Interesting but uneven memoir in fragments. Stream of consciousness with all of the good (interesting connections and juxtapositions and jarringly good connections) and bad (inane memories) that entails.
This was almost as good as the original Autoportrait it was inspired from. After reading various books by Jessie Ball, I became curious about what kind of person he is or what kind of thoughts go through his head and with this book I got a good glimpse at that. This is was delightful read.
Autoportrait by Jesse Ball is a great memoir! This book is inspired by Autoportrait by Édouard Levé and I really enjoyed the writing style. I listened to the audiobook narrated by James Patrick Cronin and he did an excellent job! This is my first book by this author and I learned a lot about him. This book is honest as he shares his likes, dislikes, bits of his everyday life and moments from his childhood. It was especially interesting to learn about his writing practices. I’m curious to read some of this author’s poetry now!

A deep (and shallow!) and wide-ranging excavation of a complex and contrarian mind. Certainly enjoyable if you enjoy the absurdism of his literature. Consistently fascinating; this style of memoir would not work for everyone, but Mr. Ball has enough strongly felt opinions that it never drags.
