Holy crap on a cracker, I was totally into this. Queer SLEEPY HOLLOW? Sign me up. The original myth, while spooky, definitly lacks in representation, but this interpretation of the myth was SO FREAKING GOOD. The characters, the art... everything was perfect for a cozy, somewhat spooky fall read.

"Hollow" is a fun and mysterious story.

I requested this because it was labeled as Queer and that's literally all I want. The story it self was interesting and I didn't saw the plot coming.

The drawing style and the choosen colours really matched the story.

I liked all three of the main characters and how different they were from each other. I also really enjoyed the different representations through out the story (Latina lesbian mc, Latina lesbian mc, sapphic relationship, disabled sc, Korean American sc, Latina sc).

The end felt a bit rushed and I would have enjoyed it more if there were a few more pages.

I would recommend this to everyone who likes Halloween and mysterious storys!

This is a fun mystery Halloween graphic novel. Halloween is my favorite holiday so I love reading spooky books. What’s even better is if its also queer. We need more queer Halloween books (and media in general). So I instantly requested this once I saw it’s a sapphic Halloween book. It did not disappoint. It’s got spooky mystery scenes/vibes, light funny scenes and a sapphic romance subplot. It also has diverse characters. The art was really nice as well. What more can you ask for.

I would recommend this book if you’re a fan of Halloween and cute but spooky books.

This was a fun and easy fall read. Its a super cute story for teens and young adult readers. Not something I'll probably read again but definitely something I'll recommend to others!

This was great! I have read a previous book by this author and really liked it, and this didn’t disappoint! Super fun graphic novel and I will definitely be picking up a physical copy!

This comic is definitely cute. A butch Latina teen, Isabel Crane, moves to the town of Sleepy Hollow, a town that makes bank on its old spooky legend of the headless horsemen. There, she meets local high school goof classmate Crocodile and the irresistibly beautiful Victoria Van Tassel, who is chafing under the legacy of being the heir to the Van Tassel family and having the whole town wanting her to represent the role from the famous legend. But when evil forces come for Victoria, trying to protect the girl she's rapidly fallen for will bring Izzy face to face with the headless horseman himself.

Note: I won't be giving comments on the art, which I usually do on graphic novels, because the ARC version's art had heavy jpg artifacting. I assume this will be resolved in the final release.

I'm not entirely sure who the intended demographic of this graphic novel was. The plot was middle grade -- an evil villain whose sole motivation was to bring down the Van Tassel family (and was literally named Tenebrous), a goofy talking pumpkin, and plans to try to overcome him that involve things like "throw hot dog water at him so our dog grabs his jacket", which definitely has no possible weak spots. On the other hand, the characters are all high schoolers, and there is implied (of the 'fade to black, cut in the next day with them in bed in their underwear' style) sex, which makes me think it's more meant to be aimed at older teens.

The storyline bounced quickly from plot point to plot point -- the characters all had hints of things that made them interesting (I thought Victoria probably had the most compelling storyline) but it all moved too fast for any development; Izzy had barely moved to school before she had a best friend and a girlfriend. When they fought, because there was no room to include any earlier hints of the resentments they expressed, it felt like it came out of nowhere. It's possible the authors were working under a tight chapter/issue limit -- I know I've seen similar things in other Boom! Box comics like Save Yourself, where it has an interesting core but rapidly the need to fit in the whole plot into the approved number of issues outstrips the need to develop the characters into the role they have to play.

Generally cute and fun -- I 'd recommend it to a more mature young reader, or to a young-at-heart younger teen.

Enter Sleepy Hollow royalty, Vicky Van Tassel, and resident prankster Croc Byun, and the three get caught up in a curse that has been plaguing the town- and the Van Tassel family- for years. Will they be able to stop the curse before it's too late?
I actually have never read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, so I didn’t pick up on all the little Easter eggs throughout the story, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this book.
I LOVE Lumberjanes with all my heart, so when I saw this was by Shannon Watters, I knew I needed to read it. The story had the same kind of vibe as Lumberjanes, which I really enjoyed. It was funny, but also interesting and had a good mystery. The illustrations were a bit fuzzy (which is an issue I’ve had with NetGalley graphic novel ARCs before), but they were really cute and I’m excited to see a final, print version. Overall, this is just a really fun read.

I didn't have any previous knowledge about the Headless Horseman myth but I can say I am utterly in love with Hollow and its characters and I simply couldn't stop reading after I started this story.
Ok, so Hollow follows the story of Izzy Crane, new girl in town, who's adjusting to Sleepy Hollow and its curious residents, such as Vicky Van Tassel and Croc Byun, who complete our trio of protagonists. And, of course, besides all that, there's a headless horseman around the town with a mysterious objectif and it's up to our protagonists to solve this mystery!
First, I need to talk about the characters, they're all so fun! At first, I thought I wouldn't be able to get attached to them, since I kinda have this problem with comics, but then I was already so in love with the three of them without even realizing!! (also IZZY IN LOVE IS JUST LIKE ME!!!!!!!). The romance subplot also really warmed my heart and made me giggle like a schoolgirl every time they interacted. AND CROC MY BELOVED. At first, I thought he would be just the annoying jock and maybe a bully but I AM SO GLAD I WAS WRONG BECAUSE I LOVE HIM MORE THAN ANYTHING NOW. I related too much to Vicky sometimes and I don't think that's ok at all but I'm fine (lie).
The pace of the story was very well controlled, which I think it's a big compliment since with a plot like that It could easily go too fast and make the readers confused but the authors could develop the story very well.
The only problem I had was because of the quality of the eARC since some parts were difficult to read, but besides that it was such an amazing adventure and I already miss Sleepy Hollow and Croc and Izzy and Vicky.

I requested this ARC because I have always enjoyed Lumberjanes, and this one falls in the same delightful category. I think this comic would also appeal to anyone who liked Pumpkinheads. It has the same sense of fall, Halloween, with a charming small town and high school vibe. There are some scares, but the overall vibe is not scary but whimsical. I liked the twist on the Headless horseman and the friendship that builds alongside the main romance(s). If I had any complaints, it would be the ending felt a bit out of nowhere with new powers and there was never any real feel of threat or that the protagonists would not win. However, the rest of the book easily made up for that and the art was adorable. I recommend for anyone looking for a fun, Halloween romance, light on the scares with high school romance and hijinks.

The artwork in this was absolutely stunning, and the story was fantastic too Loved this graphic novel!

I was so pleasantly surprised by this graphic novel! I was not really a fan of Lumberjanes when I read it a few years ago so I was wary of this, but now I know that I had no reason to be! I loved the character relationships and having actually seen Sleepy Hollow as of February this year, I was able to mostly sleep up with the story. However, it is worth noting you need to have read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow or at least to have watched the film to make any sense of this. I was confused at times as I am not super familiar but I can only imagine how confusing this might be for anyone who has read/seen nothing of the original story.

A stated previously though, I really did have a great time with this graphic novel, I looked forward to Vicky’s changing outfits and each character’s interactions. I loved how the romance developed and I laughed out loud multiple times while reading (my favourite part was with the frogs and the crickets lmao).

Yeah idk, I just thought the whole thing was super cute and fun, and I would definitely like to buy a finished copy in October!

I adored this graphic novel and consumed it in one sitting. Hollow takes place generations after the events in Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” It follows Isabel “Izzy” Crane as she adjusts to a new lifestyle in Sleepy Hollow, befriending Victoria Van Tassel and prankster Croc and solving mysteries left and right.

As someone who loves “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” I am happy to say Hollow is an imaginative, wholesome, and diverse take on the tale. The healthy friendships and queer romance melted my heart. The illustrations blend the coziness of autumn and the creepiness of legend together beautifully, making it a great read for spooky season. I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here. If you liked the graphic novels Mooncakes and Garlic and the Vampire, then you will love Hollow.

Sleepy Hollow retelling where they hometown of the headless horseman embraces him as a mascot. The cast of characters are very diverse, with similar names to the names we're familiar with. Izzy in place of Icabod. etc. I wish the art were clearer, that is possibly just an issue with the eARC. I'm sure it will look great in print. I loved the spooky vibes and the direction they went. It's set in a high school, so it's more YA. Not too terrifying, just a little eerie. Which is exactly what Sleepy Hollow is.

I love the Headless Horseman myth, so when ibsaw there was a fun new graphic novel, and that it was LGBTQIA+ I could not pass this up.

It was so much fun! I absolutely loved it. The illustrations were stunning and the story so much fun. I loved all the characters, the Headless Horseman was a crack up, and Izzy was just awesome.

Though Izzy has no time for superstition, she finds herself haunted by the Horseman himself, uncovering a curse set on destroying her new friend, Vicky Van Tassel's, line.

I thought Hollow was a super fun and easy read especially going into the Halloween season! I felt that even if you weren't familiar with the Sleepy Hollow legend there were context clues to help figure out what was going on. I would definitely read more from this duo in the future!

This graphic novel is a modern twist on the classic tale of “Sleepy Hollow". I read through this in one sitting- it’s a cozy, fast-paced story, and will satisfy any fall vibes you are craving! My favorite aspect of this story was how diverse the cast of characters was, filled with a lot of representation and included an LGTBQIA+ romance. The art style perfectly matched this retelling and the Halloween season- I absolutely loved the Headless Horseman. However, I do wish that the characters were more developed. The relationship felt especially fast and the characters were all surface, including the villain, which made me feel disconnected from any of the emotional or pivotal moments.

This was a fun, modern twist on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, starring high school kids and a not-so-scary Headless Horseman! Hollow is quick read with beautiful artwork and a diverse cast of characters.

Reading HOLLOW was the perfect seasonal treat to get me in a fall state of mind (which can be difficult when you live in Florida). Now that I have read it, the spooky season has officially started.

The book explores the Legend of Sleepy Hollow from the perspective of a group of teens (one a newcomer) living in the aforementioned town. When the headless horseman himself appears, they have to figure out how to stay safe -- and how to get him out. The story explores the relationships between the characters (and I do mean relationships, wink wink) as much as the spooks and scares of the horseman.

The novel had the prettiest, softest illustrations, which perfectly complimented the diverse cast of characters and the heartfelt story. I appreciated the excellent LGBTQI+ representation, which was part of the main story and not just a hint or subplot. Overall, I was completely spellbound. The only thing that would make it better would be more conversations and interactions between characters, but I always feel that way about graphic novels. Some of the detail I crave is sacrificed for the gorgeous artwork.

I'd give it 9/10 stars and recommend it to anyone looking for some spooky, heartwarming, inclusive fun.

“Hollow” puts a modern twist with LGBTQIA+ representation on the popular “Sleepy Hollow” tale. Not only that, it’s in graphic novel form so that you get some fun visualizations that make this new retelling even more imaginative.

The book follows Izzy Crane as her family relocates to Sleepy Hollow after her mom gets an amazing opportunity in the town’s Michelin Star restaurant. Once there, Izzy realizes how much much the story of the Headless Horseman is engrained into the town’s history and traditions, especially after meeting Vicky Van Tassel, descendent of Katrina Van Tassel. While Vicky is considered a hometown icon, she hates the expectations put on her and and wants to chart her own path in life.

While Izzy is a skeptic of all things supernatural, things change once she comes face to face with the Headless Horseman. After a standoff, she realizes that this perceived villain is actually just trying to help protect Katrina, but has never had the chance to explain because he’s been feared for so long. Adding in Croc, the school prankster into the mix, the trio help the Headless Horseman unravel the mystery around a ghastly being who’s wreaking havoc on the town with Katrina as his main focus of his evil deeds.

I really enjoyed it, and liked the love story between Izzy and Katrina throughout. Since there are multiple illustrators, the illustrations sometimes have weird juxtapositions from one frame to another. They’re not bad, but it’s super noticeable when they’re all intwined together. There were a few points where I had to stop and make sure that these were the same characters that I was following because they looked so different.


This is going to be a new seasonal favorite for me to get into those spooky fall vibes! I hope they add more to this series down the line.
