You wouldn't believe the saga unfolding in 'Rebellion's Fire'! So, Christian, this sharp-minded soul, heads back home, tangled up in some unexpected drama alongside Sir William de Lanson. But here's the kicker: she gets snatched up by Adam MacHeth, this mix of warrior and mystic, diving headfirst into Scotland's chaos.

Christian's all about seeking peace in the chaos, while Adam? He's this brooding figure, haunted by visions and fighting for his family's legacy in the midst of battles and loyalties shifting like crazy.

Their connection, seriously, it's like sparks flying amidst all this turmoil. Each of them, secret aspirations and desires, hoping for a world where love and loyalty can win despite the madness of medieval Scotland. It's a wild ride through history! Loved it.

Scottish Historical Romance

This is a story, rich in history. Adam captures Christian, and in the meantime, she captures his heart. However, Christian is married to his enemy, a ruthless man—a man unkind to his wife. There will be battles; alliances will be formed; lives will be lost, and destinies will be changed. There is action, adventure, intrigue, and romance. There is more history than romance in this story, and if you like both, you might enjoy this action-filled tale. One of my favorite parts is Adam’s paranormal visions. Does he see what’s to come, or are they simply possibilities of what could be?

I enjoyed reading the book. There were some moments of confusion as to characters , who they betrothed to and what lands they were from, I made it as far as I could with the action scenes and the entertainment from the characters. The only character that stood out for me to remember is Adam. I’m not for if it’s because he seemed to have more dominance in the story or that his character was more influential.

I enjoyed Rebellion's Fire by Mary Lancaster but I have to admit it took me a while to get into this story. It felt a bit slow in parts throughout the book and while I liked the main characters and their story, there are A LOT of other side characters and while they were integrated into the story well, they pulled me away from the parts I wanted to read about which were focused on Adam and Christian.

Ultimately, this one was just ok for me but I am curious enough to pick up the next book of the series to see where it goes next.

Not really a paranormal, but a story of Adam MacHeth and his waking dreams of the future that have saved the lives of his people, family. More Political than Romantic. This is a hard book for me to review because it dragged with all the Political talk. Plus was confusing at times not only with the storyline, but with people with similar names. The author even explains this at the beginning of the story, still didn't help. Little romantic interaction between the two until later and then it's a rough road.
More on intrigue, some suspense, nasty villains, heavy on political, light on romance, lovemaking outside of marriage. Not one of my favorites. To political and I just couldn't get into and follow.

Thank you #NetGalley for the preview of Rebellions Fire. This was a great book, although the verbiage is a little basic. I enjoyed the story and will definitely search for the series and the rest of the novels. The book definitely left me wanting more.

As a fan of historical romance novels, this one was actually pretty good. I loved the fact that the author gave prior knowledge about some of the history invoked in this novel and gave an explanation about a few character’s names. This helped out a lot.

Ms. Lancaster writes wonderful historical romances with passion, romance, and adventure. This book is the first of her new medieval series, Last Flame of Alba, and I think it is off to a brilliant start. Adam MacHeath's father has been held prisoner for 20 years, simply because of his heritage making him a contender for the throne. The king wants to prevent this, therefore imprisoning him. Adam and his brother have been trying to find a way to get their father released. Adam has a unique ability to see into the future, and for this he is considered as being mad, but it is these visions that have helped him save many people. Christian is married to a knight, who the king has promised land to if he can get rid of the MacHeath's. He wants power so desperately, he will use any means necessary, even his wife, for which he does not have respect for. Christian is tired of being his pawn, and when she is kidnapped by Adam, her life takes a most unexpected turn.
The storyline was interesting and held my interest all the way through. The story had a heavy focus on politics and I would have liked to see a bit more romance. But nonetheless, the intrigue and drama helped the plot progress well. An interesting and unique story, and I look forward to continuing the series.

Step back in time and be pulled into the intrigue, politics and adventure of 1156 Scotland !

A warrior who can see the future, fights to free his father, the King of the Scots for a prison.

She is married to a man who is determined to gain that title, but unfortunately is taken prisoner herself by the warrior!

A journey that has many turns but hopefully the future will hold true love!

This is a unique and complex story that is more political than most romance stories, but what a gem it is.
It is 1156 and the King has made promises to Sir William de Lanson, a landless knight, to have him get ride of the MacHeaths. For Sir William's wife, Christian, she feels she is coming home to the place where she grew up.
Adam MacHeath has waking dreams and must be careful who he touches as sometimes the dreams come very strong and very fast. Adam captures Christian, and holds himselft away from her on his horse, so the dreams stay away. Adam does start thinking Christian would made a great wife for his brother.
I really enjoyed the characters and the story, and highly recommend.

Rebellion’s Fire by Mary Lancaster is different in many ways from Lancaster’s typical offering. It takes place in more ancient times, its plot is definitely more complex than typical, and the ending is different than might be expected from her. It is an exciting book about Adam MacHeth, the son of Malcolm who has been held prisoner by the monarch for 20 years, primarily because he has a heritage that could make him a contender for the throne and the king wants to prevent a rebellion. In that time, his wife and sons have carried on making the earldom successful. Adam has been away for two years fighting with his mother’s brother in his quest for land. Now he is on his way home to assist his brother, Donald, stave off an attack by William Lanson who has been promised the entire earldom of Ross if he can take it. Adam begins by rescuing Lanson’s wife who has been left behind with a small guard. She is the rightful heir to Tirebeck, the castle from which she had left with her mother many years before. She is a beautiful woman who, because of a burn in childhood, wears a cloth over half of her face. She feels no self-worth, insisting that her husband will not barter for her, as he doesn’t care.

This was indeed a complex novel with complex characters: Adam was different. No one denied it. He had a loyal following of brave knights and his family loved him, but he saw things from the future and when he went into one of his trances it was disconcerting. They had faith in him. He was a handsome man, and a fine warrior. Christian was a woman whose husband opening cheated on her with one of her “ladies,” and treated her as a servant. Her only value came in the tenuous thread she had to Tirebeck and now that he had it, he had no need of her. Adam saw something in her and subtly pursued her even as she was married. She was a terrific character who carried a strained past with her starting with leaving Tireback and running to the present. She had never known what happiness was and threw herself into being the lady of Tirebeck, ignoring everything else. This plot was complicated and yet so simple. Her husband, William, deserved to die and put himself into the position where it was inescapable. It was a terrific book with plenty of twists and turns into the happily-ever-after. I recommend it.

What a marvelous story and so well written.
Christian is married to a norman warrior who ignores her and has made a mistress of one of her ladies in waiting. Adam, a highland Seer, is the son of Malcolm, imprisoned by the King. Adam and his family also have a claim to the scottish throne. It's set in medieval times and I loved the detail and the slow romance between our couple.

I shall look for the rest of the series and meanwhile look up wikipedia to find out more about the life and times.

Hearily recommend so vivid

1156 & Malcolm MacHeth, one time Earl of Ross, languishes a prisoner in Roxburgh Castle while his rampaging sons raise rebellion in his name. Optimistically, the King of Scots promises the earldom of Ross to landless Norman knight, Sir William de Lanson, if he can somehow defeat the infamous MacHeths. It wasn’t quite how William’s disgraced wife Christian dreamed of coming home. Capture by the strange and ferocious Adam MacHeth was hardly part of her plan either, although she and William quickly become pawns in his. Adam, warrior and seer, fights for his father’s freedom and for his family’s right to claim the kingdom of the Scots.
The first in a new series & a departure from the authors usual genre of Regency / Victorian romances. I thoroughly enjoyed this well written fast paced book, I thought the characters were well portrayed & had depth, I really liked Adam & Christian, he’s tormented by his ‘dreams’ & she’s strong after being disfigured by a fire when she was a child, I liked the chemistry between them. There’s intrigue, secrets, revelations & I loved the mix of fact & fiction. I look forward to the rest of the series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Christian de Lanson is married to a knight who hires mercenaries to aid in his fight for power. She is a pawn he is willing to use, but has no respect for. Complex connections to overthrow a king.

Politics, Family, Skirmishes Galore:
A very unique story and a large cast of characters that was a bit of a challenge to keep track of them all, but as the story progresses, they will keep you engrossed.
Adam a gifted warrior with fae skills as a seer and Christian a scared young lady both physically and emotionally.
The story is complex and quite involved in family, clan politics, feuds, battles, cruelty, intense captures, rescues, some heartfelt moments between Adam and Christian as we follow them into a
desirous love story.
A hearty story worth reading.

⭐️⭐️⭐️
I adored Mary Lancaster’s Regency and Victorian-era books and was delighted to read a medieval-era book from her. I am conflicted about this book. The plot is exciting and moves quickly. The characters are vivid and intriguing. Two things held this book back for me. There are multiple points of view throughout the book, which I found distracting. Also, the book is more action than romance. I would have liked more time with Adam and Christian; this is a personal preference. I felt the romantic side of the book needed more development.

Overall I found the book enjoyable; the story grew more intense in the second half. Adam is wild and enigmatic; he has a dangerous edge that is appealing. Christian is strong, independent, and doesn’t back down from Adam. There is an undeniable pull between the couple.

Rebellion’s Fire is the first book in the Last Flame Of Alba series. I loved the blending of historical fact and fiction. Overall there was room for improvement; however, I felt Rebellion’s Fire did an excellent job of being an exciting and vivid read.

Adam MacHeth is a warrior with an extraordinary gift. He and his brother have been trying to find a way to get their father released from the custody of the King of Scotland. Our hero's gift makes people think he's mad and maybe he is a little. Will it help or hinder him on this latest task.

Christian has persuaded her husband to take her and claim the land that she inherited. The King of Scotland is happy to have one of his most capable supporters claim land in a disputed region.

This historical romance has exceptional characters, political intrigue and fierce battles. Our heroine is a lot stronger than she thought. I loved our tormented hero.

This is the first in a series and I definitely want to read the next ones. Lots of the secondary characters in this book are promising leads for more stories.

Great fun.

I love how Mary Lancaster can weave a tale that makes us imagine ourselves right in the middle of the story. The romance, the political intrigue, the characters, it all comes together so perfectly.

People always call Adam "simple" or "strange" because of his being able to see into the future, his "waking dreams", but all he really cares about is trying to gain his father's freedom. He actually has a brilliant mind and is a true warrior. Christian is tired of having men make all the decisions in her life and she's bound and determined to change things. Then she is kidnapped by Adam and her life takes on an unexpected turn. Disfigured in a fire when she was just a child, Christian is finally getting answers to what had actually happened. Very interesting storyline!!
