Two sisters, twins one born to rule, one to be a stand in, to take the risks, to be a shield, to sacrifice herself if necessary.

Meren knows what's expected of her and is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her sister and her world safe.

As one generation passes the throne to another the very foundation of their world is shaken when one of our princesses is taken by a Shadowraith and quite literally spirited away.

While trying to find her way back to her sister Tabra and her home Meren learns more than she thought possible, about herself, magic, shadows, the world, and all the people she thought she knew including her sister.and closest friends.

This story is breathtakingly beautiful, deep and winding, drawing you into this world of magic where every moment of storytelling is thought out and accounted for with characters that are entertwined in every way possible.

I found every moment of this audiobook to be enjoyable Samara Naeymi and Luis Moreno are brilliant at what they do, both are talented beyond measure giving voices to some of the best characters I've read in a long time.

I love this book more than I can say and am already dreaming about the next book. Until then I'll be counting down the days till I can get my hands on a physical copy to annotate.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of this Audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

WHERE TO BEGIN…
Meren was TRULY a great MC, she was loyal, brave and kind - also her wicked sense of humour added to her magnetic character
Reven was just… 🥹🥵 no words (hehe)

The plot was straight forward and drew me in, however I would argue that some aspects of the 2 power types were not explained as well as they could have been - dare I say they were inconsistent at times?

Despite this, Owen managed to create a fantastic story with *gasp* TWINS 👯‍♀️

I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys the following tropes:
-enemies to lovers (hehe)
-found family (of sorts)
-magical powers (that manifest overtime)
-curses
-kidnappings
-witty humour
-EVIL villains (like seriously… EVIL)
-TWINS

***Audiobook***

How was this so good?

First, you should know I’m usually not a big fan of audiobooks. Most of the time I’m distracted mid-chapters and the narrator makes me cringe.

Well, the narrator was anything but cringe. I believe she’s one of the best narrators I’ve listened to. If you’re hesitant about trying an audiobook for the first time, this one will certainly convince you there are good ones out there.

Now, what about the plot? At some point, I felt like I’d read too many YA for me to enjoy this genre anymore. I couldn’t be more wrong. When it’s a great YA like this one it keeps you hooked for the whole ride and what a ride it was! I loved the story, the characters, the tropes and to be honest, everything was amazing besides one exception. The names. Maren and Reven. I don’t know why but it bugged me a little. If your name is Alexandra you don’t marry Alexander. You know what I mean?

Anyway! Overall I had a great time with this book and I’m looking forward to hearing more from this narrator and reading more from this author. (4.5/5)

Also this book is not YA since there's a very spicy scene and honestly I ship them together sooooo hard. Legit a perfect slow burn romance. Also honestly don't want to ruin it for anyone since it really is an entertaining book and plot. You will love it, just as I am obsessed over it and rereading it agin not even a week after finishing.

This book is a very refreshing with the other YA/NA books out there! I absolutely LOVED the main character. She was badass from the beginning and didn't really change much to conform to the love interest which is so nice! Loved the backstory of the love interest too. Something that seems complex and hooked me in to see how they can defeat the protagonist. The world building was a little confusing, as I had to reread the descriptions a few times to really imagine the place! There's a few places that don't seem to align with the timeline but it all comes together beautifully at the end and I am excited for the next book! I also liked the sister of the main character and really hope the author does a switch of POV's for the next book. I only say this because a lot of info was dumped towards the end since we had no connection to the castle, so we had to read a lot of Information of what had happened while a lot was happening at the same time! An amazing read and really loved the premise of it!

I absolutely loved the audiobook version of this story. The narrators did a fantastic job with the characters and I'm definitely looking forward to listening to the next book in this series. The story itself was on that was full of adventure, great characters, action, suspense, enemies, secrets, threats, revenge and funny moments. There are so many layers of threats when it comes to this series that you won't know which one will present itself at any given time. It also has a slow-burn romance that will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for things to happen between the two main characters. I wanted them to get to it, but I loved the anticipation. The one thing I disliked about this story was that I felt that the main character put herself down or thought herself so worthless when it came between her and her sister. I hope that in the next book she believes in herself and see herself as equal and worthy. I don't want to give anything away, but I think that any person who enjoys a good paranormal romance will enjoy this story. I'm excited to know what happens next, especially with that cliffhanger ending.

I was given an Arc copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I read this in one sitting!

This book started off action packed and never slowed until the last page!

This book follows Meren, who is a twin to the Queen, who is no more than a body double for her. She then gets kidnapped by Reven (who is a shadow wraith) who needs to use her powers to save his people.

This is such a great enemies to lovers and I already can’t wait for the next one.
