Catch Her in a Lie is a short story that sets the stage and introduces the characters in Jess Lourey’s The Taken Ones. I read them out of order and read the Taken Ones first. The Taken Ones gives you most of the same information.

I highly recommend the Taken Ones. It was an excellent thriller with great characters.

I received this galley from NetGalley.

Catch Her in a Lie is a fun short story by Jess Lourey that is actually part of a Gateway Collection but can easily be a stand alone book.

Patty and her daughter Gwen travel to Costa Rica and we know pretty early they are running from something, but we don't really know what. Soon we meet two BCA agents, Van and Harry. The plot moves pretty quickly to murder and the ending is not what you expect.

You might want to read this book and every other book that Jess Lourey has ever written!

Thank you to NetGalley and Jess Lourey for an early copy of this book. This is an honest review and I would read it again.

Wow.. that was one intense story. Jess Lourey is such a good author. I read this one in half a day. Of course it's a short story but still... Very good.

A woman on the run with her young daughter. Her young daughter is fourteen but has the mind of a child half that age due to circumstances at birth. Patty loves her daughter, Gwen, more than anything or anyone. There is nothing she will not do for her.

Two detectives, Van and Harry, are on the case of what could possibly be a serial killer dubbed the "sweet tea killer" by the press. They go from Minnesota to Costa Rica following who may be the murderer. I was taken completely by surprised with the revealing of the murderer. My mind just did not go there at all.

This book is about a touchy subject but no details so no triggers. It's about a reason for something to happen. Why the person did what they did. I think justice was served myself. I also hope to hear more from Van(Evangeline) and Harry. They do make a great team.

This book is so good y'all. It truly has the makings for a much longer story. I understand it's a short story but still.. Maybe?? Or a series.

Thank you to #NetGalley, #JessLourey, #AmazonOriginalStories for this ARC. This is my own true thoughts about this book.

5/5 big huge stars. I highly recommend it. Also it's part of a series by several different authors but is also a stand alone. Grab it and read it.

I received an early access copy thanks to the author, Jess Lourey, and NetGalley.

Catch Her in a Lie is a short story that left me wanting more and which I can see having potential turning into a full novel. The plot focuses on two law enforcement officers who are tracking a mother and daughter from Minnesota to Costa Rica because of a serial killer.

I must say, I was NOT expecting the ending. For whatever reason, I went into the mind sight that this story would have some fantasy aspects to it…I was wrong!

Now the question is…who really is Evangeline Reed?

Serial killer. Mother and daughter on the run? Backdrop of Costa Rica. This short story has a lot packed into the pages and it is one that will be read in one short sitting which is sometimes the perfect way to spend an hour or so.

Meet Evangeline (Van) Reed (cold case expert) and Harry Steinbeck ( forensics expert) in the case of a lifetime as they leave the comfort (???) of Minneapolis and pursue the truth in solving a case that has enough darkness and intrigue to keep any thriller / mystery fan engaged. No spoilers in this review but suffice it to say I really like the way the author's mind works when she crafts a story.

Author Jess Lourey draws her readers into the dark and dramatic as she weaves an enthralling tale in the 5th installment of her Getaway series. Highly recommend this title for those out there that love a good suspenseful story with great characters of substance.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a free ARC for my honest review.
