Schuster's first book, "Buy Yourself the F*ing Lilies" was the first "self-help" book I was ever able to finish. Somehow, she manages to address the saddest, most difficult parts of life with just the right amount of witty sarcasm and self-effacing humor. In "Glow," she touches on her crappy childhood, the isolation of the pandemic, the insanity of dating in today's world, and the constant worry that we're not living up to our potential. She shares her crazy dating adventures, her experience as a high-ranking exec at Comedy Central and her ever-evolving journey in re-parenting the little girl who never felt safe or loved by her family of origin. I was lucky enough to read an advanced copy of the book and I'm so happy to recommend it to others!

Tara Schuster’s first book, Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies was like receiving the best life advice from your best friend. She helps you uncover your trauma and find practices to improve your life with humor and kindness.

I had high expectations for Glow in the F*cking Dark, and it exceeded them. I love how it’s divided into sections- Heal, Grow, and Glow. Continuing to heal the hurt parts of yourself, finding ways to become a better version of yourself while loving where you’re at, and reconnecting to your essential self to find your “glow”. With practical tips on how to uncover what’s beneath your anxiety, how to make a plan for depression, and how to cope with uncomfortable feelings around money, all with Tara’s personal stories that make you feel less alone, Glow is a guide to healing and thriving. This is a book that I will be referring to for years to come.

Good read. I’ve been trying to add more personal growth books into my repertoire, but find I get bored easily. This kept my attention and I look forward to recommending to my customers!

Absolutely love this book, especially as a continued conversation from Tara Schuster's first book! So many great discussions about handling your feelings, money, and body love - discussions you want to have with yourself!

I was very lucky to receive an advanced copy of this book and I cannot say enough good things about it. I absolutely loved Tara’s first book and this book takes you further into a journey of healing and self-discovery. Tara writes in such a relatable way and I really admire her openness and vulnerability so we can all see that we are not alone in the things we struggle with. She writes from being in the trenches and is figuring out life with the rest of us and not someone who pretends to have it all figured out.

There was not a chapter that I didn’t highlight multiple parts. In several chapters, there are questions and topics to journal on (figuring out your true desires, your future self, etc) as well as actionable steps to take to handle various struggles such as getting yourself out of severe depression. There are chapters on building habits, loneliness, imposter syndrome, anxiety, meditation, career, etc. I think my favorite chapter though is the one on depression, titled “The Hot Rabbi: Deal with Depression before it Deals with You”. It is so raw and has so many amazing messages and things to think about for anyone who struggles with depression. It ends with a letter from Tara to anyone contemplating suicide. And though the letter is addressed to people who are suicidal I think anyone who struggles with negative beliefs could benefit from reading this letter.

This book is about not settling in your life and doing the work daily to create the life of your dreams. She writes, “What are your days like? Are they aligned with who you are and what you want most in the world? Are they built to be good for you?”. She also writes, But the thing I’ve learned is that leading a glittering, liberated, bountiful life is a choice you have to make for yourself, daily. It’s not something you just stumble upon, when you’re older, or when you finally have the time, unfortch.” She reminds us all that if we want things to change, we must be the ones to make changes in our lives, and we have control. There are so many great passages in this book and it is hard to just choose a few. I can’t wait to get my hard copy of the book and re-read it, and do all of the journaling exercises. Thank you Tara for sharing your heart and soul with us. Glow on. #glowgetter

Tara Schuster has done it again! Glow in the F*cking Dark resonated with me on so many levels. From the discussion on being moneysick, to body gratitude and looking at loneliness as a superpower! She is so relatable and this book made me realize that the life I’ve always wanted and the person I’ve wanted to be, are already here and it’s up to me to be that person and live that life. She offers advice on how to be that person and live that life. She truly has taught me how to “glow!”

In a book that's part autobiography, part self-help, Tara Schuster outlines the ways for us to heal, grow, and glow. With real-life examples that will have you feeling everything from laughing out loud to cringing from the second-hand embarrassment, Tara lays out a plan for us to learn how to glow in our own lives. Whether you're interested in the self-help or in the autobiography, Glow in the F*cking Dark will make you want to keep reading to know what Tara has to say next.

Thank you so much Random House and Tara Schuster for the chance to read this early in exchange for an honest review.
As a fan of the author’s first book, “Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies,” I was thrilled to read this book and it didn’t disappoint. Her writing still is easy to engage with as she is able to inject humor kn topics that can be heavy. She’s very relatable and not afraid to be vulnerable.

I like how each chapter ends with a little paragraph titled “A Little Thing that Helps.” It’s like an actionable item that you can try if all of the ideas in the chapter are overwhelming at first. I will definitely be purchasing a copy of this book to add to my collection. Thank you, Tara.

This book is life changing, just like the first one was! Tara is like a big sister offering the best life advice - it feels so good to be deeply seen and hear what I know must be very hard earned wisdom. How generous of the author to share with us, and how lucky we are to benefit from her knowledge!

TARA HAS DONE IT AGAIN!
we loved her first novel, and for anyone in that part of life where you feel lost and possibly without a purpose it was for you. Now this one, is also for that same person. The one who needs to realize they’re effing awesome, and how to bring out our inner light!
Tara writes with such a comedic tone, which comes from all her years working for Comedy Central. And it just makes these hard topics less intimidating!

I could rave about this book for days, but everyone should read it!

Thank you to the publisher and Tara for the ARC!

Special thanks to NetGalley, Tara Schuster and the Glow Getters community for allowing me to be a part of the advance copy read of her new, unreleased book “Glow in the F*cking Dark” and to help promote the book! I gotta say, Tara is one of the most vulnerable authors I’ve ever read. Her essays teach you through relating her personal experiences about all the common things people are too scared to talk about - money woes, childbearing concerns, parent/child relationships, work environment and the self worth tied to it, loving your authentic self, etc. She also has a pretty heavy, very candid chapter on the suicidal thoughts she had which sparked her healing journey. On top of all that, she delivers her message while wrapping you up in a warm hug. I never felt “alone” reading this book. In fact, I constantly found myself saying, “This is me!”, “me too!”, and “I feel so seen and understood.” If you read the Moneysickness chapter, that is 1000% me. I had the opportunity to meet with Tara and other Glow Getters weekly for a bookclub/community group and I can confirm that Tara is the real deal. Release date: February 28, 2023. 4 stars!

I don’t pre-order a lot of books, and there are very few authors that I would jump up and down squealing over a new book from them. But Tara Schuster is one of those authors, and you best believe that I pre-ordered this book as soon as I could. I’ve been a fan of Schuster’s for years, ever since I read Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies in 2021, which I can genuinely say changed my life for the better and started me on a healing journey that continues to this day. Glow in the F*cking Dark is a follow-up to Lilies, as those in the Tara Schuster fan club refer to her first book, in which Schuster reflects on the healing practices that helped her begin to thrive after losing her job as an executive at Comedy Central in 2020 and finding herself in a dark place with the same humor and enthusiasm I’ve come to expect from my parasocial bestie.

I have the feeling that I will be revisiting and rereading this book for years to come, much like I have with Lilies, whenever I need a boost of inspiration or a good solid kick in the pants to remember that I am worth prioritizing and taking care of, even when there are a million things and people that also feel like they need my care and energy. There are some real gems of insight in this book, and once I get my hard copy, I’m sure it will be dogeared and annotated beyond belief. As a note, while I am usually very format agnostic, having read this as a digital ARC, I would highly suggest getting this book in hard copy. Schuster loves her footnotes, and it is really distracting to try to read in digital format. That said, Glow has inspired me, as well as hit me with so many big realizations that my therapist is now deeply familiar with this book over the last few weeks of my reading it.

Side note: it now has my therapist’s provisional seal of approval, for what it’s worth.

That said, the biggest difference between Glow and Lilies is just that: it’s probably a bit more helpful if you are also engaging in other supported healing practices like seeing a therapist. Liles was filled with actionable steps you could take to start reparenting yourself; I don’t think a single reader with whom that book resonated with doesn’t have a journaling practice, and probably a gratitude practice now. Glow, on the other hand, is more abstract and motivational. It leads you down paths of self examination, but aside from a few exercises and meditations, it isn’t as easy to make the ideas in this book stick. It will take a lot more time and processing for this book to truly sink in, I think. I don’t mind that, as I do have a support system to help me process, but it isn’t a quick fix self-help book by any means.

I would absolutely suggest this book if you are on a healing journey or just looking for some non-woo inspiration for thriving, even in a world that feels like it grows darker by the day. Make sure you have a journal, some tissues, and at least one good friend on standby.

Disclaimer: I never read Buy the Lilies but after devouring Glow in the Dark, it has climbed the ranks of my TBR list.
Tara combines real talk, humor, and tough love to expose some of the dark and gritty parts of healing and ways to grow through them. She never paints an unattainable quest for perfection but gives hope and optimism that we all struggle and can make our way through the sh*t life throws at us.
I highlighted countless passages and really enjoyed her cheeky footnotes at the end of each chapter.
Totally recommend to anyone that needs a reminder they are not alone and that even when we do all the things, healing is a forever journey.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for gifting me a copy of this book. It is one that will stick with me for a long time.

Glow in the F*cking Dark by Tara Schuster ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
.
I had the opportunity (honor) to be selected as one of Tara's #glowgetters and receive an advanced readers copy of Glow in the F*cking Dark ✨ Getting to hang out with Tara in a private online community, and live on Zoom, this month has been such a fun experience! Big thanks to the artist formerly known as T$, and her team!!
.
I was first introduced to Tara Schuster a couple years ago now when we read Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies in book club. We all loved it, and fangirled so hard when Tara interacted with our posts on IG!
.
The thing I loved most about both Glow and Lilies is Tara's fast paced, conversational, writing style. Reading her books feels like sharing secrets and confiding in your best friend! You'll laugh and cry, while feeling seen and heard.
.
Tara takes on some tough topics in this book. Depression and suicidal ideation, to name a couple. While I have my own core distressing beliefs to overcome, and inner work to do, I don't personally relate to some of what she shares. But despite that, I am so grateful that she so courageously shares her story! Working on knowing and improving ourselves is so important, but it's also important to learn about other people's experiences. It gives you perspective that you might not get anywhere else! Reading this book has made me feel better equipped to be a more understanding and compassionate person 💖
.
Glow in the F*cking Dark is available 2/28/2023, but you can pre-order your copy NOW! I know I can't wait to get my physical copy!

Tara Schuster's writing style flow very well and I like here use of typography to underscore her points. This would Las be a great audiobook because of its engaging=, conversational style. What works quite well it that after each snippet that is a recap that brings you back the center, why am I reading this, what can I get out of it, how can I apply it to my situation? Funny and thoughtful, it makes me want to go back and read her first book.

Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to receive an ARC of this book. Tara invites you into this book and guides you on a journey of self love while encouraging growth every step of the way. I felt like she was speaking directly to me. I didn't think anything could compare to her first novel "Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies" but she's absolutely done it again! She helps you figure out your own sh*t through her stories about her own life which makes the book that much better!!! I'm a #1 fan and wish I could give more than 5 stars for this masterpiece! In addition, I pre-ordered the hardcover and can't wait to listen to her audible on Feb. 28th!!!!!! Thank you Tara!!!!!!

Glow in the F*cking Dark is the long-awaited second book of Tara Schuster's life advice series following Buy Yourself the F*cking Lillies. While Lillies resonated with me in several ways (body image issues, the need to practice gratitude, and how to take steps to care for yourself), Glow focused on the more complicated steps needed to continue on as a person.
Unfortunately, this book felt much more preachy and disingenuous despite Tara writing an entire chapter on how this kind of care often seems fake. Some stories lacked relatability and I didn't feel the same push to start a journaling practice or other self-care option as I did with Lillies.

Overall, the book has great nuggets of information and I can see why it will do well for many people looking for help, but I just don't know if I'm that person.

I love this book! Tara Schuster has an excellent conversational tone that really cuts to the heart of the matter. I learned quite a bit about her philosophy and how to increase self-confidence.
