This was an unexpectedly great read! It was an excellent political thriller. I was captivated by the story from beginning to end. There are many surprises throughout and I finished it in two days.
Thank you to NetGalley and Morgan James Fiction for providing me with an ARC of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
Blake Hudson is a lawyer working alongside the attorney general who becomes part of a counter-terrorism group.
But when the group mysteriously disbands, Blake is left with a target on his back.
Thoughts:
This book was fantastic. A political thriller, this book made you feel like you were right in the middle of the action.
Being a part of the US Justice department never sounded so thrilling.
You also got the sense the author somewhat knew his subject matter from some of the little details that were added along the way.
Scavenger hunt is a political / legal thriller that follows our main character, Blake Hudson. Blake works for the office of the attorney general. After a suicide bomber parachutes into a sports stadium and sets off a bomb killing countless people, Blake finds himself thrust into a four person covert team named ‘operation scavenger hunt’. Soon Blake finds himself caught up in a dangerous whirlwind of plots, treachery and accusations as chaos ensues.
The last third of the book was action pact with twists, revelations and fast moving suspense, causing the reader to quickly turn the pages and tie all the loose ends together.
Although this isn’t my go to genre, I found our MC very likeable, entertaining and witty. And of course Judge is lovable as well. There is plenty of action and adventure in this book so I would recommend for those who like to be kept on the edge of their seat.
This is the authors debut novel, and he did an excellent job in the presentation of the story and the attention to detail in the plot. The heavy presence of legal jargon seemed to be accurate and legitimate. As a reader who isn’t familiar with the lingo I found i was able to quickly ease into the vocabulary and follow along with no issues.
I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys suspense, action, and legal thriller genres. Averaging 300 pages this is a nice quick read. If you like to sit and finish a book in one day, this could be the perfect read for you!
Plenty of details are included in this spy thriller which always make for a more plausible reading experience. I liked the writing style very much and felt the author brought a touch of humour and did not take himself too seriously, which was really refreshing for the genre.

Exciting and riveting even when read to me by the TTS robot!
The publisher's blurb does a creditable job, so no recap needed here. The writing and characters had me reading the book straight through to the end. Some of the riskier parts had me looking around corners expecting to find the spirit of Bill Donovan.
I requested and received an EARC from Morgan James Fiction via NetGalley. Thank you!
Scavenger Hunt Chad Boudreaux
An interesting twist on the black ops/espionage thriller genres from more of a political point of view. The main character is an attorney working for an off the books group of operators that targets terrorists. The group disbands he is suddenly the fall guy. He scrambles to keep alive and figure out what is happening.
A great debut! Interesting perspective from the Department of Justice which is not often seen. Looking forward to more from Chad Boudreaux.

Scavenger Hunt is a first novel by Chad Boudreaux. It is a political thriller that will force the reader to constantly turn pages. The action is centered mostly in Washington, DC although there are many scenes depicting action and intrigue in China, Iran, Mexico and Pakistan. The main character is a charismatic attorney working in the office of the Attorney General who becomes one of the members of a 4 person team known as Operation Scavenger Hunt. He unwittingly becomes involved in various nefarious plots and actually finds himself in delicate situations which put his life in peril.
The writing is excellent. Mr. Boudreaux’s phrasing is memorable, especially in descriptions such as “…suit sewn together before the invention of the microwave oven.” The book was a pleasure to read and I thank NetGalley and Morgan Jones Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this novel prior to publication. I look forward to many more novels from Chad Boudreaux.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from Morgan James Fiction and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
A page-turner with characters who are relatable and true to the genre.
Scavenger Hunt by first time author Chad Boudreaux is a thrill packed novel. Excellent in detail and authenticity, it is about Blake Hudson who is lawyer for the Justice Department. He is assigned to a secret counter-terrorism organization. After a few successful missions, all of a sudden Blake has lost touch with every member, and soon finds that people are trying to kill him. Excellent twists and turns as Chad tries to solve the mystery of what has happened.
With everything going on in our country, it is a good look at the nuts and bolts of working at the Justice Department and makes one wonder – is this really fiction?
