This sweet story about Sasha and her friend Mr Sloth was perfect for my impatient toddler! As Sasha tires of waiting and waiting on Mr. Sloth, she decides to do their planned activity without him and eventually realizes how important waiting can be. I look forward to more books about Sasha and Mr. Sloth!
Mr. Sloth is baaaack. And this time, Sasha has a fun day of swimming planned, but waiting on Mr. Sloth to get ready is ruining her whole day. I loved the illustrations and the additional little details of the books Sasha is reading in her room. The lesson of being patient is a difficult one, and Mr. Sloth is very helpful in understanding the frustration of doing so while adding a little bit of humor to a challenging topic.
Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.
If your child or students enjoyed the first book, they will surely enjoy this sequel. The illustrations are still my favorite part of this series, from the color palette shown to the way they add depth and detail to the story. The text was not quite as good for me as the first one, but it’s still an excellent chance to talk about waiting, dealing with frustration, and tolerating changes in plans. I do hope to add this to our library.
As a librarian I think of which books to provide for parents asking for certain topics and I know that this book is going to be a book to recommend for those who want a cosy story about patience, waiting, and friendship. Sometimes the needs are different in a friendship and where it is important to come up with solutions to make it work. Cohesive story where both text and pictures add to the whole.
"Waiting on Mr Sloth" is about a girl and her friend, a sloth. Sasha is very excited to do many different things that day but Mr Sloth is not moving as fast as she would like. As she goes throughout the day, Sasha gets an important lesson on patience. The book ends with tips for readers about being patient. Recommended for ages 4-8
I absolutely loved this book! There are so many details in the illustrations that I would warn readers to pay attention to them. The sloth takes forever and Sasha gets mad. I think it is relatable for youngsters who need to wait and get mad. There are strategies for how to get calm throughout the book and at the end. I bought this for my classroom!
This is an amusing and heartwarming story that follows a little girl called Sasha one hot day. Sasha and her best friend Mr. Sloth want to go swimming but he is slow and he gets distracted easily so she ends up getting impatient with him. Absolutely loved the story and the illustrations and I loved the lessons and the aspects of friendship.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Sasha has a best friend who is a sloth. Well, we already know that they are lazy, or rather, they are very slow. Sasha wants to do a lot of things, and only after being alone does she realize how much Mr. Sloth makes you.
It is a fun book with good drawings for children.
Thank you to NetGalley and Capstone, Capstone Editions for the opportunity to read "Waiting On Mr. Sloth" in exchange for my honest review.
In this book we meet up once again with Mr. Sloth who we last saw in the 2021 book "Mindful Mr. Sloth". This book has the wonderful, colourful graphics that we saw in the previous book. Mr. Sloth is adorable and very appealing to young children. This story teaches children patience. Sasha is eager to go swimming but Mr. Sloth needs time to get moving. While Mr. Sloth gets ready Sasha read and knits. When they finally get to their little pool they find it full of holes. Sasha is yelling and Mr. Sloth teaches her how to calm down by watching her breathing. They come up with an alternate plan to go to the lake. Along the way they are delayed by Frank the dog needing to be walked by home and Mr. Sloth being distracted by a snail. Sasha is once again unhappy because Mr. Sloth decides that he his hungry when they get to the lake and then he needs a nap after lunch. Sasha is raging and will not wait on Mr. Sloth any longer. Watching her swimming strokes calms her and she realizes that she isn't having any fun without her friend. She apologizes to Mr. Sloth and learns that it is hard to wait. Children can use the counting and breathing techniques Mr. Sloth teaches to calm themselves.
This book comes with some great bonus ideas on things you can do while you are waiting for something or someone. An excellent book for preschoolers and kindergarten children.
First, a BIG thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read the ARC of "Waiting on Mr. Sloth"! I loved the art and the layout was extremely easy to read and flow. I enjoyed the voice of Mr. Sloth, coming right off the page as his lines came up.
This is a wonderful story that I believe most people can relate to on both sides of making plans with someone. Sasha and Mr. Sloth want the same thing, but their timelines for when that will happen are not lining up. Even best of friends are not able to meet each other right in the middle or one may need more preparation. What is most important is learning to let go of how you planned, and rather have fun in the moment. "Patience is a virtue" is a saying for a reason; and for kids of all ages, this is a great reminder or lesson.
This is an adorable book with really wonderful illustrations. I look forward to reading more by Katy Hudson.

An interesting story on patience. Sasha doesn't like to wait and Mr. Sloth doesn't hurry. They are friends and the question is can they learn patience with compromise?
The illustrations are cute, but not over the top. I think they read, there is a lesson here.
I would gift this and recommend it for a babysitters arsenal.
What a delightful book this was for my 9 year old. Sasha and Mr. Sloth are such wonderful characters and this book taught all about patience. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release for my honest review.
This book was super cute! The story and illustrations were very engaging. This is a great way to teach kids the virtue of patience. As a librarian, I always read childrens books with the question "would this be a good choice for storytime?" in the back of my head. I think this absolutely would work. Again, the story is very engaging and I can see littles thinking the sloth is cute and silly. It would be great for a lesson in patience and friendship. Overall I really enjoyed this and will be recommending my library purchase it after its release date.
What a cute book about Sasha and her friend, Mr. Sloth! This book shows anger and frustration but also explains that it helps to be patient and communicate with our friends. I also loved the illustrations and little details throughout the book including the "While You Wait" tips at the end. Thank you for the advanced copy of the Waiting for Mr. Sloth Book.
Waiting on Mr. Sloth is an amazing picture book that teaches kids how to be patient and how rewarding it can be once the wait is over. I adored this! The art is incredibly charming, Mr. Sloth and Sasha came to life on the page with such charm and humor. I especially liked that the artist added a kid in a wheelchair hanging out at the lake, it's a simple but impactful addition that is often overlooked! And the author added a helpful list of things for kids to do while they wait at the end! Everything about this book made me smile, even how slooooow Mr Sloth talked which will make it a fun read aloud book! I hope to see more of Sasha and Mr Sloth!
I like how when the sloth was talking, the speech is dragged out since sloths are slow moving creatures- cute detail! This story is ultimately about waiting, and how it is hard to wait, but in the end, it is usually worth the wait! I like how when the main character gets mad and goes swimming by herself, that even though she is doing what she wanted to do that day, it still wasn't as fun because Sloth wasnt with her.
I like at the very end how the author provides kid friendly activities to do while waiting- some of the same things the characters did throughout the book.
This was a good book to show how to make compromises between friends. I think it will be a hit, as kids love sloths. The art is great, and shows a lot of expression on their faces.
This is going to be a very fun book to read to children. Mr. Sloths' drawn-out voice is definitely something that the two-year-old that I nanny would think is hilarious. The premise is adorable and I think it's genius to write a book about patience with a sloth as the main character. The grounding exercises at the end of the book are such a wonderful resource to include in children's literature. I think this is going to be a classic on children's bookshelves for the next generation.
Waiting is so hard for kids and they have a hard time knowing how to wait patiently. In this book Sasha has such a hard time waiting on Mr. Sloth, but she learns different ways to wait patiently. This was a great book to read, especially since we will be taking a trip that will involve a lot of waiting soon. We will definitely be using the ways to wait. The illustrations in this book are gorgeous!
Thank you NetGalley and Capstone for the opportunity to read this book.
