Started a little slow, but after a few chapters, I was hooked. A great first book to start the series. I really enjoyed the banter between the guys and between Will and Lucy. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
This is book 1 of Kasper Ridge.
Lucy and Will have such a great chemistry and wow they give off firework vibes.
Amazing storyline and wonderfully written.
This book really captured me.
It has a combination of drama, mystery and suspense and emotions.
This book has a fresh view of heart and temptation.
Lucy owns a construction company in Kasper Ridge, Colorado.
She gets a new project, restoring a hotel to its former glory.
She knows she will finish the project successfully but what she didn't count on what the owner's former Navy pals coming to help.
Will wants to get out from beneath is father's domineering thumb. Then the perfect opportunity shows up: helping his friend Archie.
He is managing the project with Lucy.
But will they be able to finish it successfully without their attraction interfering?
They both want to their work to be taken seriously.
I was meant to find this author and I am so happy I did. I will be reading more.
I liked really seeing the progression of the relationship and not just acting on hot chemistry.
A cute romance. I liked the array of characters with their own personalities. A nice bit of humour, but also some growth of our main characters. I enjoyed the mystery subplot and look forward to seeing how that progresses. The final conflict at the end was a little bit of a stretch for me, as it really felt like it stemmed from lack of communication and poor self esteem. Overall, an enjoyable story. *I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.
As I was getting into this story, I felt as though it wasn’t truly the first in a series. It wasn’t as though I was missing anything important, but some of the characters were referenced in a way to seem they had their own stories told already. Plus, there is an element in this story about a treasure that, although easy to follow regardless of what backstory I had, seemed to be something I should already know a bit about. After finishing this book I looked into it and, sure enough, there is a novella to kick this series off. (As of 9/14/22 it’s free on Kindle. I don’t know if that will be a temporary deal or not.)
As I said, I didn’t feel like I was missing any crucial piece of the puzzle. Especially when it pertained to Lucy and Will. Yet I still had a bit of a struggle with the couple, mostly in the beginning. Because they were doing a job, and technically Will was Lucy’s boss, and Will was likely to leave town after the job ended, there were a lot of “rules” that both were trying to adhere to. A lot of reflection on why they shouldn’t start a relationship. It was, quite frankly, getting old. Thankfully, when they got over themselves a bit, their chemistry finally started to come through. Although oddly enough for the type of reader I usually am, the intimate scenes didn’t hit right for me. I didn’t feel the heat between Lucy and Will when they were between the sheets but felt it more when they were flirting and ribbing one another.
This series does seem as though it will get quite interesting with the hidden treasure aspect that is weaving through the books. While so far I like all of the characters individually, I don’t know if I’m sold on them as a group. They are lacking that little something that is needed to pull a group like this together. Since I can tell the novella I haven’t yet read does even contain most of these people, I’m looking at this story as the introduction to the group and hope they’ll have more cohesion as the series progresses.
This story was really fun and adorable. Will and Lucy have an undeniable connection that’s both playful and steamy.
I loved the underlying mystery and the resort that unites everyone together. It’s a low angst, easy read that will definitely keep a smile on your face!
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for providing a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.
Such a delightfully fun and cute romantic comedy! I was pulled into the story right from the beginning and completely engrossed till the end. Lucy owns a construction company and will be working on Kasper Ridge Resort right in her hometown. Will is a construction manager and comes to town to help manage the construction project. The connection and attraction between them is immediate but they each have their own perception issues which cause a bit of a hindrance in their relationship. I did enjoy seeing their relationship overcome this and grow into something more.
The book definitely left me with a smile on my face and a happy feeling afterwards. The characters were interesting and well-developed with realistic qualities that gave them an authentic personality and were easily relatable. The story was delightfully cute and I really enjoyed it. If you're looking for a fun, quick and light read, that will put a smile on your face then you definitely will want to pick this one up.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Working in a male dominated industry means that it seems that Lucy always has to prove herself. Lucy knows what she’s doing on the job site and in life and staying in Kasper Ridge is the only option. Will feels like his life is stagnant and he’s not getting anywhere continuing to work for his dad after leaving the Navy. When his squadron buddy calls him and asks him to come to Kasper Ridge and work on his hotel restoration, Will jumps at the chance to do something for himself but he didn’t expect to meet Lucy. Lucy surprised Will in so many ways both professionally and personally; she understood him and made him realize he found the place he wanted to be but did Lucy feel the same way?
Only A Fling is the first book in the Kasper Ridge series about a group of Naval pilots, the ongoing hotel restoration, and a mysterious treasure hunt. Lucy and Will compliment each other well-they challenge each other, validate their experiences and support each other. This is a quick and easy reading book and the added mystic behind the treasure hunt has me adding the other books in the series to my ever growing tbr.
Thank you @netgalley and publishers for this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
This was a fun book, the angst was real and kept you on the edge of your seat
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advanced copy of the book.
Only a Fling is the first book in the Kasper Ridge series by Delancey Stewart. There is a prequel to this series, Only a Summer, but it is not necessary to have read it before this book since it features different characters- but does give a little more to part of the mystery that is at play throughout this story.
Will and Lucy have a cute and not overly angsty workplace romance. Will came to Kasper Ridge filled with determination and high hopes at overseeing the renovations of the old ski resort that his former military friend, Archie, had inherited from his great uncle. Lucy had taken over her grandfather's construction company and was vying for the bid on the resort that would take her company to an all new level.
I enjoyed the instant chemistry between these two. The attraction was there though it was a long road for them to act on it. Lucy kept herself guarded, knowing that no one comes to the small mountain town to stay forever- the most she could hope for was a fling. Will was sweet and a little cocky but ultimately their personalities were pretty well matched.
Overall, Will and Lucy were fun and sweet... I'm curious to see how the rest of the series will go.
I loved this book. The angst between the couple was so authentic and I loved the main characters relationship. I mean is anything better than a work place/boss romance. Talk about swoon worthy. These two were a dynamic duo and I cannot wait to read more by the author.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
The very first thing that I noticed about this book is that the chapters have titles! I love that ❤️ No one does that any more!
I’m all for a female HBIC story, especially when men constantly underestimate her abilities.
Very good with keeping the points of view clear, that’s very important!
Will needs to hire a construction company, and it just so happens that Lucy is the foreman of the one she picks. The 2 butted heads in the beginning but soon became a little more than coworkers …
I enjoyed reading this book. It was a very easy, quick read and it was a nice distraction from everyday life.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Delancey Stewart Books for my ARC in exchange for an honest review 💕
This appears to be a republished copy of a book that was released early this year. I didn't realize that when I requested it and I had already read this book.
I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series. I thought Lucy and Will had great chemistry and watching their sparks fly was fun. The writing was well done and the storyline captured and kept my interest easily. A wonderful combination of emotion, drama, heart, mystery and suspense flows smoothly across the pages to deliver a very satisfying reading experience. This is my independent, impartial review.
This book was both cute and steamy. Lucy Dale (FMC) was a fiesty, stubborn, independent spitball who won’t take no nonsense from anyone! I loved her. I may have even related to her quite a bit. It didn’t take long for pretty city boy Will to unravel her defences and get under her skin. Their connection and chemistry was everything, but could a retired Navy pilot, dreamboat hotshot really find a reason to put down roots and settle in a small town? Or will this only be a fling? That is Lucy’s biggest question. I loved having the duo point of view throughout this love story.
Read if you enjoy enemies to lovers, workplace romance, small town romance, Top Gun fighter pilots, Renovation stories with a little hidden treasure twist.
Steamy, open door.
I really liked this one! It’s my first by this author. I love strong female leads! I thought Lucy and Will had great chemistry. This book was well written with great conflict. there was good character development with some humor and lots of heart! It hit me in the small town feels. I am looking forward to finding more books by this author. Huge thanks to the author and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book!
Not going to lie i did struggle with this book, i didn't really like any of the characters and it was predictable at parts, but the story was ok.
Will works for his dads construction company, but is not really happy with his work there, so when he gets an offer from his old Navy buddy to oversee the renovations of the old ski resort he has inherited, Will jumps at the chance.
Lucy owns the local construction company in Kasper Ridge, and has been hired to do the renovations at the ski resort.
Will and Lucy have an instant connection but are slow to warm up to each other. I really enjoyed the process of them getting to know and respect each other before acting on their attraction. And I really liked that Lucy though works in a male dominated field feels comfortable enough to dress up after work hours. I am very inquisitive about the treasure hunt and can’t wait to read the next book.
I have never read anything by Delancey Stewart before but I am DEFINITELY a fan now. I could not put down Only a Fling! I enjoyed it so much I want to go back and read the prequel - Only a Summer and the follow-up to this one, Only a Crush.
What I liked (scratch that - what I LOVED) about this book: I absolutely loved that Lucy wasn’t some love sick girl who dreamt of fairy tales and Prince Charming coming to rescue her. I loved that Delancey threw out the traditional formula of boy meets girl, boy gets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back. In a male dominated world, Lucy was her own person. She was fierce, she was strong, she was a “firecracker”. She knew what she wanted and didn’t want in her life and she wasn’t settling for anything else. She was in charge and challenged anyone or anything that threatened to take that control.
I LOVED how Stewart wrote Will. Tearing down the walls of overly masculine men, he was vulnerable, he had heart, and he had no problems being an equal partner on the job (and in the bedroom). It wasn’t “only one needing the other”, she nearly reversed the gender roles, throwing out expectations, and making these two characters fit together like a perfect puzzle piece.
I love the camaraderie of the squadron and how, even in civilian life, they watched out for their own. The portrayal of how junior officers still see the COs after serving was perfection!
The steamy parts were on FIRE! I mean pull you collar away from you neck, dab your forehead kinda hot! Even the buildups had my pulse racing.
The internal struggles that Lucy and Will faced were so real, so relatable, and so well written that you could only want the best for these characters. You felt them, you cared for them, you knew them. There were times where I wanted to shake Lucy and yell “Stop filling in the blanks for him, stop shutting him out!”
What I didn’t like about the book - WHAT HAPPENED TO ARCHIE!! Stewart teases the demise of his career throughout the book, so much so that is is distracting. Well that and whatever happened with the treasure hunt? Knowing (now) that this is part of a series, I am sure the prequel answers my first question and hopefully the next book answers my second.
There are so many supporting characters that I would love to follow. Getting inside of Brainiac’s head alone would be a treat. That and I hope this becomes a movie some day because I would love to see Will’s hair! It was pretty much it’s own character and I will admit, I am intrigued!
It was a cute romance…
Although (as always) there was a LOT of things that I didn’t like.
Hated the attitude Lucy had. She was all like “I am a woman and I need to prove those people that I am the best”. At first it was nice, I liked that she cared about her job and warned the guys about other “bad constructors” but at some point it got oo much.
Their relationship was also cute… but I hated how long the book was and I felt like the author was kind of dragging it just to make more pages for it. I love long books when it’s done right with the perfect amount of ✨THEM, the sweetness, closeness and emotions. I didnt feel it here.
Also the mystery money from the Ghost’s grandpa? COOLL. Amazing even. What happened to that part? I felt like it was long forgotten when I got to the main couple arguing. I wanted to FIND out ALL about it. I know it’s dragged slowly and probably gonna be mentioned in other books to keep people guessing and entertained but I really want to know now.
Both of them are immature in some way and can’t communicate right.
So much potential lost for me…
A fun, easy read that draws the reader in from the beginning. This story is entertaining and a feel-good rom-com that everyone needs to read.
If you're into small town, slow burn romance, Only a fling by author Delaney Stewart is for you.
Will lives in LA and works for his dad's construction business. Everything he does is in the hopes of his father's approval. But it’s unattainable.
Lucy lives in a small town in Colorado. She took over her grandpa’s construction company and she's the best foreman (or forewoman) there is. She feels she always need to prove that she's the best « man » for the job.
Their paths will cross when Will’s friend offers them both a chance to prove everyone what they're made of. But can love ruin their chance at success? Or maybe fear of letting go?
On paper, that book should be amazing. The blurb, the author, the tropes… But I unfortunately never felt the spark. Both MC are well written, complex and amazing in their own way. I’m just not sure what’s missing. All this mixed up with a treasure hunt that never ends, I just don’t see the point of adding a mystery arc. I would've expected more butterflies.
I appreciated lots of things in Only a fling. I loved that the author introduced every chapter with a catch phrase. The epilogue and HEA of the characters made me reconsider my views about that book. I enjoyed it.
But the treasure hunt ? I’m not gonna read the next book to finally learn what's what. If you don't like lose ends, be aware.
Upon finishing the book, I felt it was a good entertainment. But Will and Lucy’s story won’t probably stay with me long.
