Rick Rubin is one of the universe's best music producers. Working with amazing artists from the Beastie Boys to Run-DMC to Rage Against the Machine, he's helped shape the music industry overall. The Creative Act is a book full of bite-size thoughts about how you can think of being creative in your own life from one of the best.
A great gift book to any creative or recent grad in your life.
This was a DNF for me. I was really hoping this would be more about being creative and how to overcome creative doubts in your process, but instead, it was just something that was trying to be spiritual and meditative. I gave up on this pretty quickly.
When I started reading this, I was expecting a memoir about Rick Rubin's years as a hit producer. I was wrong. This is not that book. This book is a how-to manifesto of how to get those creative juices flowing. Regardless of your medium (art, music, film, etc), this book taps into the way to create your art and how to produce the best within you. Offering ideas, different ways of thinking and prompts to help you start, this book is a must read for anyone who creates. I'll still wait for the memoir, but in this was a pleasant read.

A fantastically readable and insightful rumination on creativity and the creative process by Rick Rubin. This book will benefit everyone who reads it, even if they are not in a creative field.
The Creative Act was an inspiring and interesting read about the importance of good creative spaces where artists can be their true selves. It inspires readers to embrace their creativity and make the world a more beautiful place while also offering some actionable tips.
