This story lacked a good plot. At times was boring and the characters were not very relatable. Some chapters were drawn out making this story hard to finish. I ended up not finishing the book

A fun story that I just had to read. I love any book with dog's as a big dog lover but it was also a fun and suspenseful mystery.

Mountain Town Mischief With a Poodle is the first romance/caper light mystery in a series by Virginia Fox. Originally released as Rocky Mountain Yoga in 2014, this reformat and re-release excerpt(?) from fourth quarter 2022 is 137 pages and is available in ebook format. Availability is unclear from the publishing info provided for review, but it appears to be available from the author's website, and the series is available on major retail platforms.

This is a romance mystery caper mashup which attempts to do all genres and doesn't manage to do any of them very clearly or well. From the opening scene (yoga instructor Jasmine forgets her keys and walks in on her criminal live-in boyfriend getting harassed by his criminal colleagues), it's a slow-motion run-for-your-life adventure when she tries to hide out at her grandmother's place in Colorado.

The action driven plot never gels very well and she bounces from crisis and drama to more crisis and drama. The characters are written sympathetically, but it's difficult to get through the over the top dialogue and neverending romantic drama. There's not much suspense and none of the threats had any immediacy or sustained believability.

It's unclear from the material provided for review (there is no publisher/registration info included), but it seems possible that the book(s) are translated from German. It could be the dialogue and writing flow much better in that language. As presented, this novelette/excerpt is rough and uneven and could have benefited from a more thorough editing process. This seems to be a sample from the first book of an established series. Most of the series (though not the first book) are currently available in the Kindle Unlimited library to borrow and read for free.

Three stars. Potentially worth a look for very light romantic drama readers. Recommended to download and try the sample before committing.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I think this series was published in German and is now being released in English I couldn't find this title on Goodreads but there were numerous Rocky Mountain books listed. A little romance, a dab of suspense, and a whole lot of fun await you in the first book of the genre-skipping Rocky Mountain Cozies series.

What’s a big-city girl to do when she finds out her boyfriend is dealing shady business out of the apartment they share in Seattle? She grabs her big standard poodle named Rambo and runs to granny in small-town Colorado, that’s what! I liked the characters and hope more of the series will be released in English.

Loved this book, loved the dog, loved the story. The mystery was uncovered early on but that didn't take away from how much I enjoyed the book. Loved it!

This is a good book. The main character is Jasmine. Jasmine moves to Colorado to escape a boyfriend who is doing illegal things. She goes there to be near her Grandmother. The sheriff is worried about why she moved here. There is an instant attraction between the two. There are issues they have but between the two they work them out and fall in love.

As a cozy mystery this is a fail. There is no mystery. We know right from the start who the bad guy is and why. If you're reading it because of the poodle forget it for that too. The dog, Rambo, has almost no role.

This is primarily a romance, but the author is too busy setting up potential couples for future books instead of focusing enough on the couple in this book and developing a meaningful relationship between them.

If you're looking for a fish out of water story "yoga hippy dippy type meets backward yokels" this isn't it either. These small town folks take to yoga and Jaz with no issues.

My copy had many lines missing words so actions jumped at times.

Couldn't find the book listed (at least in English) on Goodreads or on Amazon, so I didn't leave my review.

This was a fun 1st book in the series. I liked the characters and the setting. The mystery kept me guessing.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review,.

Mountain Town Mischief with a Poodle by Virginia Fox is the debut of Rocky Mountain Cozies. Jasmine is a yoga instructor who lives in Seattle. She forgets the key to the yoga studio where she works and rushes back home to retrieve it. She overhears her lazy boyfriend, Gavin talking to two men about a counterfeiting scheme. The lout plans on making off with some of Jasmine’s savings account as well. Jasmine gets caught eavesdropping and she takes off. She does not go to the police because Jasmine spots Gavin talking to an officer (she fears corruption in the ranks of the Seattle PD). Jasmine picks up dog, Rambo (an adorable black Standard Poodle) and drives to her grandmother’s cabin in Colorado. She ends up on the wrong end of the neighbor’s shotgun who believes she is a burglar. Jasmine gets to meet the hunky sheriff (cue romance). When Jasmine calls Gavin (I never said she was the sharpest knife in the drawer), she buys his phony baloney story and tells him where she is hiding out (cue trouble). The sheriff (who is equally as smitten as Jasmine) works to protect Jasmine from the bad guys (you know where this is going). I do not feel this story is a cozy mystery. It is a romance with a smidgen of suspense. There is no mystery to solve. Jasmine is hard to like. She is a yoga instructor, a vegetarian (we are told this many times), and firm believer in no gas guzzling vehicles. Jasmine comes from a well-off family, and it is obvious (her pretentious attitude). Jasmine has a tendency of making bad decisions. The characters lacked development. They were one-dimensional. I found it hard to get through the story because the point-of-view jumps around. It was hard to keep track (it would just change without warning). There are inconsistencies in the story. Jasmine tells Gavin where she is and the later wonders how he knew where to find her because she did not tell him (I distinctly remember the phone call where she overshared). My favorite character was Rambo. There was too much romance. Jasmine has just left her lout of boyfriend and she is falling for the sheriff the next day. Jasmine’s grandmother, Nana wants Jasmine to open a yoga retreat at the large family log cabin. Instead, Jasmine rents a space in town for her classes. She could have done that at the cabin and saved herself the rent. There is mild foul language (just a couple of words maximum). Mountain Town Mischief with a Poodle felt more like a telenovela than a cozy mystery.

Yoga loving Jasmine finds out that her live-in boyfriend Gavin is only with her for her inheritance money to finance his illegal business. Afraid for her life, she runs to Independence, Colorado where her Nana lives. She moves into her grandmothers empty house and the fun ensues.

I originally thought this was a cozy mystery and it does read like one but I soon figured out it wasn't. I despise romance novels but this was a fun light and easy read. Perfect for a curled up on the couch dayI I love the characters. And especially love how Jaz met Paula. For me though, Rambo is my favorite.

I'll read the next in the series.

This book was a fun read, the characters were enjoyable. But the story itself was meh, the mystery was too open and shut and besides getting the main character to the town wasn't a significant part of the story. The romance part was very instant and love at first sight kind of romance which left me wondering where the conflict in the book was. There was no real dragging out of anything, you found out what happened, and it's solved shortly thereafter with little to no fanfare.

The cozies in the series made me think it would be a cozy mystery but I didn't feel like this fit that title at all.

Mountain Town Mischief With a Poodle (Rocky Mountain Cozies Book 1) is the first in a new series. I was excited to see that a poodle was in the story. But that for me was the best part. The story itself was flat and I really did not like the characters in the book.
I really wanted to feel something to connect me to what was happening.
There was too much happening and that had the cozy all over the place with nothing to hold my attention.
Thank you NetGalley and Virginia Fox for the copy of Mountain Town Mischief With a Poodle. This is my personal review.

I would first like to thank both NetGalley and Dragon Books for allowing me to read and review this book.

I gave this book 4 stars. At first, I thought this was a cozy mystery series until I just looked at the Subtitle better. This is an enjoyable book to read and the getting to know the characters was great fun. I know that there will be more to come with series since we have to go through all the Carter family children. In this book we are talking about Jake and Jaz.

Jaz is into Yoga and teaches yoga for a living. Jake is the Sheriff of the small town in Colorado.

Jaz is from Seattle and comes to the small Colorado town to get away from her boyfriend who isn’t what she thought he was. Her Grandma lives in this small town, and she decides to visit her until she figures out what she is going to do. She also has a poodle called Rambo. When she arrives at her grandma’s the next-door neighbor doesn’t realize Jaz is related to her neighbor and meets her with a shot gun. Jaz has had enough and gets very snippy which makes the neighbor call her brother, the sheriff. The sheriff does know that Jaz will be arriving and is able to get the situation under control.

She grows to love this little town and as she decides to set up a little yoga studio. She is getting to know the sheriff better and her newfound friends. Her shot gun carrying neighbor is one of them. There are a couple of incidents that happen to Jaz, but they don’t slow her down and is made stronger because of them.

I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and come back to this little Colorado town.

This one was kind of fun, but wasn't for me. It was listed as a cozy mystery, but it was more cozy romance with a dash of suspense. The characters weren't really likeable and the relationships between them moved way too quickly. It was also frustrating that this version isn't on Goodreads, I found the author and the German version (I'm pretty sure), but this exact one isn't.

When Jasmine unexpectedly returns home, she walks in on her boyfriend, Gavin, held at gunpoint. Then things go downhill from there. She flees when the guns are pointed at her, but she had heard enough to realize that Gavin is involved in something illegal and has plans for her money. With nowhere else to turn, she heads to Colorado and her grandmother. Once again, she is held at gunpoint by her grandmother’s neighbor who thinks she is a burglar. The neighbor calls the sheriff, who just happens to be her brother Jake Carter. Jasmine decides to stay in Colorado and open a yoga studio…and spend time with the attractive sheriff. Other characters are introduced as Jasmine’s friends invade the town and Jake’s relatives decide that Jasmine might be the one for the lonely sheriff. Gavin has not given up on getting money from Jasmine and adds that touch of suspense to this amusing romance. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. I love cozy mysteries, especially if they are set near where I live. Since I moved to CO this past summer, I jumped right at the chance to read a cozy set here. But, while the book is entertaining, it is a bit too much like a romance novel for me. Just not my type of cozy.

The story is cute and I did finish reading, but too much romance and not enough mystery for my taste. The relationship between the main character, Jasmine, and her new boyfriend just moved too fast. Her new friendships formed after moving from Seattle to small-town CO were also insta-relationships. The plot felt like it glossed over any character building straight to MC-is-set-up-and-in-her-new-life. I felt the romance is more the focus of the plot than mystery/suspense.

Readers who really love romance mixed with a bit of mystery will enjoy this series.

I'm glad I tried Virginia Fox's writing. She is popular for a reason. But, this series is just not for me. Not every book or series is for every reader. And this one was just not for me. Doesn't mean it's a bad book....the story is just meant for others.

I enjoyed this book, the start of a new cozy series, even if the mystery takes often the backseat and there more romance than mystery
Lovely setting and likeable characters.
I think it can be a good series but the author must decide if it's a romantic or a cozy mystery series.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

This is the first book in the Rocky Mountain Cozies series. Jasmine takes a fast exit to Colorado when she is threatened by her boyfriend's associates. She is warming up to leaving Seattle for good and settling in Colorado but her now ex-boyfriend has some other plans.

The story has a lot of romance and a few suspenseful moments. It seemed as if Jasmine's relationships with both new friends and boyfriend went from 0 - 100 too quickly. However, I enjoyed the characters and would like to see more development in future stories. I would like to thank Dragonbooks publishing and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed her are my own.

This was the first book in the series and it was fantastic! I am looking forward to more adventures with Jasmine. It had it all mystery, romance and a poodle. Jasmine leaves Seattle running from her boyfriend that is mixed up in shady business. Her and her dog Rambo go to Colorado to stay with her granny. Little does she know that it is a blessing in disguise. This is a must for cozy lovers.
