What a fantastic lesson to teach kids at a young age!! Sasha wants to go swimming with Mr. Sloth, but Mr. Sloth moves at his own pace, which is not the same as Sasha. Sasha grows impatient and the story helps her learn to sit back and relax. I loved the colorful pictures throughout. The book is for ages 4 to 7 years of age.
My favorite part might be the list at the end of what to do while you’re waiting. Love the message and the story. Love the illustrations. This is definitely one I would want on my daughters bookshelf!
Sasha wants to go swimming with Mr Sloth but Mr Sloth has other things in mind. Sasha become impatient… and Mr Sloth, well he just sits back and relaxes. For someone whose middle name is Patience, Sasha is not patient at all. She can learn a lot from Mr Sloth….
I enjoyed this delightful story about the importance of patience.. The illustrations are gorgeous! The writing is quite lovely and the message is very clear. Patience is important!
Mr Sloth and Sash are delightful characters. I hope there are more stories from these two.
I’d love to share this story with my class.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ebook to read and review.
🦥 I reviewed he first sloth book by this author (Mindful Mr. Sloth) about 18 months ago and I loved it. I was excited to see there is a second book about Sasha and her pet sloth. Who doesn’t love sloths?
🦥 The whole premise of this wonderfully illustrated book is to SLOW DOWN and wait for others. Mr. Sloth teaches Sasha how to be patient and to understand that not everyone moves at her pace.
🦥 If you have a child who is impatient and doesn’t control their frustration well, perhaps this book (and the first one in this series) will help them to learn the importance of patience and how to control their emotions.
🦥 This story is written for reading ages 4 to 7 years and is 32 pages long. It will be available January 1, 2023.
Thank you @NetGalley @CapstonePub for an eARC of this book, which I have read and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
I loved this book .
A great book about a little girl who wants to go swimming with a slow sloth only to have her plans delayed. This is a great story to teach children patience.
This is such a great companion to its predecessor, which I also really loved! It's so sweet and endearing and really helps readers focus on emotional intelligence, which is so important. I loved that by the end, she was just happy to be there with him and she found an alternative to swimming because they could always do that the next day. I thought this was a GREAT SEL title. Definitely loved it!
I enjoyed this book about a cute, slow sloth! It's hard to be mad when you are a child, and this give some great advice and examples on how to control anger and work through it.
I really love that the main character isn't just getting mad because people are upsetting her, but just situations can be frustrating when we have no control of them. And these examples can work for those angry feelings too!
Thank you to NetGalley and Capstone for letting me read an review this book!
Thanks NetGalley for the preview!
I thought this book was adorable! The pictures were vivid and detailed. The theme of waiting and not always getting your way was wonderful and a good message for students to learn! I will certainly be purchasing this book!
Already big fan of the Mindful Mr. Sloth, so this comes as a great addition. Realistic storyline, in terms of feelings, and the way many kids express frustration and impatience, and a nice ending showing the difference in perspectives between the two friends. This book is definitely a great addition to the library collection as well as the curriculum and will definitely buy.
Aw, what a lovely book detailing the importance (and difficulty) of waiting for others. I absolutely loved the character Mr. Sloth - I could definitely relate to how laid back (and sometimes lazy) he felt in the mornings! It describes the emotions we can feel when we're angry, but also the experiences we miss out on when we're feeling this way and just want to do what we set out to do that day! It's a great book for children to see how sometimes things won't always go our way, but there are strategies we can use to cope with those feelings.
Waiting on Mr. Sloth by Katy Hudson is an adorable picture book about the friendship between a little girl and a her sloth friend. She wants to go swimming but ends up waiting around for sloth to get ready. The story teaches about patience and waiting. It lists different things to do while waiting to pass the time. The illustrations are gorgeous. This would be a perfect book for preschool to early elementary school aged children.
Thank you Capstone and NetGalley for providing this ARC.
Waiting on Mr. Sloth
by Katy Hudson
This is a delightful children's story about a little girl named Sasha and her best friend named Mr. Sloth. It's hot and Sasha is excited about going to the beach and having a swim but Mr. Sloth is so slow. She gets impatient with him. But she doesn't think about him getting impatient with her. They ended up compromising and had lots of fun. Told without judgement, this is a sweet friendship story.
The artwork is so beautiful and matches the feel of the story! Adorable and charming! Kid's will want to hear this one frequently and parents won't mind reading it at all!
I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this story!
I love the message of this book so much. Sasha wants to go swimming and but her pet sloth is very slow and her patience wears thin by the time they get to the lake to go swimming. But she learns some ways to deal with her emotions, but breathing in and out. I love that lesson because it’s so frequent that young children who can’t quite express all their emotions end up throwing a tantrum. But giving a way for them to handle their emotions like deep breathing is really great. The illustrations are beautiful and the sloth is super cute. My kids love sloths so they also love this book.
Thanks to Netgalley and Capstone for a free digital copy.
A very adorable book about waiting and considering the feelings of others. I think Mr. Sloth is a delight.
Thanks to Netgalley, and the publisher for the eArc I received which in no way bias' my opinion.
I decided to read this to my daughter while we were waiting in the doctors office, and I'm glad I did!
She loved the bright illustrations of the animals, especially the lazy sloth, and I enjoyed the opportunity to teach her about patience.
Mr Sloth is in no hurry, and with that gives a great opportunity to teach your toddler about having a good attitude while waiting.
I really enjoyed this book, and it was long enough to be entertaining, and short enough to maintain her attention span. I highly recommend for waiting rooms!
I don’t often review children’s books anymore, but I can’t turn down anything sloth related. I was in for such a treat with Waiting on Mr. Sloth and am sure the little in your life will love (and relate) to this story.
All Sasha wants to do is go swimming with Mr. Sloth. But, being a sloth, he’s so slow and is keeping her from enjoying the only thing she wants to do. It’s not just Mr. Sloth that keeps Sasha from her swim — the two encounter obstacles that exist solely to derail and otherwise fun day in the water.
I love this book’s choice of a sloth as Sasha’s foil. He’s nothing if not true to his nature — he’s not rushing anything. Sasha’s frustration, however, leads to a great teachable moment about patience, mindfulness, and just going with the flow. It’s perfectly worded for young readers and is presented in a way that makes the lesson easily digested and understood. As a treat, the book also provides a list of easy and accessible tips for managing feelings of impatience and frustration.
The story itself is great, but the illustrations shine. The imagery is vibrant eye-catching, with great detail to scene-setting. I enjoyed the background of the illustrations almost as much as the main action. I also appreciated Hudson’s inclusion in this book. Although not a main part of the story, she features a child fishing on a pier while using a wheelchair, and has Sasha wearing a sleep bonnet. These are details that might not mean a lot to some, but will go a long way in helping a child see themselves reflected in this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed Waiting on Mr. Sloth, and already plan to buy a copy when it’s released in a few months. It has a perfect balance of a story that’s short and sweet, but not rushed. It’ll be a great read for a read-along or for an emerging reader to try on their own. Either way, they’ll be in for a great read.
As adorable as the first book of this series! Fun plus learning in a single amazing package.
Sasha Patience Pruitt, the girl whose middle name simple doesn’t apply to her, is back with her bestie Mr. Sloth. This time, Sasha has woken up with the sudden whim of going swimming. She rusheds to get things ready and dreams of having a great time with Mr. Sloth. Unfortunately, Mr. Sloth is as slow as ever, taking ages to get things going. Sasha gets more and more impatient as obstacles keep coming their way. Finally, she can’t wait any more and goes swimming on her own. But is swimming fun without your best friend to splash next to you?
Book one of this series, ‘Mindful Mr. Sloth’, focussed on mindfulness and on balancing living in the moment as well as rushing to complete tasks. This time around, the idea is to show how to stay calm when things aren’t going your way. Some things are worth waiting for, but what do you do when you don't have the patience to wait? Hyperventilating doesn’t help, losing your temper doesn’t help, insisting on doing things your way doesn’t help. You need tremendous patience and planning to go through the tough time successfully. And who better to show you this than the adorable duo in this story?
Sasha is as cute as she was in the first book. With her curly hair and expressive face, she is a charmer all the way, even when she is fretting and fuming. Mr. Sloth is amazing this time around as he has lot more to do, though he still does it at his own pace. He is the best companion to ground Sasha and calm her.
This story would work so wonderfully to read aloud! There are plenty of options to narrate with sound effects, especially when it comes to wording slow Mr. Sloth.
The language is very easy for early readers. Simple words in a clear font and not overcrowded on a page. The illustrations are perfect for the story. You’ll find not just the characters but also the detailing attractive and inclusive.
All in all, strongly recommended to every little angel who wants to rush their way to a new idea without planning it in advance and without having patience with those who lag. This book will teach them, “Good things come to those who wait.” The suggested target reader group is levels PreK-3. This story will be a good addition to schools and libraries too.
4.5 stars.
My thanks to Capstone Editions and NetGalley for the DRC of “Waiting on Mr. Sloth”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
Thank you, NetGalley, for an e-ARC of Waiting on Mr. Sloth by Katy Hudson.
Waiting on Mr. Sloth is a story about patience and compromise written for young children. The illustrations and use of a sloth help reinforce the concepts in a gentle, fun way. A great story to help children understand that friendship takes two.
I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is a fun story to help kids understand patience!
I’m a sucker for a cute little sloth, so I was pumped about this one from the get go. This one tells the story of a precious little girl and her bestfriend, a sloth. She always makes tons of exciting fun plans for them, such as swimming, playing, etc… However, Mr. Sloth has one fatal flaw: it takes him forever to get moving (adults and parents, I think we can all relate). The little girl begins to get extremely frustrated with her slow companion, who is ruining her plans and fun. In the end, she apologizes to her friend for getting so frustrated and angry, and Mr. Sloth lets her know that he feels the same way sometimes. But instead of taking his anger out on her, he counts the clouds and the dragonflies and lets his frustrations slip away. Intrigued, the little girl decides to do what Mr. Sloth wants, and begins to count the clouds, the rubber duckies in the bathtub, and more. And – just like Mr. Sloth said – it made time pass quickly. Happy and pleased that his friend did what he wanted, even if it wasn’t what she preferred, the next morning Mr. Sloth is up and ready to go swimming – and they do just that. This one is the perfect story to demonstrate that we don’t win when we take anger or frustration out on our friends, and, even more than that, sometimes we have to do things that aren’t our first choice, when our friends really want to. A story of friendship and compromise with darling illustrations, this one was pitch perfect.
