Wow! What an absolute masterpiece. Such powerful and theologically sound doctrine that was so refreshing to read. Though Kempis penned this book hundreds of years ago, it feels as though it was written for today. The content is very applicable. His heart for Christ really shows through his writing. His ability to touch the reader is superb. This is a wonderful work of literature that should be returned to often to reread and meditate on the truths included.
This is one of my favorite books, and I have gained much wisdom in re-reading it again. The Imitation of Christ is in my top 5 religious/spiritual texts for anyone hoping to grow in faith. This translation, however, is not my favorite. The translation I read years ago was in modern English and really spoke to me. This translation has way too many thees and thous and "th"s stuck on the back of verbs for my tastes.
Five stars for content, one star for translation, averaged out to a 3.
