I didn't realize until I went to write my review that this book is number four in a series. Not sure if the story is a continuation or stand alone but I didn't feel like I was missing anything by only reading one.I really enjoyed the story and the characters and I like the flow of the authors writing. If your looking for a light fun read then I suggest you pick up a copy of The Good Luck Cafe.
Moira loves her job at a 911 operator and growing up in a small town. She has found memories of her mothers bakery and meeting her friends there for breakfast, no one can resist Sweeties coffee and pastries. When Moira finds out the mayor will be demolishing the bakery and putting in a parking lot she decides it's time for a fight. Moira and Major Gil have a past and still have some sort of feelings for each other but for Moira anything she might have felt is gone when she finds out what Gil is proposing. Moira decides the only way to stop the destruction of Sweeties is to run for major and come up with a new solution for the towns parking issues. Against her better judgement Moira will make some big decisions and some will be made for her. Maybe it's time to grow up and let the past go, even Sweeties. The bakery on Good Luck street might be leaving but it will bring good things to Moira one last time.

A lovely story about two people with a life long connection who find their way to each other. Gil and Moira are great characters and their fellow townies make for a great cast. I enjoyed the plot and this latest novel from Rains.
When the town plans to take Moira's mother cafe because they desperately need a parking lot, she blames Gil. She has been avoiding Gil for years, and we find out the reason why. The parking lot is very much needed, but so is the cafe. It takes a problem like this for people to realize what it really is they are fighting for. It really isn't what it started out to be, but the chance for them all to figure out what they really wanted to do now. Losing something that has been comfort and a part of who they are to make room for something new, also makes themselves think about making room for new things in their lives.
I received an ARC from Forever through NetGalley.
I have been hoping there would be a Moira and Gil story for a long time, and it did not disappoint. Gil is the lovable town mayor who has been in love with Moira for years, but Moira has always done her best to avoid him. Moira is a 911 dispatcher, and daughter of the owner of the town favorite Sweetie’s coffee shop and bakery. Though Moira has avoided Gil for years, when Gil is responsible for voting to close something dear to Moira’s heart she is forced to confront him. As the two begin talking we find out why Moira has avoided Gil for years. As the two butt heads on the town issue and begin spending more time together Moira starts to realize what was in front of her all this time. This was a really sweet story with a very satisfying ending. I can’t wait to see who Reva tries to match up next! I received an ARC, and this is my honest review.
Moira is a911 dispatcher who decides to run for mayor to save her mother's cafe. Love any book by anne Raines. good story.
Annie Rains takes you in from the first page to the last. I love this book! The characters mesh so well together. This book has it all. Romance, trials, growing of characters, friendships, wonderful characters, great storyline. Very heartwarming read. I was given an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley and I am freely leaving my review.
I always know that anything I read by Annie Rains is going to be a wholesome and heartwarming tale, and this did not disappoint. “The Good Luck Café” is a story that takes place in the small town of Somerset Lake, a town filled with good neighbors who care about each other. Moira Green works as 911 dispatcher and truly feels good about helping others. She is also a creature of habit, resistant to change. She finds out that her mother’s small-town coffee shop is soon to be demolished to make way for a parking lot and approved by the town’s mayor, Gil who is the nemesis of Moira. Moira has a secret in her past and Gil is part of that secret. While they used to be very good friends, something happened to change that and only Moira has that answer. Moira decides to run against Gil for mayor in order to save her mother’s café which begins the classic trope of enemies become lovers. Rains’ writing is detailed as it transports you back into Somerset Lake and into the lives of characters previously met in her other books. She makes you care about these well-developed characters and celebrate with them when they fall in love. This would make a great Hallmark movie or made for TV series. This is a story of second chances, letting go of the past and finding new beginnings. As always, it was an enjoyable read.
Many thanks to #netgalley #annierains #thegoodluckcafe for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Moira is content with her job as a 911 dispatcher, but when she learns that her mother’s business, Sweetie’s, is going to be demolished and replaced with a parking lot, she vows to do whatever it takes to save it. This pits her against the current mayor, Gil Ryan, who was once a dear childhood friend. After an incident that happened while Moira was in college, things haven’t been the same. Moira never told Gil the whole story, so he’s sort of in the dark about why their friendship seems to have been lost.
A heartwarming story about letting go of the past, rebuilding friendships, new beginnings, finding true love, and more.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Moira is living a good life and has kept her past a secret. Mayor GIl w as her best friend. Now they must face the past and start a new life. In trying to save her mothers cafe she learns that she can fight for what she believes in and find a much happier life.
THE GOOD LUCK CAFÉ is still another amazing tale set it a lovely close-knit community created by Annie Rains. Small towns are just ripe for good romantic stories and Annie Rains set the stage for some wondrous moments. THE GOOD LUCK CAFÉ is chock full of heartwarming moments, inspiring characters and for good measure, just the right amount of angst. This is the story of the impending demise of a local coffee shop in the search for a parking lot. Sound very mundane. But remember this is Annie Rains and this story deserves many accolades for touching on topics that are current and relevant.
Moira Green is part of a team that mans the dispatching duties for her small town. Often a rather sedate task but at times makes her realize what an important job it is. Her job simply put is to get hold of the correct department to answer the reason for the 911 call. Moira works from home which could be a very isolating experience, except Moira has an amazing group of lifelong friends. Friends who meet weekly for a book club, have lunches and coffee together when possible. In short, a close circle that meet each other’s needs for a boost when necessary.
Moira also has a man who has been a part of her life for what seems like forever. Gil Ryan is now mayor of this town. Moira’s mother owns and operates the coffee shop that is being eyed as the possible site for a much-needed parking lot. It seems that driving through the town has become rather dangerous, especially when emergency vehicles need access to problems. This is of course sets the stage for a confrontational relationship between Moira and Gil. Silly you might say. But there is an element of sentimentality in these small communities, and they make it difficult to face changes.
But change is definitely in the air. For Moira, Gil, and many other folks. And in THE GOOD LUCK CAFÉ Annie Rains tackles those changes along with her endearing collection of characters. We learn quite a lot about these people through their dialog and actions, another talent of this author.
So we are treated to bits and pieces about events that happened many years ago. For Moira they have rather fashioned her reluctance to trust men and has left her rather uptight when faced with anything having to do with Mayor Gil. For Gil this has always been a mystery. He thinks of himself as a good friend and in truth would like to be more. But he recognizes that his role in Moira’s life is that of the proverbial thorn in her side. Again not sure why, a feeling shared by all of Moira’s girlfriends and family.
As facts are unveiled, we come to recognize just how impactful past experiences can be. Moira’s life has been altered by these. As a strong independent woman she has mastered the art of being single.
Times they are a changing. There is an election for mayor coming up and Gil finds himself being challenged for the position he loves and is so good at. Moira is thinking of making some rather interesting changes as well. And we are treated to a host of characters whose lives will be following some new and hopefully exciting paths. All thanks to the wonderful creative pen and inciteful writing of Annie Rains.
THE GOOD LUCK CAFÉ is my second foray into the book work of Annie Rains. This story reminds me why she has moved up another notch on my must-read list. Her characters are complicated and flawed, so human and their circumstances are important, relevant, and current.
The Good Luck Cafe is a wonderful return to Somerset Lake and the delightful characters that live there. This is the story of Moira and Gil. It is also the story of hidden secrets, letting go of the past, moving forward, and opening up oneself to love and change. The story was fast-paced, emotional, and heartwarming. I loved it and hope there are more returns to Somerset Lake!
Once again Annie Rains has captured all my attention in her amazing book! I absolutely love Moira and Gil because they are two wonderful people who deserve happiness. This was another emotional rollercoaster of feelings and though I shed some tears I was so happy with the ending to this story and really look forward to her next book!

The Good Luck Cafe is book 4 in the Somerset Lake series by Annie Rains
WoW! This story is so heartwarming, it's her absolute best book ever!
Her books are so realistic, you could see your own friends and neighbors in these situations.
They were so relatable! Well developed and extremely real, facing true to life situations that had me feeling many emotions. I was hooked by the authors writing style and the reality in which she portrayed family and friends. Some things aren't always perfect. Sometimes things get messy, and I appreciated the fact the author didn't shy away from that.
The Good Luck Cafe is a heartwarming, compelling tale that takes you on a journey to Somerset Lake, North Carolina with some pretty fantastic people.
I hope Annie Rains continues this series because I've truly enjoyed them all.
If you're looking a realistic contemporary fiction story..... Pick this up!
This was a very enjoyable read and one that I highly recommend!
