mark of an excellent author.
I absolutely loved this read, recommend it highly, am glad I took the chance on this "new-to-me" author. If I could offer one hundred stars, I would. Seriously - one-click this book...right now!
I thank both Netgalley and St. Martin Publishing Group for my free ARC. I voluntarily and happily leave my review. I look forward the the next release from this talented author.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this eARC!
**Full transparency, I DNF'd at like 35% and only reviewing on 35% of the book I did read. **
It started out strong, charming, and I was enjoying the characters. However, it just started to get boring and I didn't want to read it. I've never read anything else by this author and I just don't think I vibed with their style of writing is all. That being said, I will read them again in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing an advance copy of this title for review. All opinions are my own and are honestly given.
In Off the Map, rolling stone Carla Black meets steady-but-yearning-for-advanture Eamon Sullivan when they carpool to the wedding of Anna (Carla’s best friend) and Keane (Eamon’s brother). Taking the scenic route to their destination, Eamon and Carla’s fast-burning chemistry quickly boils over into a vacation fling as they visit some of Ireland’s most beautiful destinations; unexpectedly, however, they also find in each other more than just adventure— Eamon helps Carla work through her grief over her father’s progressively advancing Alzheimer’s disease, and free-spirited Carla gives Eamon the courage to follow his dreams.
I love Trish Doller’s books and how she always seems to strike the perfect balance between the characters’ individual growth arcs and their growth together as a couple. Carla and Eamon were both wonderful characters— warm, compellingly drawn but also struggling with some very real issues. Although they do get together as a couple rather quickly in the narrative, they complement and support each other so well in each character’s individual growth arc that their romance feels solid and entirely earned. As always with Doller, Off the Map was beautifully written and an engaging read. All in all, I would definitely recommend for readers that enjoy romance with strong character growth, poignant romance, and Doller’s previous novels. In addition to adding it to the collection, I think this book would also make a good book club selection. 4.25 stars.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an eARC of Off the Map by Trish Doller.
This is the third book in a series. I absolutely LOVED the first book. (Float Plan, if you haven't read it, GO READ IT NOW). Although Off the Map could be. stand alone book, I think having the basis from Book 1 is very helpful. I do NOT think Book 2(The Suite Spot) is required at all for this book.
Carla and her father travelled every summer when she was young. Now she has continued the wonderlust by working for about 4 months of the year in order to support her travel throughout the year. She truly works to live.
Eamon is instead working to live, but has the desire to travel. He wants to go overland and travel. Meeting up with Carla is just the spark he needs to start his adventure. They don't need each other, but they do.
This is a book about taking a leap and living, but not forgetting your roots too.
Absolutely fantastic plot! Could not put the book down once I began reading it. Cannot wait for it to be released. Will recommend it to everyone I know!
3.75 Irish wedding stars
I went into this book not realizing it was #3 in a series, I liked it so much that I’m going back to read the previous two now! I was intrigued by this one as a romance with an Irish setting.
Carla Black has a lot on her plate with a cherished father suffering from Alzheimer’s. Her dad has sent her out to find adventure through travel, not sit at home watching him deteriorate. She works as a bartender just long enough to bank some money to travel.
Now she’s off to Ireland for her best friend’s wedding and Eamon is picking her up to drive to the wedding. The two have never met and they hit it off in spectacular fashion! Soon they are headed off on an adventure and may not make it to the wedding!
This was a quick enjoyable read with some substance. I liked Trish Doller’s writing style and character development.
I would recommend this to anyone and everyone. This is a well written love story with a perfect meet cute, likable characters and deeper themes that explored so many more emotions. It is a great portrayal of family love and friendship love and romantic love. It shows how sometimes loving someone is the hardest thing you can do, but completely worth it.
I cannot wait to read her other books.
I loved Eamon as a book boyfriend.
I really liked the growth Carla makes throughout Off the Map as she reconnects with her father who is slowly losing his memories of their time and travels together.
I found myself Googling every place mentioned in Off the Map therefore traveling vicariously with Eamon and Carla.

There is something special about those books that both make you laugh and cry. This was one of those books for me and I just loved it. When Carla meets Eamon, the best man at the wedding where she will be maid of honor, and is instantly attracted to him she expects a quick wedding fling to occur and not much else. However Eamon is distractingly more than she bargained for. He understands, and even envies, her nomadic life. The two find themselves taking detour after detour on the way to the wedding spending time together and forcing Carla to look at what her wandering both brings her and takes away from her.
A lovely cast of characters, an untypical ramble through Ireland, and a story that made me swoon and yanked at my heartstrings, this may have been my favorite in this series so far- not that it matters when all of the books have been so wonderfully good.

Carla lives life on the edge. Constantly traveling and exploring to escape her father’s progressive mental decline. She finds herself in Ireland for her best friends, Anna's (from Float Plan) wedding to Keane. Meeting the best man, Keane’s brother Eamon, at a local pub, there relationship starts of on fire and continues to burn as they find themselves going on adventures together… but Carla doesn’t do relationships, she doesn’t let her emotions get involved. Will Eamon be different?
I think I can say, this is my favorite book so far by Trish Dollar - Float Plan originally. I can mostly write fondly of the characters and their chemistry and the exhilaration of their adventures. It was a quick entertaining, romance novel.
A few things that rubbed me the wrong way. Carla's views on sex and that "I am strong independent woman, so I can sleep with whomever I want just for sex and to scratch an itch. Leaving them behind." I find that disturbing, that women consider that empowering - yes, I do think Carla considered it as empowering for how often she brought it up. I understand it’s because “she is emotionally disconnected because that is way her father taught her to be,” but she’s convinced herself that it will make her happy and she’ll just do it again. On that topic, this book had a lot more graphic sex scenes than her other novels. A little more spicy.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC. I enjoyed the novel, overall. Might be a good book club book.
I enjoy Trish Doller's books because her main characters are adventurous, badass women who have usually encountered some kind of hardship in life and don't let that get them down. I thought the relationship between the daughter and her father with alzheimer's was treated beautifully. And while this book mentions characters from Doller's previous two novels, you don't have to have read those novels to enjoy this one.
Off the Map did nothing to quench my unending desire to visit Ireland. Romance and beautiful scenery? Yes please. Trish Doller is so, so good at crafting stories of wandering souls and international travels, and this book illuminates that skill with off road adventures (including an errant bull), an ice cold waterfall, and some coastal surfing.
There’s so much to love here, including a rounded cast of characters coming together for a wedding in the Irish countryside. It focuses on Carla Black, who is traveling to escape and Eamon Sullivan, who has yet to leave his home. There is instantly a spark between the two, who are road trip partners to the wedding, but at the heart of it, is a very gentle and tender relationship. Eamon and Carla pull each other out of their shells and discover that they both have some growing to do.
This book definitely made me emotional, and please note content warnings for dementia and loss of parents. It handles the topics with sensitivity and care. If you can’t find me, it’s because I’ve rented a keep and taken it to find some small villages amongst the pastures in Ireland. Thanks to NetGalley for an early review copy, all opinions are my own.
There is nothing better than getting an arc to a book you didn't even know was finished yet.!! A big thank you for this advanced read. Float Plan was a favourite of mine and I was beyond excited to read Off the Map. The third installment in the Beck sisters series very much follows the first two: An unexpected love in a charming locale with a character who carries a heaviness around like a backpack. I loved checking in on Keane and Anna in this adorable and heartwarming read.
This was such a wonderfully whimsical story about two people getting out of their own way. I adored Carla and her carefree, adventurous lifestyle - something I had always wanted to do, myself, as an outdoor enthusiast. I loved the initial scene between Eamon and Carla and couldn't stop reading from their very first meeting. The steamy scenes were exceptionally well done and exactly what you want in a romance. This was an easy read and perfect for adventurers of the heart and the land. You'll fall in love with Carla and Eamon!
I loved this books. It is my favorite read of the year. Carla is traveling to Ireland for her best friend’s wedding. She is to travel to the destination with the best man, Eamon. Carla is a world traveler and shared some of her stories with the dependable Eamon who secretly longs to travel. When Carla finds this out, she talks Eamon into taking a little detour along the way and a fun-filled adventure ensues. Off the Map is a wonderful story about two people who learn not only about each other, but about themselves as well.
I won’t lie, I pretty much screamed when I got the email to review this book early. This has been my favorite series to read. I seriously can’t get enough of the Beck Sisters. I am not ready for this series to be over. This book had me feeling all the emotions. I absolutely loved Carla and Eamon, and thought they were so great together. I loved the adventures in this story and Carla’s relationship with her dad was the sweetest. I don’t usually like the insta-love trope, but I felt like it worked well in this book. If you haven’t read this series yet, I highly recommend it!
