There is nothing cuter than Promposal by RaeChell Garrett! Great representation and well-developed characters throughout.

So I am giving this book a 2.5⭐️

Now, that is not saying it was bad. I just feel as if this has done so many times & as someone who reads a lot, it just wasn’t anything fantastic. The characters seemed way younger than seniors in high school and the way Mekhi and Autumn communicated annoyed me. I will say that I loved the black community representation though.

Promposal is an amazing debut from RaeChell Garrett! I adore YA romances where the characters already have an unresolved conflict at the start of the novel, as it makes for amazing tension, and that is exactly what was delivered with Autumn and Mekhi's relationship. As individual characters, I loved how determined Autumn was to make PROMposal Queen succeed and to get into Mercer. Seeing that drive in a young Black girl was awesome, and I know she'll be a great role model to young readers. The friendship among Jordyn, Reese, and Autumn was also really great to see and I'm so glad that Jordyn and Autumn reconciled by the end of the book.

Additionally, I love how bubbly Mekhi is and how his golden-retriever personality perfectly balanced Autumn's sarcastic nature. He's so fine-tuned to her needs and how she's feeling, and it was adorable watching him quietly fall for her. Their banter and moments where they spent time on FaceTime and each other's houses were so cute! I wish that we got to see a little bit more of Mekhi and Autumn's relationship after prom, but it was still a very sweet ending.

Overall, this was an excellent YA Black romance and I can't wait to read RaeChell's future work! I'd rate this 4.5 stars total.

This story was so fun to read! Promposals are so popular now, half the fun of this book was getting to read the fun ideas they had for each couple. I enjoyed how the story revealed several twists and turns in the plot throughout the book. Once I started reading I didn't want to put it down!

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, thank you for the chance to read Promposal. I enjoyed this book very much. I felt it started a little slow but half way through as more information was given about the two main characters past, it moved smoothly. I wish in high school I knew someone to perform a Promposal.

This book was super cute and very age appropriate for teens! For me it was a little slower read in the beginning, and I found myself annoyed with some of the main characters behavior (but I had to remind myself that this is a young girl, and teenagers can be this way) but the ending more than made up for the beginning. There’s a little enemies to lovers trope, and some miscommunication, in which I could have done without the miscommunication. This was overall a cute teenage rom com, but wasn’t one of my top reads.

This was actually such an adorable read! The romance was fabulous and so well written. It went by a bit slowly at first, but quickly picked up.

Ugh I was so annoyed by a certain decision Autumn makes before the book begins (iykyk) anyway so just wanted to add that RaeChell did a fantastic job really making me feel for the characters. And that last promposal? SO PERFECT

After get waitlisted at the only school she applied to that she thought she would be a shoo in for, high school senior Autumn Reeves is determined to make it off the waitlist and straight into her dream school... but that requires being unique and what’s more unique than making a promposal business, the only glitch? She is forced to work with the one guy who not only broke her heart but broke her friendship with her best friend. Autumn thought she would be accepted at her dream school, and didn’t apply to any other schools... but to her great dismay she is waitlisted. Now more than ever, she is determined to get off the waitlist and get into the school. To pile on top of that stress, her boyfriend has decided to dump her, and the only person to help her with her promposal business is the last person she wants to work with. Autumn and Mekhi Winston have a history, they shared a kiss during freshman year... a kiss that cost her her best friend and ended up with him announcing in front of everyone that kissing her was a mistake and meant nothing. Autumn doesn’t know if she can trust Mekhi, not after everything, but she does need his help if she wants her business to be a success. Now they’ll be forced to spend time together and work out what happened between them freshman year as well as face the feelings they might have and if they can trust one another. This is a story about misunderstandings, complicated relationships, and finding love. Unfortunately this one just didn’t work for me, I found Autumn and Mekhi to be not so great and their entire misunderstandings and relationships was just ugh, but then again I feel like I should give them more leeway since they are teens but my gosh the drama between them and the constant mistrust, hurt feelings, and angst was just not for me. This is great for young adult readers who like stories involving prom and second chance romances, unfortunately for me this one just didn’t work out and I just didn’t like any of the characters all that much but the promposals were cute themselves, otherwise I wasn’t all that invested in the story. Maybe this will be a better read for younger audiences or for someone really interested in teen drama!
